A variety of custom sounds from the Akai AX80. Info and samples of this synth are quite rare on the net so I've done my bit and uploaded this. It's not the raw (mono) output, but through some reverb/delay/effects etc (but that is how I'd use it in music and gives a fairer comparison to modern synths which all have built in 'sweetner' effects anyway).All this was played on the fly with no preparation (no sequencing either) so has some errant noodling, clichéd riffs and pauses while I'm switching patches and 'testing' sounds etcAnd I know it could do with some serious editing down (esp towards the end) but it was NOODLING and I didn't have time to mess with it too much right now... warts n all! :)

THIS is not here to impress! It's merely a sonic record of the synth in case I get rid of it and one day wish to listen to the sound it can make. :)

Some improv noodling with some custom sounds I've made on the V-Synth (original V2 Keyboard - using only on-board effects). Showing some of the warm thick pads and unique FM sounds you can get. This is using mostly the built in VA section. 
The last sound (pad) is using a sample of a JD-990's string PCM sample (sampled into the V from the JD) on both oscs.

quick human league style test of the Moog Sub 37 - I'm sure I could get closer to the real sounds (apparently double tracked on the record for thickness) with enough time but here's a quick attempt - with reverb recording - may multitrack this up and reconstruct the track some day to compare to the JP-6/8 versions out there (and the original JP-4/CS)

Lovely JD-800 Filter in action. The resonance on this (if kept within clipping limits) is one of the most beautiful on the planet. Yes even though it is 100% digital! This kind of sweep sound is rarely heard even on many analogs and sounds much nicer than the similar effect on some analog Rolands (i.e the JX-8P which can do this but sounds much more plastic and less refined - this actually sounds more how I'd want a 'synthesizer' to sound)-

To me this reminds me of some kind of cross between a prophet 5 and jupiter 8 filter sweep, the detail within the resonance as the cut off gets lower is very sweet and atmospheric (and just 'there').

And no, the D-50 can NOT get even close to this sound!

A warm pad, in 2 pole filter mode, using 40 (out of 127) value on sub osc (Prophet 08 can't do this - no sub osc!). Anyone who thinks these things have to sound harsh is nuts!

All from on-board the synth, no external fx, uses on board delay, unison 'chord' mode and some typical modulations while in osc 'sync' mode. Very easy to create atmospheres on the Rev 2 (Prophet 08 was no slouch but Rev 2 is even better!)

just some rough noodling on the (REAL not VSTi!) Roland SH-2 using the 'go tos' of modern synth life (Stranger things and ROYGBIV), Note I was playing 'things by hand while tweaking the sound with the other hand so it has mistakes, not the point, it's about the sound/tone not the performance.

Going through some standard verb/delay, nothing fancy.
