Perfectionist and putting an accent on ambient and experimental techno, his work mixes various elements, just like when using different techniques & colors with varying components & textures in his visual artworks. His unique sound evokes electricity on earth, environmental sounds as well as is taking an inspiration into animism — and overall — Doltz deeply intricates the beauty of Technology with Imagination.

Dear all, 36th Installment comes in the person of Adelia :-) 

Coming from Prague (Czech Republic) and currently based in Barcelona, the young woman defines herself as a 'space traveler'. She hosted her own events serie at the Cross Club in her home town, as well as she played in Hungary and Slovakia. Adelia delivers a mental, hypnotic techno and finds inspiration mostly into Nature. Gazing at sunsets, admiring the depht of the sea or the power of mountains - or In a more day-to-day set up, through connecting with street atmospheres and people.

PRIOR ACT #036  — Adelia

After an uptempo Techno vinyl set last month, July goes towards the other end of the spectrum, giving space to a more mellow, summerish, chill journey with Martyn Päsch. 

The producer/DJ (Mexico) oscillates between ambient, deep house/microhouse influences & deep techno. He's also the owner/founder of his imprint KLVTÖ:
"Martyn Päsch continues to rise in the scene of Electronic Music. In his work as a producer we can find a range of styles varying from classical to minimal and abstract sounds of Techno. He's moving in sub genres of Deep Techno such as ambient, dubby sounds & experimental, which gives him a vast musical spectrum, freshness and versatility. In the beginning of 2018 he started his record label, KVLTÖ RECORDS, focused on Ambient, experimental, drone & DeepTechno sounds. Since this moment he's working ambitiously on various projects and collabs in which Martyn Päsch not only seeks for musical diversity, but aims to give the audience food for thought and dreams."

PRIOR ACT #038  — Martyn Päsch [KLVTÖ]

Stoke to present you last contributor of 2021 in the person of Adhémar: the french artist/producer/Dj gifts us with a set oscillating between liquidish sound distortions & poetic brush strokes, including various unreleased material of his own. The tight percussions, the reverbing drums leave space in between rythms to sober, near meditative atmospheres. Please welcome him w. this typical beautiful ambient journey of his, which evokes a painting of a walk into a forest, and a touch of mystery. Thank you so much Adhémar! <3 

"Adhémar is a multi-disciplinary artist, establishing his universe through music and visual works. Constantly in search of a luminous quality of sound, in a world both of Shadows & Light, his music is closely linked to his plastic work.
This obsession w. shadows leads him to think and create spaces and atmospheres focusing on the lightness and poetry of light. The power of narrative in music allows him to confront more psychological and philosophical aspects, with a focus on what is 'Alive, what surrounds us' (whether material or immaterial world, i.e the fact everything is constantly 'becoming'). With a particular rigour for transitions, whether in his own productions or DJsets, his universe is built little by little, with the passing of sound transformations, as well as the light and poetic transportation of it all.

In the recent years alongside his releases (Oslated, Huinali Recordings, Lett Records, Aarden Records, Secuencias Temporales, Diffuse Reality...) Adhémar created « Aucuba Replica »  together with Olorun:
The botanical genus Aucuba includes species of shrubs native to Central Asia or Japan. The premise is that plants can be multiplied and reborn almost identically yet each individual remains unique. This idea of multiplication and artificial landscape defines Aucuba Replica, as an emanation of both the individual practice of the Duo, by collecting sounds that combine organic and artificial elements, bringing out the possibility to perceive landscape as an audible geography."

Some of you might already know the producer/Dj Arkaean's (based in south England) work: after a noticed release on Silent Season end of 2019, he played the Lāsya Festival (curated by Klara, summer 2021). The young talent paused to travel, which gave him opportunity to wander various festivals. Back from his adventures he delivers a set punctuated w. transcending sounds, ambient/down tempo tribal beats, haunting bass lines & colorful, organic pads as well as trancier accents. Thank you so much Billy for this soulful, immersive & entrancing journey. <3

"Arkaean seeks to induce a primal trance state through the use of modern instruments and technologies — a form of hi-tek sonic archaeology, in quest for ancient insight.

In the juxtaposition of organic recordings with purely synthetic processes, new environments are revealed, alien yet familiar. A vision of primordial life bubbling away in a parallel universe, or the chatter of chimeric critters on a distant Earth-like planet.

PRIOR ACT #042  — Arkaean

More than pleased to welcome producer/Dj & artist Minjoon, based in Korea. Minjoon displays a mix between deep, subterranean, pretty dark sound at times  traversed by more luminous strokes. This gives his audience the feeling of being pulled into a dark tale with sonic doors opening on rooms filled up with sun. This contrast transpires more in his sets whereas his techno prods have a more direct approach. It's this tension created by seemingly opposed ideas/concepts (familiar Versus Unfamiliar and in his own words, ambiguity of colors when it comes to visual work) that form his current signature, aside from a strong interest for primitive sounds. 

