This is a piece I started on January 31st 2020  that I have worked on on and off since. About a year ago I stopped working on it for a while because a lot of the arrangement and mixing was too hard for me. I just revisited it today (9/18/2021), did a lot of tuning up and tweaks, no structural changes or anything; I stayed as true to the older version as possible.
Green Glade was made entirely from a short improvisation (https://soundcloud.com/prismicofficial/green-glade-stem/s-4xGatOKHcj7) that I did on my midi keyboard right after I got the Ample Sound Cloudrum plugin that I used throughout the song. I ended the song with a part of that improvisation. Anyway, I hope you like it.

i worked a lot on the harmony so here it is
1st bit chords: Ab Fmin Db Cmin Ddim B Dmin Gmin9 Ebmaj9#11 (basically a Bb major 7 with Eb in the bass)
2nd bit chords: Ab Fmin Cmin Db Cmin E Gmin and then when that repeats its mostly the same except Eb7 at the end
End part chords (ooh juicy): Abmaj7 Emin9 C F#min9/E? Dmin Aminmaj7 Aaug Db6 Eb7 Abmaj7

"Ice Cube" is a little piece about an ice cube's life, starting with being frozen in the freezer and then being taken out and put into a glass of Sprite® before dissolving and being swallowed. I was inspired to write this by my love of ice cubes, but also by a guest instructor in my schools composition class. I had written a mediocre lo-fi song for it and I remember them saying it sounds fine and asking me if I like any movies. I had just watched the Lord of the Rings movies so I sad that I like Lord of the Rings and they said great! Why don't you write a piece about throwing a ring into a pit of lava. Or, a piece about a cube. I was skeptical at first but it became one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received-- not just because I followed part of the advice but because it showed me how to truly be original and make unique interesting music rather than very derivative music, while still taking inspiration from many different places. (Nothing wrong with music that is based heavily on another song/piece! You'll hear a lot of it in the rest of the collection.) Thinking about that helped me get out of and expand my comfort zone. I'm proud to say that nobody else in the world would have written this piece anything like I did, even if we started out the same. I drafted the first half of this piece on November 15th, 2019 and soon after I finished it and then revised it, and have been sitting on it since then. I spent 4 hours and 29 minutes working on the project file.

Ice Cube

"Wav" was directly inspired by HOME's synthwave music and I started it during a time when I was listening to a lot of that: July 4th, 2020. I spent 10 hours and 33 minutes on this, mostly during 2020.

"Love Theme" is not actually a love theme about anyone or anything, I just wrote it when I was listening to Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet and 6th symphony and was moved and inspired by their melodies. I started this little fragment on May 26th, 2020 and worked on it for 5 hours and 4 minutes believe it or not. Most of that was sampling the Guzheng from the soundtrack of Avatar: The Last Airbender (another thing I was really into at the time) that I used for the melody. I spent a little bit of time making the strings sound good too, and then some just listening to it. I'm happy with how it sounds; maybe I will use it in a future project.

Love Theme

"R&R" stands for Rest and Relaxation, both in general and also the specific time of day called rest hour after lunch at a summer camp I used to go to. I started it from a Splice sample-- this must have been one of the few periods where I paid for Splice-- and then just added a few other things once I figured out what was actually happening in the sample. You can actually hear that it's a sample and not a sound that I made because the little "woooww" sound is faster at higher pitches and slower lower. I started this and wrote most of it on December 23rd, 2020 and spent 2 hours and 45 minutes on it total. It's pretty short and not very inspired but it taught me how to stick with and develop a soundworld.

"Bossfight in 3 Voices" merges old school videogame soundtrack with old school Baroque fugue.. I took a lot of liberty with the form so it's more of a fugue in spirit but I still think I got the main point across: each voice enters with the subject, or the main theme, and then diverges into counterpoint (not very great counterpoint in this case but whatever) and develops the subject. Then there are some sections where the subject is not being played called episodes. One of my oversights is that the voices each play the subject at the same pitch so I guess it would technically be more of an invention than a fugue. I had never learned anything about counterpoint when I wrote this, though, and I didn't know there were these conventions, I was just trying to copy off of one of my favorite pieces, Bach's Little Fugue in G minor. Anyway, I spent 4 hours and 34 minutes on this and wrote almost all of it on January 19th, 2021 (almost two years ago now). Hope you enjoy!

Bossfight in 3 Voices

"Home" is the second synthwave piece I tried to write (after "Wav") and you can see that I didn't put much effort into naming these. I did put effort into the production though, even though I never really learned how to mix electronic music I tried my best to make these sound professional and clean, to a debatable degree of success. But I stuck with these pieces for a while (12 hours and 41 minutes to be exact) to get them to sound just how I wanted them to. I think I explored the hemiola rhythm well here, in a simple but still interesting development in the second drop. I started this on August 8th, 2020, once I had temporarily given up on getting "Wav" to sound good. As you can hear it's gotten a lot better, but maybe it's lost the natural and effortless quality that it almost once had. Overproduction? Maybe.

"Monologue" is a little solo synth piece. I started it on July 2nd, 2020, and worked on it for about 4 hours and 10 minutes. I think it turned out well but I ended up listening to it so much and getting used to how it sounded that it became too hard to change it, even though I think the song would be more effective if there was a little bit of reflection after the climax and before the ending that's already there. Hope you enjoy.

Monologue

This cover/reharm of Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen was a birthday present for my dad because it's one of his favorite songs. I started (and finished) it on December 28th, 2020 (my dad's birthday) and worked on it for a little under 3 hours in total. Hope you enjoy. Born To Run

"N E Ways" is a little song that I think really demonstrates my growth as a composer and for that reason I'm really proud of it. I started this song on December 14th, 2020, and all I did was the very first phrase that starts the song, and then later I added a drums and a little arpeggio, but I was basically stuck and I didn't know how to develop it from an idea into a piece. I revisited it, I think during 2021 but I don't remember for sure, and expanded on it a lot and it became one of my best tunes, party because of how it takes this weird five bar syncopated 6/8 phrase and makes it work as a functioning and interesting melody. It works despite its rhythmic and harmonic strangeness in a genre dominated by 4/4 4 bar phrases and alternating major 7 chords. And it's just groovy, I think the key change actually works really well, and I managed to pull of a time signature change in a program that doesn't support time signature changes. The strange thing is, despite my self-praise on this song, I don't really think it's something I'd ever really listen to-- I just don't listen to electronic music much anymore. That's part of why this is likely to be the last collection of songs I ever release on here. Anyway, I hope you like it. I spent 6 hours and 53 minutes on it.

This song means a lot to me because I actually wrote the melody about 3 years ago and had never found a way to use it in a song. I came back to the project for the EP and tried to make a song for it to be the outro of, which ended up becoming "vintage dreams." I then made it a piano piece and added that sad little pluck sound in the second verse and i think it turned out well.
Also, based on this song format i just wrote another one that i think is even better. stay tuned c:
