WARNING: This track might upset you, and I wanted it to be unsettling for a reason. We spend so much time remembering 9/11 and worrying about foreign attacks, when storms are brewing within our borders. I sat down and began playing this melody at a grand piano one day. It kept haunting me so I played it until I had it, making a few changes. Then, the song started as a voice memo (mono track) with that melody matched with freestyled vocals both on/in one take. I waited a few years, not knowing where it would fit and began exploring production and recording.

It was a time of disconnection in my life (especially as a live music-lover), but I knew the recording showed promise and I could use it some time. My experience growing up in a pentecostal church of the South with family relations to ministers has brought me many relizations later in life. I (personally) did not see god’s love in the intentions of these churches. I’ve watched as church sermons became less about uplifting the people and community, and more about beating the very sheep they claim to lead to salvation; letting politics and manipulation take front & center in every speech. Anyone can be radicalized, especially with what I have seen in the Bible Belt (camp meetings/“revivals”) Although I’m sure there are positive organizations out there, the sensationalism and weaponization of organized religion has become more than corrupt. I respect all organizations bred from love and compassion for their community. May those with good will succeed and not be led astray by the false idols they claim to know. May future pastors be adept enough to talk about hard topics of our times in ways that will conceal their political opinion. May we all reach an understanding that for the time being, WE are stuck on this rock together. Lets keep that Rock pretty. 💅🏼
