Herman Prime’s debut 12”, “Maajo” is a beautiful ode to spring and new birth. "Maajo" pays homage to Nigerian music, with its borrowed vocals from juju style’s King “Sunny” Ade. The track has a house foundation, which shows in its fat kick drums and sub bass groove, while the hypnotic Rhodes melody harkens to early minimal electronic pioneers such as Manuel Göttsching.

The B-side, “Maajo (Take Four)”, is a track of its own, a mutant revision of the emotional original. This version is not just a slightly altered copy but an electronic dub that takes the original to a completely different direction. Talking drums and a polyrhythm structure maintain the dreamy, Nigerian feel, but the dystopic, detuned synths have the scent of an underground techno bunker.

Jon Thureson, alias Herman Prime, has been open-mindedly DJing and producing music for 15 years. He has a broad understanding of musical language which helps him to infuse his various influences. With his strong background in house and disco, Jon often reaches beyond the limits of both genres towards new frontiers. His love affair with West African styles and electronic Krautrock shows on “Maajo”.

Seagull Records is a spin-off from disco rework factory Kojak Giant Sounds and “Maajo” is a slightly moodier and housier departure from the labels usual repertoire.

"Drug" is the first single off Sweatshop's debut EP "The Getaway", which comes out November 7th 2011. The forthcoming musicvideo for the song will be directed by Manyar Parwani from Zentropa Film.

Sweatshop was formed in 2007 in a studio in Copenhagen. The 3 members Daniel, Kuku and Jonas had already been making music together in different constellations for many years. Both Kuku and Jonas had solo albums under their belts, and Daniel had been producing for both of them. A need emerged for all 3 to have a free creative space - a playground - where ideas could become songs in a heartbeat, without having to please any certain standard but their own. With only one purpose: To challenge and inspire each other. On average 1 day was spent on each song. Writing, producing, recording. After a couple of months the songs added up to a full album, which was later mixed and named "The Hustle". The kids are still working hard, sweating in the shop, new bread is in the oven, and the magic recipe has become even tastier! 
The brand new EP ”The Getaway” is a step in a slightly different direction, blending more reggae and roots flavours into the mix. With songs that are catchier than ever and with obvious radio potential, Sweatshop are going all in! With a release in the fall of 2011, Sweatshop are laying the foundation to make 2012 their year.

Most of the DJ world doesn't know who Guillaume Teyssier is. You're missing out. But that's ok, we're gonna help you here with 2 magnificient remixes of Teyssier's music. One is by Tigersushi's long time collaborators Principles Of Geometry. They go deep, like very deep, diving underwater with this shimmering remix of a very well known French pop hit from the 80s that Guillaume covered on his album. The other one is from a newcomer from Australia. Murray Lake runs a beautiful studio there and you can hear that in the lush production of this long epic Space take on Vortex Disco. A perfect set opener.

A collaborative project between Rub'n'Tug's Thomas Bullock (who also
records as Bobby Marie and Map of Africa for WWW) and Eddie Ruscha (who
spent time in Medicine, Maids of Gravity and Future Pigeon). "The Rose"
is simply one of the most splendid tracks of the summer. Opening with a
mélange of bells and infinitely sustained piano chords that might be
out of a Pharaoh Sanders early '70s jazz effort, and adding on a guitar
lick that percolates like Mr. Coffee, it only takes off from there.
Once Ruscha's voice comes in talking about "electric shadow, a full
moon in my bed," the song elevates somewhere between spiritual jazz, a
bananas disco dance floor cut and the Alan Parsons Project. The piano
stutters, the bass slides down and then the whole thing bursts forth
anew with ping-ponging squelches and other sorts of analog orgasmic
madness,making for one of the most satisfying 12-inches of the year.

Jamie Lloyd follows up his last12 inch Adori’s Kitchen with an EP of low-slung disco grooves, vocal cutups and great songwriting showing another side of this talented Australian artist. New York’s Brennan Green opens proceedings with his Movin’ Out remix, a tasty 8 minute slab of disco space funk with slippery squelching lead synth runs and cheeky breakdowns throughout. Jamie’s original continues in the 107bpm disco electric vibe with nice sounds and a cool sense of space. Flip for Zooptron, a quirky, chopped up party tune in the spirit of Jamie Lidell and All The Honey, a spaced out minimal disco gem in a Metro Area or Kelley Polar vibe.