"To me, the word 'primitive techno' is based on the primitive senses of humans. Literally, rythms that can be found in folk cultures, such as traditional korean instruments, Mongolian traditional 'Humei' sound, or ancient Nordic chants. It englobes both the magical and dark sensibilities inherent to 'modern electronic techno' ". 

Minjoon also works as a designer/artist & podcast curator for Artscope. After releasing on Charybdis, KVLTÖ, Artscope (...) he keeps exploring and developing his vision. Thank you Minjoon for your dedicated work <3 We wish you all a nice trip :-)

"Since 2017, Minjoon has been fascinated by the joining of his painting awareness and primitive techno. His theme is to find an ambiguous balance based on the extreme paradoxes of 'Unfamiliar familiar. Ambiguous colors are not a visual sense, but appeal to another sense of energy.

PRIOR ACT #046  — Doctrina Natura

Very pleased to introduce you to our next guest:
Morpha is a musical project founded in 2019 by ambient techno producer and DJ Alexander Slonovsky, currently based in St. Petersburg. Since the start of the project, Morpha has released on various labels such as KVLTÖ, Secuencias Temporales, Profundo Collective (...). 
Other than the aforedmentioned, the producer/Dj is resident of the Sacred Sound community as well as a co-founder and member of the Ephemeral community, which promotes immersive sound in Russia through audio and video podcasts.

"Morpha is not an urban environment. It is organic, a symbiosis of man and nature translated with deep blue, turquoise and green emerald colors. A project inspired by the idea of life". Just like a refreshing, immersive july sound bath... Morpha offers us a set that ebbs and flows. :)

PRIOR ACT #047  — Morpha

Very pleased to welcome the young, promising italian talent: Biocym. 

Currently based in Milan, the  producer/DJ is pushing his sound & style on various fronts thru releases on the beautiful Agos imprint (previously appearing on Circular Limited, Aarden Records, Secuencias Temporales..) and sets (Amulador, Porto)with an inspired, edgy-cutting vision.

This set is traversed by electronic-ambientish, -hypnotic, -dubby synth leads and pads — Elements all sustained by flashing, entrancing bass & rythms, as well as darkier influences. Cinematic in portions, smartly built with warmth, energetic and harmonious sounds, Biocym uses his technique to drive us into mellow, dancing states — yet leaves sonic spaces that leads us astray.. to a more intimate, darkier corner of a late night club vibe towards end of session. Somewhere between a summer mountain/forest festival & a City morning afterparty: Biocym's strength probably resides there, in that specific contrast, leaving his listeners "not quite sure of what just happened" (ofc subtly calculated by its author), yet wanting more. :-)

And just like that.. Another festival season is gone. As a closing-greeting & to celebrate Prior Act’s Nr 50, we’re happy to bring an exclusive set recording:

Alex Tomb isn't just an over-20years-practicing Dj/(Later on, producer, on Several Reasons & Capparis Spinosa - his own label - amongst others) and a techno figure in his homeland (Cyprus): he's been keeping on pushing to generate quality and  enthusiasm around techno music since his returning. As such he naturally took part to the quite recent Emotions festival, located in the "Angel’s Hills Resort" in Nicosia; a gathering of both local & International ambitions, that has reunited names such as Dasha Rush, Amandra, F-On.. as well as emerging artists.

Thankful & super pleased to get this opportunity focusing/shedding light on his work (the excerpt isn't to find anywhere else and was recorded last June). Alex not only shows us there's other horizons beyond Berlin and his various  [past] residencies @[Griessmüehle/KLUBD/] STAUB (<-- still active), but his unextinguished passion for the craft. This >>Techno<< set excerpt ranges from minimal influences, techno with powerful beats, to more subtle, soulful, psy playfulness - as well as melodic bits, where spontaneity and honoring detroit/housey vibes has its spot. ▶ Noah Lyas is a producer/Dj, ceramist/artist based in The NL: 
Malii Yorks' alias serves his electronic music creations and explorations. His influences were forged by swinging ska, dub reggae and dusty soul, the music he grew up with and where he finds his inspiration. Aside of his taste for groove that transpires in his sets, you'll feel a clear leaning towards textured tracks. Noah is also the Co-founder of Amsterdam based record label "Profundo Collective" (on which Eafhm, Morpha and Doctrina Natura have collaborated, amongst others). He delivers a set embodying a gritty, yet atmospheric techno where drums and percussion are the perfect frame to drift you away, through a selection of some classics, recent findings and some of his own productions. It’s with utmost pleasure we’re buckling up 2022 and shooting straight into 2023 with a powerful, atmospheric set thanks to Alexskyspirit’s contribution. Please make a due welcome to the greek (borned/raised in Patras) producer/Dj, also co-owner of the young @Khoros-label.

