The 40th release of katharsis is the EP “Life is Hard” by Malle Voss coming out on April 10th. Following up on his debut release “Death is Easy” on Blue Tapes from 2022, the artist expands his musical pilgrimage into pure and spiritual affection in chaotic and dark territory. By using emotion in a structural way, the 6 tracks portray deep truths of overcoming struggle and turning nonsense into meaning. The tracks work like dark botanical angel artifacts, each with its rituals and prayers of death motivation and enlightenment through hardship. The range of sentiments covers everything from both beauty and joy to aggression and ecstasy, in its messy-by-design style of maximalist minimalism.

The 45th release of katharsis is the EP "Intrusion" by Italian artist Lefka, releasing in full on October 28th. Throughout the six tracks of the EP, Lefka swaddles the listener in a dense and distorted quilt of sound that feels both heavy and light at the same time. "Intrusion" is a release that aims to sonify the acceptance of intrusive thoughts through a kathartic and emotionally intense experience.

Through heavy use of granular synthesis and electric guitar recordings, the release varies from calm, introspective moments to peaks of intense sound pressure. Like through glass, the sounds refract and are broken into pieces, creating an aural effect of rebound and confused scattering, and like intrusive thoughts, the tracks have abrupt peaks that reset the silence with unsettling intensity.

Lefka is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. As in a stream of consciousness, his own productions are characterized by an irreverent and disillusioned approach, which aim to detach from a precise genre-categorization.

Hold U is a 130bpm 2-step trip stitched together from fragments of five worlds, colliding into one monumental groove. A psychedelic collage of rhythm and texture, it shimmers with cosmic tension — a patchwork of grainy lo-fi voices, echoes, and basslines converging in perpetual motion. Grainy nostalgia bleeds into futuristic shimmer, as if Brian Eno met the rave continuum in a dreamtime arcade. Each beat folds into the next, a quintaphonic fusion where garage swing becomes kaleidomix delirium. More than a mix — it’s a ritual, a prismwave convergence, a supernatural soundtrack for late-night wanderers chasing the heavy glow.
