Big love to all the regular listeners we have reached the half way point of series 5. FOCUS is back with another guest mix this time around we have CASTE in the spotlight AKA Kevin Ward. Kev used to run a label called Urban Dynamikz with Kurrupt, I have managed to attend a fair few T&BD&B events which is where I caught a couple sets from Kev alongside his son who is also a DJ and goes by the name BLAWDZ.

CASTE has also performed a set at the popular Swindon Music Festival in the past and I decided to ask him a few months back if he would like to get involved with the series to which he obliged.

FOCUS 054 - CASTE

About this mix:
(2/3) I was blown away by the support for my last mix and your comments/private messages. Ranging from “I related to this” to “I felt your emotions in this one” to, sadly, “I can’t listen to this because it’s too real for me at the moment”. So, I decided to turn this into a short series.

I made this mix to reconnect with myself a bit more. That’s probably why it’s so spicy/sassy as that spark starts to return. Reclaiming a sense of self. Feeling empowered by new opportunities. Learning the true value of myself. Not needing validation to prove that anymore. Giving myself permission to glow up. Cutting off things that harm progress or focus. Stepping up this time and taking some chances. Here’s to growth. 

There’s a couple of vulnerable moments in there (notably around 10 minutes, 50 secs). But most of that side has been firmly locked away now. Throw away the key to that and focus on your ambitions and success, I say. No more settling anymore. There’s ladders to climb. And barriers to shatter.

More of my voice notes, more calm and confidence than chaos this time; but just as much creativity. That final voice note at the end - I knew I had to put that one in. For sure. Heartbreak is temporary but humour is forever.

This is the second in a wider series of three. Now, for the third one? Well, I’d like this story to have a happy ending. So whether that’s someone new, further opportunities or divine, impactful growth in general, I’ll know when it’s time.
