Mechatok — 12 Years ('All my Time' P!?031)

⁉️ In his uncompromising debut, Regular Citizen hums the tunes of his daily mood storms with 12 minimalistic electronic compositions. Ordinary life is nothing but a curtain of dreams, a display of emotions and circumstances made unique by his sensitivity. 

⁉️ Grown up on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, in the russian port city of Nakhodka, east of Vladivostok, Ivan Olegovich aka Regular Citizen has been describing his life through music since his early childhood, when his father bought him an old piano. His unique sensitivity has been refined through his youth - playing drums in punk bands and city parades, working as a DJ and studio engineer at the local Radio. Now in his early 30s, his attitude toward composition is an exercise of concentration, or as he describes: “a movement towars a inner target.” 

⁉️ We are proud to present Regular Citizen unique impressionist attitude on Presto!? as the fourth release of our tenth year of life, celebrated with events and releases under the “Ten Years of Tomorrow” motto.

« DENTSU2060 begins with the re-summoning of Tsuruta Kinshi, the satsuma-biwa player chosen by Toru Takemitsu for his rendition of “November Steps” - a hyper-corporate and hyper-intimate illuminated ensemble piece. SATOSHI NAKAMOTO is a documentary for the Shenzhen region, inspired by J.G. Ballard's "Crash", Satoshi Nakamoto's potential visage, and the voice of the polygonal dragon in the 1993 movie "Arcade". A speediness akin to merikari or digital payment infrastructure's high-octane overload. WINDOW OF HONEYTRAP belongs to the modern tinder concréte continuum. Chase the rainbowbridge is inspired by Initial D, created through the prophet VS’ vector synthesis, and its therefore intended for drives on the Tokyo bayside. I ALWAYS STILL YAKUZA is a luxury field recording captured on floor 52 of the Park Hyatt Shinjuku. The ambience of the Lost in Translation bar scene, scented with reverb…»


Tasho Ishi is a sound designer, image consultant, and advertisement critic currently working for a major record label in Tokyo. He debuted as BRF in 2016 with “BRF-KU” EP and he is active under the same moniker in the Japanese fashion market as a runway music curator. We are proud to present Dentsu2060, his LP debut, as the fifth release under our “Ten Years of Tomorrow” motto. 

In a city where advertising plays the leading role, how long can a style resonate? Dentsu2060 is an intricate work, a true to life representation of the city in its drifting vanity. By weaving seamlessly field recordings and melodic light points, Tasho composes an unexpected reflection to the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic ceremony or the illuminated soundtrack of a trendy drama. His 9 compositions channel the voice of his city, offering a new, spectacular world view - overexposed under the artificial lights.

12H is a two hours long summa of the very best material produced for the eponymous sound installation, specifically designed by Donato for the Music Bridge - Armando Trovajoli in Rome under the curation of MAXXI Director Bartolomeo Pietromarchi. The original piece translated in music the architecture of the bridge and its surrounding life, layering samples and field recordings in the language Donato knows best: the repetition, rhythm and harmony of different building blocks. The work was originally reproduced by 12 speakers spread along the bridge colonnade, escorting the visitor through different musical places in their crossing. It now takes its final stereo form in this continuous mix version: a dense, enthralling flow akin to Tiber’s murky waters. The original installation was set up by sound engineer Giuseppe Tillieci / Neel, a frequent collaborator of Dozzy in the “Voices from the Lake” project, with Funktion One support.


« Similar to a whale skeleton beached on Tiber’s banks, the Music Bridge connects two parts of the city that had been ignoring one another for centuries. On one side the slopes of Mount Mario dominate the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) sports fields where many masterpieces of Italian modernist architecture were built: Moretti’s Fencing Academy, the Youth Hostel, the Olympic Pool and later on the Tennis Stadium and the Stadio Olimpico. On the other side there is Quartiere Flaminio, with its theatre, contemporary art museum MAXXI and Renzo Piano auditorium. Donato Dozzy has converged sport and music in his sound installation for the Music Bridge, recounting the story of the two universes connected there. The work, originally presented in a 12 hours format, was a day-long journey through environmental sounds and Donato’s own melodies. In the new-found synthesis we present today we experience once again time and Tiber flowing together, from the crack of dawn until nightfall artificial lights. »

Few DJs and producers are as widely and universally acclaimed in techno circles as Italian Donato Dozzy. He has a rare ability to work his way into peoples’ minds in both contemporary and classical settings, conjuring real mood and atmosphere. Never one to pay heed to the zeitgeist, he prefers to deal in hypnotic soundscapes that really take you on a trip.


Enigmatic as he is, and laidback as he seems, as an artist he is constantly unveiling new work. Displaying a large variation in terms of sound and method across many new releases each year — some of which come on his co-owned label Spazio Disponibile — he also puts out installations for public spaces and museums, uses obscure musical instruments, collaborates with likeminded producers, classical singers or visual artists. Donato seems to continuously challenge himself on a creative level: whatever method he uses, though, he is always likely to permeate your cerebral cortex and rewire it in fascinating and compelling new ways.

« In memoriam Ivan Tcherepnin.
Beneath the level of the note lies the realm of microsound, of sound particles. Each particle is a pinpoint of sound. Like the quantum world of the quarks, leptons, hadrons, gluons, and bosons, the microsonic domain remained invisible for centuries. Recent advances let us probe and manipulate the microacoustical world. Sound particles dissolve the rigid bricks of musical composition–the notes and their intervals–into more fluid and supple materials. The sensations of point, pulse (series of points), line (tone), and surface (texture) emerge as the density of particles increases. Sparse emissions produce rhythmic figures. By lining up the particles in rapid succession, one can induce an illusion of tone continuity or pitch. As the particles meander, they flow into streams and rivulets. Dense agglomerations of particles form clouds of sound whose shapes evolve over time. Half-life, composed in 1998 and 1999, explores the birth, replication, mutation, and decay of sound particles. The composition is the fruit of a long period of study and experimentation with microsound. The work is divided into two sections: Sonal atoms and Granules. The first version was premiered in May 1998 in the large hall of the Australian National Academy of Music, Melbourne, with sound projection over 28 loudspeakers. »

P!?028 is the reissue of the seminal Point Line Cloud album by Curtis Roads, 15 years after its original publication on Asphodel. Each piece here revels in the microscopic level of sound that Roads discusses in his book Microsound. He devises rich textures by exploring relationships between tiny sonic shards, juxtaposed, layered and manipulated on the minutest of timescales. If this all sounds terse and scientific, you're right, and wrong, as Roads is equally competent in the theoretical and artistic domains. Often cited by Autechre as an influence on their work, his music doesn't share the grid-oriented rhythmic approach of his more widely known admirers. It does, however, have a level of sophisticated immediacy and dynamism seldom heard in the realm of abstract electronic music. Each track breathes with the vitality of the most assured improvising percussionist. While bound to esoteric processes, "Point Line Cloud" is amongst the most vibrant and sensuous accomplishments of the post-musique concrète canon.
