The OPM vinyl series returns after almost six months as Dr Dubplate continues to showcase talented producers handpicked from the new wave pool of undiscovered.

This time around, FTRRLT (Future Reality) throws it down, flying in his dubs direct to Bristol all the way from the Crimean Peninsula, for the ROW.

OPM003 comes in the form of another impressive 5 tracker, including a remix from an OG UK Breakbeat Don.

Served up on the A side is the title track ‘Gonna Get You’. Nostalgic sampling for the old school garage heads on this one, whilst the 90’s RnB babies will for sure be ‘One-Two Step’-ing to the A2 - cleverly balanced UKG bubblers.

On the flip FTRRLT rounds-off the UK Garage with a breaks tinged ‘Funeral Bill’, before firing straight out the stalls into 160 with ‘The Going Is Rough’, a staple Jungle riddim you’ should come to expect on ec2a. Benton then tears this a new one with his signature suspense-ridden, breakdown into big breaks and percussion on the B3. Bassline heavy and ready to body…

Welcoming Arfa to the Time Is Now family with his debut EP: a tight 5-tracker which sees the emerging producer come into his powers with a fiercely forward-facing take on dark garage, featuring a raucous remix from London’s Bakey.
 
Real Badman EP starts as it means to go on. ‘Run It Back’ is driven by a fractured syncopated rhythm and a heavy warped bassline which lends it its tune, fusing together the stylistic elements of dark garage and speed garage to offer a fresh take on both genres. Clattering rimshots and a womping bassline compliment ‘For The Mandem’’s luscious pads before being carried onto ‘Ain’t Ready’ which adds a tight two-step rhythm and the chopped-up vocals of an old skool garage MC. Finally, ‘Real Badman’ sees the EP at its most playful. Staccato piano chords infuse it with an uplifting melody before Time Is Now family member Bakey steps in to deliver his take: a half-time rendition which strips back the higher ends to make way for a focus on the subs. A real stomper.

None of the terms used for this kind of stuff really stuck, did they? Bass music, future garage, uhhhh "post-dubstep" - they don't really cut it. But here it is, exquisitely-constructed music that has a little bit of the electro-IDM finesse of an  Objekt , a little bit of vintage 2-step swing, a little bit of  Livity Sound -ish gritty soundystem techno, and a whole lot of dubwise echoes of FWD>>. This is coming on the  Wisdom Teeth  label that K-Lone runs with Facta, on a split 12" with  Keysound  alumnus Etch, and it's a proper tasty little bassbin-tester.