Alexskyspirit delivers a mix built on deep/dark bits together with newer tracks as well as exclusive, unreleased material. The result is ...moody AF, oscillating between a well-known dark-building-block (LN or Berlin-like), as much it kicks you into the midst of a white, powdery snowy mountainscape under starry Nightskies. It's the contrast, the thumping-red-thread (sometimes almost gloomy) that reveals Alexskyspirit's peculiarity. The journey embarks us in memories of both sweaty crowds, strobes and hypnotic states, somewhere between reality and dreams. Respites are given to calm the mind before kicks & basslines bring you right back in line. Cinematographic, ravey, a sense of mystery mixed are all in favor of a cathartic trip. Otherwise known as Hypnotic Black Magic, Apolline Guédon got well inspired when leaving her home (FR) to pursue her passion for Arts & Techno music. In a few years span, she's become a known, regular figure of Berlin' scene, as the creator & curator of the Art Bei Ton events serie, as well as for 'Ambient Sleepers'. 

Energetic, prolific, delivering driving and carefully crafted selections, Hypnotic Black Magic is also socially engaged to break down gender tiny boxes. Her music is deep, dark but with sensual accents. Her insatiable curiosity also shows as a traveller : HBM has played a large numbers of venues; in Berlin, Tokyo, Portugal, Seoul, Colombia.. and many other countries/cities around the world. "Movement forward" as a whole is expressed through her different ways and channels : musical choices, roles in the scene as well as a strong skill set, quite obviously :) for project management.

Ǝɯǝɐ is the musical exploring project of the musician from island of Mallorca (Balearic Islands), Miquel Alzanillas.

His deep interest in technology and avant-garde music inspired him to start producing and DJing at a young age. Since then, he has collaborated on various interdisciplinary projects, both in live performances and sound installations as well as in sound design for audiovisual projects. Currently, he combines ǝɯǝɐ project with designing and developing code for various Python applications.

Since his last release in 2019, he has been working on various audiovisual projects, both in sound design for advertising campaigns and scoring for a feature film.

Now, with his second album, ǝɯǝɐ is set to push his own limits even further, seeking a more digital and processed sound through landscapes that evoke science fiction in a dystopian future."

Stoked to welcome and celebrate this Summer's Solstice with the excellent DJ/Producer from Seoul (Korea) UNJIN, also known as Rainjacket, his other alias as an imaginative abstract ambient project.

Unjin's reputation for pushing musical boundaries began back in the mid 90’s as one of Korea's first underground indie musicians, in Seoul's relatively young underground music scene, grew through his imaginative live ambient solo project Rainjacket, and continues to develop in exciting new directions as an independent producer and DJ on the international stage.

Unjin's international debut as a DJ came with Miami WMC 2010 as Korea’s best electronic musician. Since then Unjin is fast becoming known in Asian techno circles as one of top producers and DJs to watch and has recently moved to Berlin to further satisfy his ambitions regarding his musical art. 

Unjin is the founder of Korea’s first techno label 'ECI Korea' , a platform to expose emerging domestic and international talents to the world stage, and also as composer and producer, Unjin has played a key role in laying the foundation for a Korean techno culture.

We let you dive into his beautiful work & selection with a slick, rounded progression showcasing just the perfect balance between introspective, intricate percussive sounds and more extroverted accents. All converging with perfect harmony as a treat for the ears, thereby celebrating Summer's solstice in lush style.

“In Greek mythology, Thanatos was the daemon personification of death.
In Freudian psychoanalytic theory it represents the death drive (German: Todestrieb) the drive towards death, self-destruction and the return to the inorganic. “The hypothesis of a death instinct, the task of which is to lead organic life back into the inanimate state”. The death drive opposes Eros, the tendency toward survival, propagation, sex, and other creative, life-producing drives.” I remember I read once you had a taste first for black/Death metal, hardcore/ doom styles :D What brought you to take the step toward Techno and mixing ?

I’m still listening to Black Metal at home. The repetitive character of the music and the soundscapes are quite similar to the techno I like/play. I just didn’t know this kind of music even existed: i was living in a tiny city where the club culture had mostly bad music to offer, which kind of killed it for me. It's only after visiting Berlin on a reg. basis that I realized there was a different scene out there. That's how it started...

