Nicolas Barnes - Dub Techno TV Podcast Series #50

Welcome to another episode of Volume Radio, where Octal Industries joins the studio via phone from his home in Estonia.

OCTAL INDUSTRIES:
Octal Industries is the solo project of Jónas Thor Gudmundsson. The project was originally founded in 2003 by Jonas and Mike Sickinger, the founder of the Octal label. The debut release of their collaboration was the Automatik EP on the Transistor Rhythm output. Couple of years later they joined their friend Deep Chord for a shared 12“ release, which today is a quite a valuable gem for dub techno lovers. The three of them joined hands together later that year to create a 3x12“ release undir the pseudonym Spectral Network. The release was quite limited (111 copies) and was considered one of the most interesting 12“ releases that year by many critics. 
After the release of the Spectral Network eps the duo went for hiatus as other projects took over, also as opportunity for musical collaborations became harder as the Atlantic Ocean divides them. Jonas continued working on other projects as Ruxpin – producing numerous releases along the way. 
In 2011 the duo was asked by the French independent label Entropy Records to do some releases. As Michael was unable to participate, Jonas went on solo and worked on a full-length release, which later became Meeting of the Waves LP. Another remix followed for G.R.I.T. which was hailed by dubtechnoblog.com as the best remix of the year 2012.   
In more recent years, Octal Industries has been working on numerous collaborations with artists such as fellow Icelander OHM - and fruits of their work has been released on labels such as Thule Records, Rawax, Luck of Access, All In Records and many more. 
Octal Industries also released works independently in 2019 an EP entitled Julia Sets on Kontakt Records, which featured a remix from the Detroit legend Mike Huckaby – and his second full-length album Our Seasons, which was released on Vertex in December 2019. 
Octal Industries, although being Icelandic in origin, works and resides in Tallinn, Estonia.

Retouched born in Madrid in 1981 began to mix records over the years 1999-2000, usually techno and detroit techno, in 2007 begins to produce his own music and nuances his style towards the dubtechno. He is currently the owner of Kopoc Label which he has been directing for 5 years with almost 50 releases and a section of podcasts. A little trip down memory lane with our very good friend Silver Ash.  Thanks for letting us host this mix we are really enjoying it.

Remastered after 17 years, bigger, fatter and warmer! Classic records that never age from a time of pure tech pleasure.

A little Message form the man himself:

1hr 13min of mix, recorded around 2000 or 2001 I think. This is the last time I recorded a mix from a pair of turntables using the records I was into at the time (and to a large extent I still am).

Recorded using 2 x Vestax PDX-D3 turntables, a vestax mixer, a borrowed Korg Kaos pad and a crappy Zoom guitar pedal onto a minidisc.

A little while after I recorded this I got on the Serato bandwagon at which point I decided to completely give up mixing.
