Russian based producer InLensk is on the cusp of releasing his debut Obratno EP though Nicolas Jaar's Other People imprint. The EP presents five finely etched and highly detailed rhythms that spark a close kinship to Autechre, Aphex Twin and other glitch orientated experimental producers. Ahead of the records release on 31st August 2015 we caught up with Gena to discover more about him and staccato produced rhythms.

Compilation of 8 sample tracks from the album Celestial Nile, composed between 1986-1990. An album of 4th World, electro-acoustic music from percussionist Jon Keliehor using wide ranging percussion, both exotic and primitive acoustic instruments. It was integrated into the 1990 choreographic work “El Jardin de los Misterios” and premiered at Teatro Teresa Carreno, Caracas for the Venezuelan dance company Danzahoy.

This is a long overdue collaboration and we couldn't be more excited to present a brand new EP from our man, Jena's mad scientist funk freak himself, Metaboman. A stalwart veteran of the legendary Musik Krause camp, which has been a kindred spiritual sister label of sorts of ours since the millennium-turn heydays, being fellow purveyors of bold and raw dance floor music, still brimming with new ideas galore and bucket loads of soul.

Here with the Wireless Dancer EP we have Metaboman in top form offering nothing less than his finest work: "Doppeldenk" starts things off with some classic Krause bump that brings to mind the heights of the Duo at their peak but updated, like an STL banger turned up to 11 with sinewy melodic lines and that special Thuringen twist. "Hanno" follows up with a guest spot by jazz saxophone master Thomas Prestin, and guarantees to bring down the house with a storm of swinging stabs, rough riffs, and fresh-as-it-gets drum work. On the flip, "Splitit" does exactly that, whether referring to wigs, legs, or that last drink ticket - where dusty blues vox chops and a rolling percussive smack down will revive any fading floor faces. And finally, "EchterG" rounds it all out nicely with the illest of atonal trips and subsonic bass tones that the finer sound systems out there will fully indulge. Leipzig-based KANN Records may celebrate a lot of jubilees this year. Celebrating a decade of music with a label showcase tour and a magnificent 15 track “Family Horror X” compilation, KANN’s kaleidoscopic musical journey through 2018  culminates with another gorgeous mini compilation. 
Deliciously titled “Banana Split”, it’s an impressive sonic display of well-crafted gems featuring exclusive originals by the label co-founder map.ache and other immensity talented artists such as Falke, DJ Assam and His Master’s Voice.
Faithful to KANN’s aesthetic credo of dance-floor techno hypnotism and striking intelligence, the German artist Jaines Bomt, also known as His Master’s Voice, makes an outstanding contribution to the compilation with a colorful “Oma”. From start to finish, it captures the listener and takes them on the imaginative journey through lush, multifaceted sonic landscapes filled with blissful melancholy and nostalgic chill wave. Reminiscent to Boards Of Canada and Tycho, the whole composition is driven along by a dreamy, spacey harmonies and dynamic layers of fuzzy guitars that meld together organically with a great sense of groove. “Oma” is a beautiful continuation of quality and an elegant extension to KANN’s sophisticated sound palette.

"Style" can be defined as that special ability to watermark every track with an instantly-recognizable identity.

Local Suicide, aka Munich's Brax Moody and Greek-born Vamparela, has it in spades. And following releases on labels such as Bordello, My Favorite Robot, Multi Culti, Roam, Duro and OMBRA, it only made sense that the duo would eventually find its way to Lumière Noire. 

After all, "black light" (as per the meaning of Chloé's label's name) could describe the way Local Suicide's music flirts with the more troubling zones of the listener's psyche, where danger roams and aural comfort is no longer a guarantee.

The EP's two tracks set a dark, shifty sonic tableau, in which German-American multidisciplinary artist – and a unique personality of the Berlin underground – Nicki Fehr comes to blend his voice with Vamparela's.

With its swerving bass slithering over a slow tempo, Leopard Gum is the perfect slow burner, a slice of comatose disco that will find its way to the darkest corners of nightlife – and haunt its DJ sets. The synths that come crashing across the track's Smagghe & Cross remix add their saturated signature that provide a different kind of hook through its breathless nine-minute run.

The same measured tempo is found once more on the more ethereal Already There, where Local Suicide affirm their adherence to the more captivating signatures of new wave and post disco. Permanent Vacation stalwarth Lauer adds a surprizing electro pop shimmer to the track, while Niv Ast's version maintains the tension of the original's superimposed vocals.

With Leopard Gum's opaque and impenetrable atmosphere, Local Suicide have released one of their strongest efforts to date.

“It’s always an honour and a big responsibility to put together a ‘Best Of’ mix for Emerald & Doreen. How to do justice to the spirit of this unique eclec-tronic label? Luckily it has such a consistent output within a voluminous catalogue that compiling and mixing my favourite tracks off its busy release schedule usually delivers a lively, colourful mix reflecting this ace German imprint's artistic freedom and unbridled diversity, a kind of restless, captivating sonic journey pieced together from a collection of pretty faultless tunes - not that a hard task with so many killer compositions and remixes to choose from.

This latest edition is no different, and actually suggests an even more exciting outcome as - believe it or not - a pattern of sound, almost a style, is emerging in Emerald & Doreen's international stable of artists/contributors (and beyond, to be truthful). Here and there in the old continent, and pretty much all over the globe, a ‘vintage' mood is building and coming to the fore in electronic music. More and more, DJs, producers, musicians are harping back to its very beginnings for inspiration, the late 70s, early 80s when expensive technological toys - effect units, synthesisers, drum machines, midi & sequencers, samplers… - started to take over in studios from the usual way of making records (musicians playing traditional instruments without a computer in sight). No wonder, this golden era of innocence and groundbreaking changes remains the ultimate reference, a precious time of discoveries, trials and errors (with  little defined formulas to cash in), which unequivocally shaped the future without any complexes and opened the door to worlds of imaginative developments.

And indeed a lot of the tracks in this Emerald & Doreen mix - many of them carefully re-edited, tightened up to seamlessly blend into each other and sustain attention - are rooted in the euro-disco and primal dancefloor experiments of yore. Call it ‘euro retro’ or what you like, there is a strong desire to re-define the present with a timeless sound whilst escaping the uniformisation of most of today's productions by going back to basics, back to the original sounds and machines which paved the way for electronic disco and dance. Arpeggiated basslines, robotic grooves, huge gated claps & snares, evocative analog synths, cinematic landscapes... there's drama in the air and the thundering repetitive sequences that keep you grooving and swaying are unequivocal, the offsprings of the greatest producers of yesteryear are truly alive and kicking. 

2019 is looking good - at least from a musical point of view. For decades American disco has been the dominating force - and for good reason - the landmark, the start of it all, however it feels timely for Europe and its clubbing legacy to finally get the accolades it duly deserves. At long last it is acknowledged and appreciated that Europe and its electronic blueprints contributed massively to laying the foundations of modern electronic dance music. Today it is feeding again a whole new generation of producers hungry for quality and authenticity, and that truly can only be a great thing."
