EarToGround Podcast 6 - EKATA

Holy Island, an island off of the coast of North Wales is where Dez Williams begun spinning wax at an early age and now maintains his humble analogue / digital studio. Isolated from the marketing, fashion and pretentious attitudes that plague the music industry, Dez is free to express himself through his machines. 

Safe from this environment he is unconstrained and has no urge to conform with any ideal or aesthetic and thus his electronic music is pure self expression. A window into his soul. His day job at an electronic components factory means that he is no stranger to repetition, rhythm and electronics. 

His sound is perhaps a product of his daily grind with boredom, escapism, events in his life and a long term passion for technology, horror and science fiction. Inspired by many of the classic Chicago / Detroit / Electro / Techno producers, like the finest, his sound is unique, uncompromising and unpredictable. His vision of Techno is deep and futuristic with a heavy dose of Funk. 

Dez's passion for sound and the darker side of the human spirit compels him to create tracks on an almost daily basis and  he sits on an incredibly vast archive of cassettes, mini-discs and CD's of his work. Yet his reclusive nature dictates that his release schedule remains sparse. His tracks can range from driving Techno, to melancholy and dark synthesizer orchestrations, ghostly deep listening, straight up Electro cuts and beyond. Sometimes simple, sometimes complex, within his sounds are vast amounts of detail for the listener to decipher. Emotions transmitted through mathematics and code. 

Williams' tracks have found their way into the sets of DJ's like Dave Clarke, Andrea Parker, Adam X, John Peel, Ellen Allien, Mike Dred, Rob Hall and many more.

He has constantly retained an underground / cult fanbase. His debut LP 'Elektronik Religion' for the SCSI label was hailed as "One of the very few truly great Electro albums of the new century". Dez remains true to the underground and simply creates for the love and need to do so. The mark of a true artist. 

He continues to DJ and play live sets worldwide and has had releases on a variety of record labels including  Bedouin, Earwiggle, Trust, Minimal Soul, Warmdata, Acruacree, Ai, Cheap, SCSI-AV, Blase, Voodoo, and Ben Sims' Native imprint.

"Fanzine Fest, the leading avant-garde Electronic music festival in the northwest of the Spanish peninsula, returned to the Coruña stages in December to position the city as the capital of a unique sound and visual experience.

The festival took place in 5 different locations in the city of A Coruña, with as many stages. Amongst them were the Planetarium of the House of Sciences, Cidade Vella, Domus, Sala O Túnel and the Luís Seoane Foundation.

A Coruña celebrated six days full of avant-garde Electronic music on the eighth edition of the festival that, for another year, brought together leading figure of Electronic music and visual arts at a national, international and Galician level."

The beginning of the PROEKT and the first release were in Moscow. Therefore, there is a good reason and important thing to start the New Year with the Moscow release. 

There is a lot to say about the Moscow scene — we decided to show it. We are so glad and excited to announce our 24th release and the first in 2023.

WAREHOUSE is Sergey Timashov's weekly party, which has been held at the Propaganda Club since 2010. It’s about techno, electro, acid and other related EDM styles. 

Sergey Timoshov is the founder of the movement, without which it is difficult to imagine Friday nights in Propaganda – WAREHOUSE.

His musical concentration and indefatigability, his high bar of demands quickly turned Friday night parties into an important word in the city's nightlife.

It is important to note that despite the formal current devotion to techno, a genre that finally declares itself as a truly club-dance, Sergei's sets now and then surprise listeners with various derivations and free digressions.

Though, I still continue to experiment with my sound and style, digging into fast-but-acid techno from time to time, my main style from the beginning has been groovy and dark electro with punchy breakbeat and breaks, which I present in this selection”

Releases on labels such as Clipp.art, Get Busy, Weird Nights, Resonance, and Dionysian Mysteries. Maria also hosts a regular radio show on @threadsradio and is 1/3 of the Bad Russian Bitchez “hot mom” trio.

Her production is marked by a cold, minimalistic driving energy and her DJ sets combine ghetto, electro and breaks. 

In 2021, CPSL and London-based producer Rico Casazza released their  Higher Form EP on Dionysian Mysteries. That same year she and Belarusian producer eng8 also released their split Void Freedom EP on Planetaria Music. Both EPs feature Maria’s signature electro and acid bass tracks. 

"5642”, Maria’s latest release for Detroit Underground, was inspired by her expeditions into the mountains. It was recorded solely using the Electron Analogue Four and delivers minimalistic atmospheric IDM.
