Hilltown Disco are back with their 7th angel in the ongoing Angel series, in the form of Asbeel.

Joining the label to help raise awareness are L-Pad, Ole Mic Odd, JLM Werx, DJ NERDIBOY, and Niall Power.

All profit goes towards the worthy mental-health project, Art Angel, who continue to change the lives of people in the Dundee area. The charity is run by people with mental health issues by those who have been through similar experiences, and offers a safe place for people to discover and rediscover themselves through many different art-forms. It’s a paranoiac soundscape with vocal smears and interference, driving you through a futuristic urban darkness in the way only good electro can, without ever being formulaic or predictable. The old cliche is true – if it ain't broke don't fix it, but to that we might add: just keep pushing it to its limits. Truss and Sync 24 are certainly doing that.

Low Tape, a rising star from Russia, is one of the producers currently making a name for himself while championing the recently refreshed electro sound. Finding a home for his newest "Walking the Streets" EP on London's Of Paradise imprint, a label with a focus on the tougher side of electronic music, the Russian producer effortlessly squeezes into their limited but already distinguished catalogue. Blending heavy hitting drums, lo-fi textures and acid lines, Low Tape is right at home amongst cohorts Trudge, Baltra, Shedbug and others who have made an appearance on the label.

Our premiere today is the A2 and is aptly titled A Day of Electrical Revolution. This uptempo jam is made strictly for the late night dancefloor. Hard hitting kicks and a saw-y bassline are the backbone of this rave-inspired jam which would be a perfect fit for a big old warehouse. Squelchy synth lines and deep, textured atmospheres bring a euphoric energy, curiously bringing back memories of some old psytrance records, not the first time we've noticed this in recent productions. As music goes in cycles and sounds of yore are often recycled, this natural amalgamation of the old and new is to be expected, and, more often than not is also quite refreshing.

Maelstrom – Dialogue

There's a good bunch of intense, dark and extreme, grinding electro-techno gems on the "Raval Rave Breakers" first compilation. While Boris Divider's 'Collapsed Cluster' recalls of the more clinical approach of labels like Raster-Noton, Eel manages to deliver a fresh mix of styles on 'Sraight Edge', where Old Skool Breakbeat and EBM draw an unforgettable match made in heaven. Last track on the A side comes from Classicworks boss Neuhen, but is Patricia (Opal Tapes, Spectral Sound) who remixes it: in "Supress" we can find all the magic tricks of the NYC based producer: eery atmospheres, gently distorted drums and a warm feeling of cozyness. On the flip, RNXRX delivers "Aktion Intertia", one of the most psychedelic jams he's ever did: an industrial acid track as catchy as it can be. Oakland's "Heroine From The North" sounds a bit like when New Beat became faster and more agressive, being mixed with styles like EBM and trance.
