We stood under the metal leaf roof
Your nose turned up, you said, “Sky soup!”
Caught a raindrop on your tongue like gold
Then asked if clouds can catch a cold
I said, “Only when they cry too hard”
You nodded, solemn, your gaze all stars
You hummed a tune with your coat half done
Feet tapping time to the puddle’s drum

“Do you think thunder’s a dragon sneeze?”
You danced, said, “He’s allergic to trees!”
Laughed so loud it made birds flee
Spun around like you were wind set free
You said, “Rain is just the sky’s shampoo”
“Washing away what it doesn’t want to do”
I said, “Then we must be what’s left behind”
You said, “That’s okay — we’re the shiny kind”

You wiped my tear with your magic belief

And I believed you like the first time you smiled

The bus didn’t come — but we didn’t care
You told the storm a joke, it split the air
A flash of light, then giggles and shrieks
You said, “Mum’s laughing — she missed us this week”
I looked away so you wouldn’t see
