Module Exchange - students' music

A pair of grandiose double doors marked the entrance to the house; they towered far overhead, seeming almost menacing in their presence. This wasn't how she'd remembered this place, it all seemed completely alien to the building she knew as a child; it no longer felt welcoming, it no longer belonged in her memories. She toyed with the idea of ringing the bell, of seeing who now called this place home, but something stopped her, she wasn't sure she really wanted to know. 

More Cowbell has been running since 2019 as a space for "all things percussive and bassy". Operated by DJ and producer Eich, and comprised of a club night, online community and record label, the platform is dedicated to exploring the plethora of UK bass and techno sounds coming out of the UK.

After making her production debut on Dublin-based label Woozy's VA compilation at the end of summer, Eich is now sharing her first solo release, Red. It's a rhythmic trip through the music that influences her, touching on dark UK techno and stripped back Chicago house, inevitably permeated with low end frequencies and tight drum patterns.

2lanes(@2Lanes), based out of Detroit, provides a DJ-ready remix of Nelic Spore for the Unknown Mobile's (@unknown-mobile) Aurora Remixed. 

Infusing the opening track of the album with smoked-out beats and unfiltered bass. A driving and grooving track sure to be heard in late-night twisted and wicked DJ sets. 

Aurora Remixed comes out May 4th on Quern Records, 2Lanes remix is also featured on a limited edition lathe-cut 12" alongside Khotin's remix.

Unknown Mobile - Nelic Spore (2Lanes Remix)

Vancouver-based artist Destrata chalks up his first solo release for Of Paradise with Counterweight, a multi-layered, richly-textured and often hyper-real journey through new school club music. Placing the critical elements of UK-flavoured bass and breaks under the microscope, Destrata’s scientific approach to production sees him examine everything in minute detail, disassembling and reassembling every aspect of a track until a structurally perfect composition emerges. 

Featuring four highly immersive cuts, Counterweight showcases a flux of atmospheric inspirations, displaying Destrata’s enthusiasm for more ethereal and fractal sounds built to ooze through back rooms, safeguarding the listener with a weighty lushness.

Hailing from Paris, DJ and producer Saltimbanq draws inspiration from a captivating blend of enigmatic indie dance with subtle post-punk undertones, dark disco infused with acid sounds, and new wave. 

Despite being classically trained in music from a young age, he really had his musical epiphanic moment while discovering the sparking starkness of Joy Division and the ethereal sound of Alan Parsons Project. A musical heritage inspires him, be it behind the decks or into the studio, to craft emotionally charged soundscapes underpinned by powerful beats and engaged basslines. His first release, “Tenderness Cliffhanger”, is, with that regard, a manifesto attempt, building up a slow melodic progression filled with and fueled by strong emotional intent where fairy synths and heavy basslines seem to engage in a fierce fight.

Recording of my experimental sound performance at the vernissage of the "Don't Forget Me" exhibition at Perspective Galerie in Paris.

In this live performance, I attempted to explore the mechanisms our brain uses to process our memories, such as distortion, echoes, and even the blurring of undesirable memories, in the context of sound.
