04 Yaw - Where Would You Be

Album number three, conceived in three different studios around the world, by the three-headed love monster which is Buttering Trio.

Our third and new album is the reflection of the sobering evolvement of ourselves. We approached the making of the album with clarity and intention, working on a regular basis with a very specific vision, a vision of an album that ultimately combines the beauty of studio-beat-making and organic songwriting. Unlike our previous albums, that were more on the range of spontaneous intuitive combustions, this album is a matured love child of an ever-awaking threesome of parents. ‘Threesome’ is an album that moves the soul, bounces the body and looks in the eyes.

The album was created in 3 different studios around the world - Trixx Studios in Berlin, Fossil Studios in London and Firehouse Studios in Tel Aviv. All the sessions were driven by an uncompromising sound approach, yet always with the natural twist of noise. The creative process was in liquid form - it could be an intuitive beat making upon which harmonies and lyrics are laid, or it could begin with a well processed harmony to which a rhythm is matched.The song making was always potent with playfulness but the big picture was solid. 

Influenced, as always, by round-the-galaxy rhythms and ideas, from indian ragas thru tribal music to archetypical melodies with a drop of dub, this is definitely a new kind of genre. Or no kind at all. This style represents our music and comes to a perfect extraction in this album. Each song stands for itself as an individual, tells a single complete story, still contributing to the harmony of the whole. The special kind of tension between the single song and the whole musical vision is one that we play with, in our live concerts and in this new album specifically. 

The album owes its’ existence to the uniquely changing relationship between the three of us. A relationship that manifests through communication that allows space and mystery, and is based on the common primal acceptance that nothing stays the same.

Some ultra talented friends helped to make this album - Asaf Shay, Piloni, Yogev Glusman, Yonatan Albalak, Tomer Bar, Raz Olsher and Avi Tuchman.

Buttering Trio - From The Tree

Prolific South African producer/DJ/song writer/film maker, Spoek Mathambo returns with a new project called The Mzansi Beat Code. The Mzansi Beat Code is Spoek's third solo album, following Mshini Wam (BBE, 2010) and Father Creeper (Sub Pop, 2012) and having released numerous side projects such as Fantasma's Free Love and Batuk's Musica da Terra.

Mzansi is slang/colloquial for South Africa, and The Mzansi Beat Code is project expressing the rich culture of electronic music that exists in Mathambo's native country, South Africa. Following the feature length documentary about South African electronic music, Future Sound of Mzansi (directed by Spoek Mathambo & Lebogang Rasethaba), Mathambo returns with a musical project that explores and subverts the sonic landscape of South Africa, in all it's intensity, funkiness, flair, absurdity and power.

With a sound as vibrant as the city that made them, The Problem Kids are a 6-piece Miami band on a mission to spread their infectious music to the rest of the world. Just one spin of PK and it’s apparent they are a true product of their culturally-diverse, frenetic environment. Is it Island Hop? Tropical Urban? Nu Wave Rap?! Label them what you will, but with a fiery mix of street-wise “Spanglish” rhymes, pulsating beats, and luscious sing-along melodies, one thing is for certain - these Kids aren’t playing around.
 
PK's undeniably fresh sound is characterized by the group’s willingness to bounce effortlessly between vintage hip-hop, roots rock, and Caribbean salsa rhythms without missing a step. For some, this could prove to be a messy mix, yet the band's crafty songwriting and keen awareness of musical space allow their disparate influences to blend together seamlessly. With creative arrangements and catchy melodies in place, the storytelling lyricism from two witty emcees seal the signature PK sound. Whether calling to mind the pain of communist struggle from their Cuban forefathers, or reciting coming-of-age tales of youth in sunny paradise, the captivating rhymes ensure their listeners are moved through both thought and sound.
 
But it’s not just their music alone that defines PK. In a city that relishes its stature as an non-stop entertainment destination and a multicultural hub, The Problem Kids’ live show embodies that true Miami spirit, uplifting their audience on a thrill ride thru the Magic City... borrowing scenes from the throbbing night clubs of South Beach, the rhythmic streets of Little Havana, and even the urban artistry of the mural-filled Wynwood district.
 
The PK live experience is THE raucous, all-night private party you want to be at - and luckily, everyone is invited. With a stunning display of musicianship, stage presence, and pin-point vocal accuracy, The Problem Kids pride themselves on engaging their audience wholeheartedly through a sick stage show.
 
The band’s line-up is a mix of some of city’s most reputable musicians, coming together from a variety of former groups. Drummer Nick Lebess and saxophonist/keyboardist Humberto Casanova bring many years of road experience having performed with veteran jazz/rock outfit Day Music Died. Bassist Eddy Davis and guitarist Omar Williams joined forces early on with alternative pop group Addax, while emcees Marty Obregon and Tish Martinez began writing together as The Dream Team in college.
 
In 2010, The Problem Kids dropped their first full-length album, Poetry in Motion, which introduced the masses to their vibrant sound and featured some of Miami’s top emerging talent including songstress Anna Palmerola on the track “Ride with Me,” and rising reggae artist AG Lyonz on “Hold Me Down.” The album was well-received with local press, and catapulted the group to a busy show schedule, which included opening slots for hip-hop legends Chuck D, Uncle Luke, Rakim and more in 2012 alone.
 
Though the group cherishes the accolades they’ve received thus far, PK has kept their nose to grind, meticulously crafting their highly-anticipated sophomore EP (due out late 2013). In the words of emcee Marty, their “storytelling qualities got the whole city on their toes,” which is certainly the case until the next Problem Kids chapter is revealed.