You love hypnotic vibes, have a taste for dreamy atmospheres as well as you explore a more experimental side. How do you project yourself in the future ?
I don’t want to limit myself. I play what I like and what fits to the situation. Whether if it's ambient, experimental, deeper techno or peak time. We actually plan to do more experimental events with ESCH (THNTS' podcast & events Serie in BN, showcasing both local/international talents). 
A usual club night is just not the place for that... I also started another Serie at Urban Spree, more Postpunk-ish, Industrial techno, Acid, Disco and Wave. All kinds of music I love but that i don’t find myself playing often.

About ESCH precisely can you tell us a bit more about it and your point of view about the current scene ?
ESCH is quite young but I’m very happy about how it turned out. Ofc we're bound to the economical context but we try to focus on a mixture of acknowledged artists + under-the-radar talents that we think deserve more attention, or simply love. Which leads us to your question about the scene in BN ;) it's very big and diverse, but unfortunately not as open minded as they proclaim. Or as I would like it to be. When playing in other cities with a smaller scene I sometimes get the feeling that they're more open to my sound.

After years of exchanging ideas and producing --- and based on their long lasting friendship, Manu &amp; Karol founded their Imprint @flyancerecords based in Paris. With an epic "Dysphoria/Euphoria" EP, and the "55:55" &amp; "77:77" releases on Blocaus serie + the Beautiful "Noumene" (on colleague/friend french Label Taapion), the Duo quickly assembled titles that got them a growing attention. Deploying their Techno with a strong energy and a handful of well chosen Rmxes (Shlømo/Deepbass/Re:Axis, Setaoc Mass) Kas:st express their talent best when on scene, building hypnotic, deep powerful sets. They crafted a memorable trip here (that i already listened 4x in 24H... :D). Whatever the 'category/genre' (which later evolved) you want to 'call' them... With past releases on Informa, Oslated and Affin, Massa started producing in 2012 and later launched 'Hidden Traffic' https://hiddentraffic.bandcamp.com a platform he created to develop, experiment and share with kindred producers (4 Eps were issued and a fifth is coming up in 2020's first semester). Based in Barcelona, a city well known both for its vivid clubbing/festival culture as well as emerging talents, Massa keeps on exploring techno scene's landscape with renewed interest and forming collaborations with alike minded producers/djs across Europe. Based in Skopje, Klara recorded this session whilst being at Ohrid, one of Europe's deepest and oldest lakes (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO), located between the albanian and macedonian frontiers. Inspired by the unique vibration of this place, she's delivering Prior Act's 27th contribution with a 2H journey.

"High Priestess of the forest and of comprehensive electronic music and a multimedia artist", Klara approaches techno through her own shamanistic lens, "transmitting hypnotic psychedelia through driving beats. Starting as a resident of the all-girl techno crew Code XX parties in 2015, she's responsible for some of the most forward thinking electronic sound coming from Macedonia. Her deep, psychedelic, hypnotic djing & live expressions bring a special kind of emotional energy to all her performances. We are very pleased to present you today's contribution in the person of Svarog:  based in Lviv, Ukraine, the producer/Dj has been delivering some of the best deep/dark techno since 2015 (Circular Limited, Nachstrom Schallplatten, Affin, Illegal Alien, Pole groups’ Aine, to name a few). 

Svarog's name is rooted in ukranian mythology (God of Metal - the forge operator, God of fire) and draws some of its other inspiration in nature (mountains) & architecture - 3 major Key elements (mythology, nature & architecture) that makes it a  kindred spirit of PA. ;)

Combining saturated timbres, industrial sound, atmospheric landscapes w. sometimes broken beats, the producer/dj mixes shades of ambient, mysticism and 'real techno' to characterize his musical/artistic output. His specific textures, dark and atmospheric signature are out through a recent batch of new, freshly released material (you can find his 'Substances' EP on Affin as well as various contributions on Edit Select's label --- and compilations on Paradigma Records and DNC Limited). 

Far from trendiness or simplicity, focused on dark but evocative textures,  hosting him is the result of a long awaited wish! Please enjoy the listening. :) Thank you very much Oleksa <3

Lindsey Wang, also known as Polygonia, is a versatile art & music project based in Munich, Germany. Her preceding intensive and long practice playing several instruments as well as the experiences with other art forms, inspired the artist to translate her understanding of rhythm, composition & experimentalism into music. She creates mystic, deep soundscapes with a palette ranging from bright moods with lots of atmosphere & harmony, to the polyrhythmic abyss of techno or dark ambient. Polygonia is also a core member of the Label IO, that she co-founded together w. Dycide and MTRL.

Deep/hypnotic/mystic monthly podcast since late 2016, sometimes leaning toward raving Techno — The whole in strong, unique signatures, supporting both established as well as emerging Djs/artists and focusing on pulsating, atmospheric deep sounds. Based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Prior Act has a preference for free spirited people/set lengths, esp. toward Live sets and vinyl building approach (since Day One).
