Öona Dahl delivers her debut EP on Watergate, continuing her fruitful partnership with Dance Spirit along the way.

Last year’s memorable WhoMadeWho compilation saw Öona Dahl drop her first musical contribution on Watergate, collaborating with Dance Spirit for ‘Break The Stillness’, one of the highlights of the mix. The New York producer, DJ and sound designer, has cultivated a curious and evocative sound going back almost a decade, releasing quality cuts on Anjunadeep, Hallucienda (home to her 2017 album ‘Hollograma’) and All Day I Dream, where she has become a regular at Lee Burridge’s iconic party series.

‘Godtripper’ is a transcendental trip through psychedelic house tones, elevated by Dahl’s own breathy vocal and subtle swells of acid and a smooth melody line. Patrice Bäumel adds a delicious re-work built around a superb bass melody that builds to a crescendo, as layer-upon-layer reveals itself throughout. Dahl links with Dance Spirit for ‘Manic Space’, led by a delicate layer of tribal drums and a meandering melody line, crafted for sundown moments. ‘Universe Within You’ is one for the after hours, wrapped in a minimal shell it unfurls gradually into a glowing late morning house gem, resplendent in golden synths and groovy drums.

Award-winning music producer and live performer Rodriguez Jr. also known as Olivier Mateu returns to his spiritual home here at mobilee, following up from the acclaimed album “Blisss” with a brand new EP that delivers a transcendental state with such an emotion that we can honestly say is unique to this very special artist.

We are proud to present “Hydra EP”. The lead track “Hydra” immediately transports into Rodriguez Jr.’s alternate universe of swelling synths and distinctive melodies that stay in your psyche for a very long time. As with most of Olivier’s tracks, it can be enjoyed as much inside headphones for a needed escape, as in a club, or at sunrise on a Brittany mountain, where he showcased the track for the first time in his recent live stream with BOLDR. The key changes and evolving soundscape delight within any space and at every level, in a sound that is pure Rodriguez Jr., which will delight long-time fans and new alike.

Finishing the EP, “Pegasus” sets its signature with a piano trill, thrilling fans who well know Rodriguez Jr’s relationship with this instrument. Crafted in his Paris studio, rhythmic synthesisers, ethereal pads and a tender bassline join the soundscape to create the setting for a tantalising melody to take the heart strings of the listener on a special journey which is, at 7 minutes, entirely too short.

Following on from his collaboration with Eric Horstmann´s Immersive Lab and Dolby Atmos for “Blisss”, “Hydra EP” has also been re-mastered for a multi-dimensional experience. Dolby Atmos technology expands on existing surround sound sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects. Tim Engelhardt's 2020 album 'Idiosynkrasia' felt cinematic in form and orchestral in structure, catalysing deep breaths, reflection and a different way of thinking by way of its genre-bending narrative. Now, some of the long-players most precious and tender moments get reinterpreted by a stellar cast of artists, no doubt with the intimate physicality of dancing bodies in mind. The result is a killer package of three versatile cuts that, while each setting a contrast to their source material, amplify different sides of a feeling Tim's work naturally encapsulated – the flow-state. 

Melodic luminary Rodriguez Jr. reimagines the album's introspective opener 'Attached' as a progressive masterclass of deeply engulfing bass, gently cascading synths and hopeful piano variations, showcasing his one-of-a-kind grasp of subtle euphoria. In andhim's hands, the title-track 'Idiosynkrasia' then gets the b-boy treatment as the duo beef-up the original's breakbeat-driven lowend and flip Tim's idiosyncratic melodies on their head by adding a healthy dose of funk. Last but not least, Sam Shure strips 'Touch the Sky' of its organic feel, expertly rethreading Hannah Noelle's stunning vocals into a pressure-cooker of a club track.
