High five to our 5th edition of Livingroom Techno, our annual winterish concept compilation for cozy house and techno, produced and arranged to be listened to ideally on a bearskin rug in front of a crackling fire. Apart from several highlights out of our repertoire, all fitting under our stylistic roof of Livingroom Techno, we again have a few exclusive titles on board, of which we are more than proud. We start with Sam K’s "Elido“, a tune with a proper buzz on it since it was played by Mano Le Tough in his first Boiler Room last summer. A super deep and intoxicating affair. Next up is the warm and alluring "Clausius“ by Musumeci from Sicily. His releases on his own label can be found in almost every set by Dixon and Âme, making him to a real insider tip. Timelapse, the Berlin-based Italian duo. has delivered a genuine Connaisseur track with "Next Day“, perfectly arranged and full of emotions. The last exclusive title is by the two Italian brothers from Mathame. "Hologram Child“ is full of abstract beauty. A special track which takes you on a journey.

Did you know Singapore's best kept secret goes by the name of TAJ? Tim de Cotta (bass/vocals), Audrey Tengkey (piano, keys and synth) and Teo Jia Rong (drums) form the exciting contemporary Jazz trio TAJ.

Their forthcoming "The Astral Journey" EP will be released with local independent record label, Darker Than Wax. It's a cross pollination of beats, psychedelia, post-rock, breaks and everything it takes to please the discerning ears of contemporary Jazz fans.

We gratefully premiere the title track, which is by far the most organic piece of music on the EP. If you like Robert Glasper, you need to feast your ears on this fasho!

The EP comes out January 30th and includes remixes from Dutch producer Jaël and Cosa Nostra from Singapore.

Three weeks have passed since the inception of ‘Werk Space’. A monthly Dutch producer series that takes place at the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam. Here’s how it works.
Each month we invite a producer from the Netherlands to showcase his artistry and challenge him to work in an amazingly fruitful environment.

The Red Bull Studios Amsterdam is a state-of-the-art recording and production facility, where renowned and up-and-coming artists, are provided with everything they need in order to celebrate and create music!

Nineteen-year-old Singularis delivers the first blow with some help of fellow producer Sndwvs. After two days of pure creativity, and some laughs, they left the studio having devised a laid back Hiphop beat entitled “Ride”. 

We joyfully premiere the very first piece of music spawned from this series. We’ll merge all three tracks into one EP and release it as a free download early April.

Next month our guests will be @Moodsprod from Rotterdam and a young vocalist from Ghent. Best believe this is only the first of many music findings. You will come to know, love and respect the many talented producers our little country has to offer.

For our 131st freebie, we head over to Argentina, where a certain beatmaker by the name of Halpe resides. Very little is known of this guy, but we do know he has been steadily sharpening his skills, making solid tunes one after the other. Collaborations have always been rather fruitful, as he's worked with contemporaries like Gylzey, Kai Peaks and Esher so far.

After last month’s »Busted Moniker« EP from Quarion, Retreat is thrilled to announce a new 12" courtesy of house music’s most energetic duo, the incomparable Session Victim! The aptly titled »Two Man House Band EP« is the lads’ first record since their 2014 magnum Opus »See You When You Get There« and perfectly transcribes the energy that Session Victim pour into their incendiary live show. Tailormade for a night out in the club or a joyous day at the festival, the »Two Man House Band EP« once again prooves that Session Victim are unstoppable in their pursuit of the ultimate groove!

»Summer Games« is an ode to that most festive of seasons and could easily hold the claim of being Retreat’s »biggest« track so far. Built around an Hypnotic organ loop, »SummerGames« completely blurs the lines between house, funk and soul : rolling breakbeats, catchy vocal snippets and a very groovy bassline are the core elements of this anthem that could rock any party. Yet Session Victim add a slight twist in the form of a melancholic string motive that appears in two chiseled breakdowns. It’s a little reminder that summers do not last forever and that one should enjoy them while they last ...

Flip the record in order to dive into the deeper realms of »Black Cream«, a more reflective track for the late hours. With its jazzy (almost broken) beat, guitar licks, rhodes pads, subtle percussion and ethereal vocals, »Black Cream« is the soundtrack to an exciting underwater trip with Matthias and Hauke at the controls. Thanks to the captains’ lively drum programming, the track flows effortlessly and we’re treated with many surprises along the way before a gradual rise brings us back to the surface.

»Finderlohn« is a smokey downtempo workout which finds Session Victim digging deep in their collection to demonstrate their prowess in manipulating samples. Beginning with an instanly classic guitar and piano loop, »Finderlohn« allows a shuffly breakbeat to take center stage, sometimes reinforced with double-time hihats for a more dramatic effect. The tune is definitely a headnodder’s paradise and the listener is taken that little bit higher thanks to a mystical flute solo that concludes »Finderlohn« in a psychedelic way.
