Bursting into 2021 with the hope and positive energy we all need, Spectrum present an absolute juggernaut of a track...

Blinding by name. Blinding by nature. Fresh from major missives on the likes of Crosstown Rebels, Circus, Saved and Relief and heavyweight collaborations with the likes of Pete Tong, Alex Kennon makes his debut on Joris Voorn's Spectrum with this rolling juggernaut anthem that joins the dots between the 2000s and 2020s, house and techno, clubs and festivals and all shades of lockdown jadedness in between. It's his most personal release to date, and one that has already found favour with Kolsch, who made an early version a regular set favourite.

''Blinding Lights' is for me not just a record, it's a melting pot of emotions through music, a kind of time machine taking me from the early 2000's to today. I was overjoyed when Joris said he wanted the track for his own label Spectrum. His remix and take on the track will make this project very special, an intimate perspective from a great artist and musician like himself combined with a track I am very proud of.'

An inspired slab of emotional electronic music that nods in all directions and comes with that great sense of momentum and surprise, both Alex's original and Joris's remix hit spots we forgot existed. Lighter times are coming and music like this will be our soundtrack.

Saint Evo's 'Tuhan' is the third single from the upcoming Africa Gets Physical Vol. 4 compilation, mixed by Thandi Draai. 

Saint Evo hails from Kajiado County in Kenya, which is home to the famed Maasai people. He is an energetic DJ and producer who is recognised as one of the pioneers of Afro-house in East Africa. Testament to that is being ranked number 8 on the Traxsource Top 100 Afro House producers chart and many vital releases on reputable labels from Africa, Europe and North America. He runs his own Celsius Degree Records, often collaborates with notable vocalists from around the Southern Hemisphere and imbues his music with authentic and proudly African narratives. 

'Tuhan' is a modern classic. An epic house journey steeped in Afro traditions. The rooted drums roll deep, while the spiritual vocal awakens your every sense and speaks to your soul. Add in the well-crafted, late-night synths which bring warmth and colour and you have a tune that cannot fail to sweep up any crowd.

On this special cover remake Space Motion builds all its synth sounds from scratch, using modern mix technics to bring out the main chord theme riff like no other version of Jaguar was able to do it. Label debut of a rising afro house star: Animalic Drum will surprise the world with 'Amigdala EP', composed by 5 marvelous tracks. 'Sell my heart' features the sharp romantic voice of Bobbi Fallon, warm piano chords and a resolute rhythm. Hot on the heels of Helsloot's superb 'Let's Pretend' single in April come two new remixes of it by Tube & Berger and Saint Evo.

Helsloot's original was quickly picked up by an array of DJs and dropped in a number of great sets. It was the latest in a string of fresh singles from the Dutch DJ and the extended mix is included again here. It is a hypnotic and rolling house tune with lush chords that bring plenty of cosmic vibes.

First to remix it are German mainstays and Kittball Records founders Tube & Berger. This pair has amassed over 100 million streams to their name, have scored a number of Beatport Top 5 hits and are regulars at leading parties like ANTS in Ibiza and the legendary Tomorrowland. Their take on 'Let's Pretend' is a light and airy, disco-tinged and bouncy house cut. The scintillating chords bring light, a steamy vocal layers in the soul and the whole thing takes you into another dime nsion.

Saint Evo is the founder of Celsius Degree Records and hails from the savannah plains of Kajiado County, the home of the famed Maasai people. He is a pioneer of the Afro house sound in East Africa and has collaborated with a multitude of producers and vocalists from across the globe. Here he remixes 'Let's Pretend' into a chunky groove with delicate synths and starry-eyed melodies. The percussion brings rich Afro house vibes and the vocals become spiritual chants that cast a majestic spell.

This is a vital package that brings some fresh new influences to the great original from Helsoot.

Blanka Mazimela has curated the latest Africa Gets Physical album, Volume 3, which is due for release this summer, but before that come the first EP taken from it.

Cape Town's Blanka Mazimela has appeared on the label a number of times in the last couple of years. His ‘Phezulu’ track was a big tune on Get Physical that also got some standout remix treatment, helping make him one of the standout crop of African's the label has been showcasing. His upcoming compilation will be further testament to that, and is littered with superb singles like these.

SKJ features on 'Ziduli Zetafa', the opening track and one that immediately sinks you into a brilliant South African house vibe, with its earthy drums, gentle tribal chanting and lush melodies all soothing the soul. 'I Made Mistakes' calls on the vocal work of Korus and ups the ante, with a more propulsive, driving house groove. Sci-fi effects take this one into another dimension but it still has perfectly thoughtful and emotive chords underneath the heart swelling vocals. Last of all is Blanka Mazimela feat. Korus & Sobantwana with 'Gcwanini', a skipping afro beat with heart aching
vocals and melancholic chords all making a striking impact.

This is a transportive house EP full of flavour and a fine taster of the upcoming album.
