Ending the year on a high having witnessed a plethora of musical highlights, Meanwhile has been a shining beacon for progressive house throughout 2021. Now, Australian, Mike Rish, becomes the latest debutant to showcase his talents on GMJ & Matter’s blossoming imprint with the 3-track “Beyond” EP.

From his home on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Mike Rish has witnessed an impressive rise to notoriety, courtesy of a clutch of high-profile releases on an exclusive set of blue-chip labels. Not wanting to flood the progressive house scene with a swathe of formulaic dance music, the Melbourne resident’s “selective output” is based on a carefully thought-out commitment to “keep people engaged, but also wanting more”. Thus, Rish’s work for the likes of Colorize, Serendeep and Juicebox Music, has seen the Australian carve out a sizeable niche for himself, further enhanced by March 2021’s 12-track “Interlinked” album for UGENIUS Music.

Opening his Meanwhile account with the “Beyond” title track, a chunky beat and cavernous bass groove sit tightly against off-beat hats and snare. Filtering into sonic range, an elegant arpeggio provides glorious melodic interplay as white-noise washes and meandering pads pulse gently across the near 10-minute piece. Full of spine-tingling atmosphere, additional melodic phrasing is introduced at the breakdown before extending into the third movement with ease, combined with a raft of effects and masterful touches.

A bouncing bass groove immediately finds “Mindgame” oozing with hypnotic force and low-end menace. Sat perfectly in between deep kick and ticking hats, a flowing melodic line ripples across proceedings as it rises and falls with filtered dynamism. Twisted vocal cuts and acetylene-edged synth effects pitch with glissando range adding to the aural collage in a track full of dark and mesmerising beauty.

Closing the EP, “Here For You” is characterised by an intricate percussive arrangement that introduces a subtle melodic backdrop. Effects and textured pads span the stereo stage in modulated glory as a pulsating lead melody enters the fray in the second movement. Building steadily before revealing itself fully in the stripped back breakdown, the second half blossoms in commanding fashion with a pulsating confluence of rhythm and melody. The result is a track that illustrates Mike Rish’s unique talent and technique.

A musical triptych full of innovation and sonic narrative, Mike Rish has gone above and “Beyond” with a glittering display of production prowess.

SLC-6 Music opens the new year with a new single from D.J. MacIntyre and Dr Green. Hailing from California, D.J. MacIntyre has been a beloved figure within the American electronic music scene for the better part of a decade. Oftentimes finding the creative space between progressive house and melodic techno, D.J. MacIntyre has taken his cross-genre sound to some of the undergrounds trendiest imprints, most notably Nick Warrens The Soundgarden, Clubsonica, Freegrant Music and RKP. Also well travelled as a DJ, the Santa Barbara resident has appeared at some of the worlds most prestigious events, most notably Burning Man and ADE, while also showcasing his borderless programming skills in Moscow, Malta, Sri Lanka, and all across the United States. Meanwhile, hailing from Sri Lanka, Daniel Claessen aka Dr Green has been one of SLC-6s core artists since making his debut in 2022 with a contribution to the SIX: Stage-11 collection. The next three calendar years would see Daniel deliver eight originals and three remixes for the American imprint, while also finding a home on Balkan Connection, Droid9 and La Foresta, amongst others. Now, as 2025 begins to take shape, D.J. MacIntyre and Dr Green combine their extensive forces for the first time on Martian Boogie, alongside remixes from Rockka, Juani Ramirez and GSix. The original mix shows just how good the creative synergy is between D.J. MacIntyre and Dr Green, as the duo crafts a memorable progressive journey that proves to be both musical and club-effective. A backbone of beefy beats and chugging grooves sets the pace for organic percussion, haunting motifs and a bevy of deconstructed sonics to conjure up transcendent imagery for the dancefloor. Touted Sri Lankan talent Rockka makes his SLC-6 return and provides the first remix following projects for Long Way Records and Mango Alley. Maintaining the spirit of the original, Rockka injects his own progressive spirit into the journey, one which focuses on a strong effects narrative and a searing acid build to lift the mood of any set. Also making his return to the label is Juani Ramirez who provides the second interpretation of Martian Boogie. With Juanis SLC-6 debut landing in November of last year as part the SIX: Stage-23 collection, the Argentine now provides his first remix for the label, delivering a straight forward no frills progressive workout, complete with buoyant grooves, emerging synth lines and a thunderous drop. Rounding out the release with the third and final interpretation of Martian Boogie is GSix who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Los Angeles resident has been noted for his borderless approach to production, oftentimes described as challenging and exploratory. Here GSix finds a cohesive balance between progressive house and techno, utilizing the main themes from the original with a relentless dancefloor approach.

Presenting their second release of 2025, D.J. MacIntyres SLC-6 Music welcomes Nimbus (BR) to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Brazil, Tom and Venao make up the newly coined Nimbus production moniker. First operating as a DJ duo, the pair founded UNNIT, an event promotion to support Brazils vibrant nightlife. As a producer Venao has already achieved measurable success across his four year solo career. Releases via Balkan Connection, Comet Records, Deep Down Music and Electronic Groove sit prominently on his discography, while support from progressive music trendsetters Ezequiel Arias, GMJ, Hernan Cattaneo and Mariano Mellino, amongst others, has propelled him into the forefront of Brazils burgeoning progressive scene. SLC-6 has also been a landing spot for Venao, with his label debut coming in May of last year. Now, paired with Tom as Nimbus, the duo make their production debut via SLC-6 with Spectral Illusion, alongside remixes from Leandro Murua and Dr Green. Spectral Illusion sets the tone for the Nimbus sound with an energetic peaktime flavour. Punishing kick drums and muscular grooves set the pace for skittered rhythms, arcane effects and fuzzed out arps to create a semi-conscious sonic journey, one that is sure to light up your dancefloor. Making his label debut with the first remix is Argentinian artist Leandro Murua, who arrives on the label following projects for Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Nick Warrens The Soundgarden. The Cordoba resident opts for a different mood and vibe, relying on swaying grooves, hypno-rhythms and slowburn progression to cast a meditative spell over the listener. Rounding out the release with the second and final interpretation of Spectral Illusion is SLC-6 label manager Dr Green. Beloved for his cross-cultural sound, the Sri Lankan artist brings a contemporary progressive vibe to the piece, expertly working exotic percussive arrangements over energized chord stabs and low slung grooves.
