Already in 2009 Tyrone Noonan has wowed audiences in England, Ireland and Australia ....... now it’s New York’s turn. 

Tyrone Noonan co-fronted multi platinum-selling, No 1-charting Australian band george and is now ready to step up globally with his debut solo album I Believe. 

The story begins with george building a huge following from 1996 until 2005. The band’s first album Polyserena entered the Australian charts at No 1, going platinum within three weeks and remaining in the Top 10 for 15 weeks (double platinum), after releasing several successful indie EPs. 

george went forward releasing Unity in 2004, entering at No 5 (gold) on the Australian charts 
before going into hiatus, so members could pursue individual projects. 

For Tyrone, the first of these was Palimpsest, his debut jazz CD featuring a national tour, 
rave reviews and licensing for top UK Nu Jazz compilations, followed by Heavy Soul Part 1, 
released late 2006. The radio-friendly yet deeply personal mini-album featured the iTunes Single 
of the Week You Know.  

He toured extensively on the back of the release's success, including Peat’s Ridge and Woodford 
festivals. Audience reaction resulted in Tyrone  being invited to perform and sing the national 
anthem at Australia’s National Soccer Grand Final in Melbourne.

Australian music publication Beat Magazine said: “Heavy Soul Pt 1 is a solid offering for Noonan fans and a good enticer for those ready to discover him away from the safety net of george.” 

Jumping forward to 2010 and Tyrone is ready to follow up with the St Paul Peterson (Prince, Stevie Wonder, Steve Miller) co-produced I Believe. Mixed by Grammy-winning Steve Hodge, the album has been gaining praise from those who have heard the promos. 

Of the single contender Tight Black Dress, Emmis Communications’ VP of Programming Jimmy Steal said: “I really like it. Sticky hooks.” 

2010 includes a focus on developing the US market and returning to the UK  to follow up sellout 08-09 shows in London and build a presence on Europe’s festival circuit. 

I Believe encapsulates flawless US, UK and Australian influences. Think Lenny Kravtiz meets Coldplay.  It is an international record with limitless capabilities, fusing an evocative mix of pop, rock, soul, funk and reggae. 

Tyrone has performed to 1.8 billion (Rugby World Cup), conducted sell-out tours of Australia, UK, Ireland  and Japan, and supported world-class artists as diverse as Macy Gray, Jewel and Tori Amos. 


I Believe

Work in Progress.
Physical Model Piano (Pianoteq).  The idea was to utilise sequencer techniques that are impossible to perform on a "real" piano, such as very fast repeats and velocity changes.
The instrument is a single instance of Pianoteq in Cubase.  Various parameters of the are automated to change the physical characteristics of the instrument, eg length of the strings, hammer hardness and density of the soundboard.

A haunting music box theme which returned in various forms in the dark physical theatre piece 'Beneath the Floorboards' by White Wolf Theatre Company, Melbourne (2011).

Instrumentation: Soprano, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon, Horn in F, Piano

Inspired by Robert Shumann’s 200th birthday celebration, Multiples is a two movement work influenced by the composer’s two favourite personalities, the extrovert Florestan and introvert Eusebius. 

COMMISSIONED BY THE ALPHA CRUCIS ENSEMBLE, 2010 and premiered at the Bangalow Music Festival. These are live recordings from the premiere of the festival, courtesty of ABC Classical FM radio.

Movement 1: Jasmine Bush – extrovert in character – is inspired by the feelings of reflection as Schumann writes to his wife Clara asking her to remember their first kiss. The text is taken from the poem Jasminenstrauch by Friedrich Rückert and is quoted in a letter sent from Robert to Clara dated March 15, 1840.

From Robert to Clara:
“How did you feel after the first kiss, Klärchen? I’ll tell you how.”

Green was the jasmine bush
When it fell asleep in the evening
When the sunlight hit it
With morning’s breath
It woke up as white as snow
“What happened to me last night?”
See, that’s what happens to trees
That dream in spring.

“When I hear that song I always remember our first kiss.”

Multiples, Mvt 1: Jasmine Bush (chamber ensemble)

Collaborative performance between Bass Clarinet, Percussion, Electronic Track and delay. Recorded in 2008 at the QLD Conservatorium. The collaboration also included a street artist who responded to the sounds he heard on the night on a canvas.

Musicians: Percussion - Shane McPherson, Bass Clarinet - Alex Morris.

The summer solstice come and gone,
now the dark of the moon comes on.
The raging sun in his pale sky
has drunk the sap of the world dry.
Across the plains the dustwhirls run
and dust has choked the shrivelling tree.

This is my world that dies with me, 
cries the curlew in the night.
I have forgotten how the white
 birdfooted water in the creek
used in spring to call and speak.
All is fallen under the sun
and the world dies that once I made.

The strength that brandished my green blade,
the force uncoiling from the cell,
 drains like water from a wrecked well,
 says the dried out corn of the earth.
The seed I cherished finds no birth.

Now the dark of the world comes on.
