By posing the question Are we on the run?, PRG/M explores a variety of spacey frequencies through this EP which comes in February on Mnestic Records. It includes four original tracks along with a remix from Mod21, and we are happy to bring you in contact with the release through the premiere of Here We Come. The composition starts with blasting warps and syncopated faders to announce the journey's beginning of those who come from far beyond. Its structure is further enhanced with otherworldly bleeps and sparks, resembling parts of the vast, chaotic, and dark vacuum surrounding our full-of-life planet. The track blooms with radiating cosmic energy while maintaining a light atmosphere in its duration and filtering itself with futuristic layers and outlines as a signal of the upcoming arrival.

PREMIERE: PRG/M - And This Is The Well (Mod21 Remix) [Mnestic Records]

Camera Magmatica co-founder Prg/m and fellow Italian artist Neel come together for Mirabilis, a new EP that fuses ambient tones and techno flavours. Five tracks come on the vinyl 12", plus two digital bonuses.

Camera Magmatica calls back on board Neel, after the experimental outing cassette he curated some years ago. He is of course a revered sonic sculptor who works as one-half of Voices From the Lake on labels like Token Records, Spazio Disponibile and Spectrum Spools. He ended 2022 on a high with his EP The 808 Archive on Non-Series, and now continues that form in 2023. Prg/m, meanwhile, is a musician, live act and multimedia artist who also has a highly crafted sound that is rich in immersive pads and deconstructed rhythms. As well as working solo, he has collaborated as r²π with his label co-founders Retina.it and Ruhig while also releasing on Semantica, Midgar and Concrete Rec amongst others.

This new EP continues the Napoli Arcana vinyl series and pays homage to the mystic Neapolitan region. Mirabilis in particular is dedicated to the Piscina Mirabilis site that was constructed in the 1st century AD when Augustus was Emperor. It was an enormous reservoir at the end of the Aqua Augusta or Aqueduct of August and it provided drinking water for Naples and the Roman fleet.

'Idra' opens up in a cavern with water droplets and sonic ripples sketching out the vast size of the space. Atmospheric drones make for an increasingly heavy atmosphere as deep sub bass moves things forwards and spoken word snippets arrive with thoughts on climate change. 'Priapo' immediately sinks you into a deep and weighty techno rhythm that is loopy, organic and hypnotic in equal measure. It's sparse yet tense and leads into 'Misenensis' (Neel Version), an edgy sound world where unresolved drum loops rock backward and forwards with ambient pads and icy sounds layered to eerie effect. 'Mitra' is another smooth, heady techno rhythm that suspends you in space and time and 'Mirabilis' resets with two minutes of ambient that sounds like it was recorded at the earth's core with molten lava slowly flowing all around you.

The digital-only track 'Misenensis' (PRGM Version) is rubbery techno with gloopy drums and bass, pulsing synths. It builds with the tension of approaching danger as if an eruption is just about to come, then the second digital cut 'Leone' carries you away on another wave of serene and cerebral techno that is brought to life deft sound design.

This is an artful exploration of high-concept techno that works as well up close on headphones as it does in a darkened club space.

Based out of Leipzig, Germany, the newly established 2022 techno label releases their digital and 12” vinyl album 'Are We on the Run?' with 5 hypnotically-deep tracks. 

The 2-sided album features PRG/M (aka Pier Mariconda) on side A1 with his dark flare of ambient sounds using immersive pads, and deconstructed rhythmics that is subdued. 

Side A2 also features a remix of “And This Is the Well” from none other Mod21 (aka Manuele Chiaravallot) where his remix gives the effect of a synthesized-sounding groan tube combined with varying degrees of basslines - all of which is ambient in nature.

Neel and PRG/M join forces for Mirabilis, the next vinyl chapter on Camera Magmatica. March 17th, three days before the official release, we are delighted to present one of the main tracks, Priapo. "Separating" itself from the rest with its temperament, a well-received "bouncy" percussion. The uplifting motif further solidifies the overall purpose using quirky echoes and vibrations that produce a hypnotic resonance as the repetitive pumping draws all the elements around. These, then, perform in balance and perfect sync, while the chimes in the background delicately provide an organic take on the composition. Creatively, it seems that each producer had enough room for individual expression without overstepping each other's boundaries. To conclude, Priapo highlights a fine example of stability and equality on both a compositional and personal level. In addition, we had a quick talk with Neel and PRG/M about the upcoming release, which you can find below.

PRG/M - Tubolara

This track was part of a very special release (catalogued as “BWL000”) released digitally and on vinyl in a very limited edition. A single side Ep screen-printed on the non engraved side with a suggestive image of the sea of “Capalbio”, a town intimately connected with the rise of Blackwater Society. 
The Ep was be initially presented at the 2016 edition of the FLUSSI FESTIVAL where Blackwater began its music journey in 2014.
