Problem Makers - Nyx (Original Mix)

AEON and label boss Alex Niggemann are thrilled to welcome Denis Horvat back to AEON for another smashing EP, this time with the superb three-tracker ‘Minor’.

Previously releasing on Noir Music, Upon You, Get Physical and Souvenir, not to mention his stellar release on AEON last year, the Danish producer is getting his just desserts after years of meticulously curating and creating stellar music.

Here we have a hat trick of all encompassing cuts, and although bursting with the oomph you need for a heads down, hands up main room stomp, these tracks offer you more than just a 4’4 beat and a soundtrack to your rave, thanks to the skill and careful attention Horvat has put into each one.

Captivating from the off, Minor is a melancholic yet rapid composition of layered synth chords and percussion. As your heart starts to race, the energy continues to build with the track ‘DIY’, complete with driving bassline, reverb and effective distortion.

Rounding off on a high, ‘Cedevita’ brings the pulse back up again with another meticulously programmed latticework of drums, bass, and unadulterated dance floor decadence, with that added ambience of intrigue that goes hand in hand with Horvat’s productions.

Through this solid EP, the producer continues to create dense, barnstorming techno beats complete with that extra signature darkness.

This sensationally crafted four track EP perfectly cap- tures the dark melodic techno sound that Francys has grown so accustomed to. An ambient and atmospheric undertone accompanies and surrounds each production on the EP, which is perfectly captured by the opening track ‘Different Shapes’. This production is a perfect opener displaying Francys diverse and unique sound that is often trademarked and recognizable by the synth melodies that layer each production.

Combining crisp closed percussion and haunting de- layed synth keys; ‘Nibiru’ offers a more minimal techno sound to the EP, with the distorted snare and powerful kick drum layered under the track. The baseline remains ambient leaving Francys synth arrangement to draw in the listener and drive the production forward.

‘Arcenciel’ captivates the listener with a fusion of darkened piano riffs and chilling melodies. This track is a stand out production from the EP, a steady dramatic progression over eight minutes resulting in the track gradually fading out accompanied by an echoed synth.

Selador, the independent underground label spearheaded by Dave Seaman & Steve Parry, may be just two years young, but they have built quite the repertoire of artists, and their 24th release is one by Dutchman Jaap Jigthart titled “I Know Change”, which has Alice Rose on vocals.

SHOW-B keep the melodies a little more minimal and roll out the percussions. This interpretation is tougher, and keeps things darker in a more visceral aspect, in that, the atmospheric aura surrounding the original are seemingly not as prominent in this remix.

Hailing from Madrid and partly operating from techno city Berlin, we are here to announce a premiere for Some Science. 

Some Science is a new project from Miguel Prieto & Javier Moreno who we know from the fantastic trio @ProblemMakers.  Their particular approach in the studio, the deep knowledge of sound engineering and their huge experience making music in different projects, give the duo the opportunity to give their musical direction a spin and produce a more techno oriented album called 'The universe of Gödel'.

‘The Universe Of Gödel’ will be released next December 12th through the Spanish imprint iLogic Label.

Javier Moreno & Miguel Prieto are the two halves of Some Science, a new artistic group that will settle their own starting point with their first six-tracker long work named ‘The Universe of Gödel’, the first part of the project.
Based around the history of the renowned mathematician Kurt Gödel – to be more precise, around his phrase «relativity is just fine, whereas time in the intuitive sense is an illusion» – the duo wanted to express their creative concerns that arose in their particular and timeless universe. In the moment the musician enters the studio to produce, to create his own universe, the real world steps aside to become a parallel reality. That’s the place where Some Science feels more comfortable, where they can create in their own present, neither looking into the past, nor looking for a particular future.
This work has been created under a unique and strong bassline, with a scheme dominated by the rules of techno, with the main focus on club sounds. Without too many cryptic codes, the six tracks are a reflection of the two restless minds that created Some Science as a side project to Problem Makers, a formation that got very good results with their two previous releases: ‘Die Leere’ and ‘The Filmmaker’.

Three in the studio, two in the dj booth. Madrid born and raised trio “Problem Makers” feel comfortable digging into dark melodies, deep neat blackness. Their music comes from a pure techno spirit under one only condition: no samples allowed, just inner creative research. 

This process has shaped a unique sound, combining the forceful side from their early days with a new gloomy touch, adding up the constant essential lowest frequencies.

‘Blackout’ resident djs in 2013, one of the most successful clubs in Madrid’s techno scene, Problem Makers decided afterwards to focus on studio production. As a result, their first single called ‘Nyx’ was released on ‘Animal Series 010’ (Selected Records, Nov.2014). Good things kept flowing as their first EP ‘Die Leere’ (Feb.2015) got released on Barcelona-based label ‘NoStyleIsStyle’, remixed by Ryan Davis and Undo. A four track musical adventure very well received by electronic music press such as Dj Mag, Vicious Magazine, Clubbingspain, Beatburguer, Vintech Magazine.

2015 got them into new projects, such as a solid performance on the live streaming show called “Vicious Live” with Marc Marzenit. Right after, they went on a mini tour around Barcelona, Madrid and Cáceres, a great way to spread their wings throughout Spain, getting the warmest welcome each time.

Tres son los ejes que trabajan en el estudio y dos de ellos los que actúan en DJ-set, reservando la actuación en conjunto para su directo. Esa es la particular fórmula que describe a Problem Makers, una formación que tiene una fijación particular por la oscuridad más melódica, por una negritud pulcra. Sus producciones surgen de una esencia basada en techno sin fisuras, creado bajo una sola condición: nada de samples; todos los elementos que componen su música deben surgir de su investigación creativa. 

Sin duda esta es una de las características que les ha ayudado a encontrar un sonido propio que refleja su pasado más contundente junto a nuevas vertientes melancólicas y una predominancia fija por las ondas más graves.

Durante 2013 formaron parte de la cantera más prometedora de la escena techno madrileña siendo residentes de la sesión Blackout. Tras desligarse de ésta los chicos de Problem Makers focalizaron su trabajo en el estudio. Resultado de este período es su primer single, Nyx, publicado en el recopilatorio Animalseries010 de Selected Records. También de aquí surge su primer EP (2015): ‘Die Leere’; una referencia publicada en el sello catalán NoStyleIsStyle en la que Ryan Davis y Undo completaron con sus remixes una aventura musical muy bien acogida por la crítica (DJ Mag, Vicious Magazine, Clubbingspain, Beatburger, Vintech Magazine…).

Antes de emprender una pequeña gira por Barcelona, Madrid y Cáceres en 2015, la agrupación mostró su mejor baza en varios video-streaming, con especial mención al que protagonizaron para “Vicious Live” junto a Marc Marzenit.
