Elevator Jazz [FULL TAPE]

Latvian beatmaker PRGMAT demonstrates to a wider audience his debut record, compilation of instrumental compositions “RIGAMENTALS: TEST PRESSING CHAPTER ONE”.

Beattape has made in classic urban hiphop sounding manner, with a emphasis on thick, hard-hitting, sub bass fulled and neck breaking drums. In beattape repeatedly can hear the author deliberately worsened the audio track quality, creating a dirty, low frequency and vinyl crackle accompanying sound. 

“RIGAMENTALS” feds listener with a 31 atmospheric, sample based loop and drum overdose composition, created in few recent months, at his hometown Riga. Tape, stuffed with hiphop and soul music essences, will lead a soulful walk through the 90’s Brooklyn neighborhoods, Avotu street in Riga, abandoned islands, dirty basements, Shaolin temples and vinyl thrift shops.

Incognito dreams into analog synthesizers, muddy drums and Shaolin Kungfu flicks. 

Beattape, stuffed with dirty chops and loops is overdosed with obscure tape recorder effects in the best traditions of lo-fi hiphop. 

“TAPE IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF” is dedication to @steezyasfuck for opening the gates for me to the world of lo-fi hip hop music. Love, what he multiplies, is something phenomenal. Much love.

“Life choices” - it's the choice between dreamy mornings and thoughtful, sleepless nights. The choice between being sober and being drunk as f***. The choice between rocking the 80’s dance floor and taking a nap in a tent, in the middle of the woods. It’s the choice between settling in past memories and living today. Tape is a muddy potion containing lofi hiphop, vaporwave, future funk, classic boombap hiphop and disco ingredients. PRG's diagnose is sentiment, nostalgia and reminiscence. This one hour of music is all about that.

Soul, funk, jazz, disco, golden era hiphop may seem like a stylistic jump, but PRGMAT has absorbed his influences so completely and has attained such control of his sound, that he makes such eclecticism seem completely natural.

This instrumental album in many ways predates it’s flava of nostalgia primarily unified sonically via crispy and raw drums, soul and jazz samples with an ear for it’s own birth.

To quote Baudrillard: “When the real no longer is what it used to be, nostalgia assumes it’s full meaning.”
