Alan Spinoso - Way To The Abyss (Andrés Moris Remix)

Following the massive success of Omniverse, which saw support from some of the biggest names in the scene and reached the Beatport progressive house Top 10, Second Sine returns to Yomo Records with a stunning 3-track EP.

I Was There is a driving progressive gem featuring Andrej's signature sounds including heavy percussion, techy stabs, and atmospheric textures atop an irresistible groove.

Tape Wreck is even more on the techy side of the genre and immediately grabs you with its rolling bassline and cavernous synth stabs. The break with its haunting, complex harmonies allows you to take a little breather before the pounding beats drop back in again.

Within My Heart once again showcases Second Sine's immens production skills. With its lush, almost housey chords and sprinkles of reversed saxophone the track is a deeper affair, yet with enough punch to keep you going on the dancefloor.

As passionate as he is talented, Imran Khan returns to Meanwhile with a second original EP in the shape of “Equinox”.

A growing portfolio of tracks on an array of esteemed imprints has seen Imran Khan’s reputation grow steadily since a 2017 debut on Massive Harmony Records. With a distinctive deep and powerful sound that has gone on to see him feature on the likes of Clinique, Particles and Proton Music, the UK star admits, “I love making electronic music”.

A pair of remixes for GMJ & Matter’s “Lost on Origin” represented a Meanwhile debut in April 2020, while February 2021’s “Push Thru / Horizonz” was another notable highlight, showcasing Khan’s craftsmanship with an original EP debut. Now returning with a second offering, the three-track “Equinox” is another masterful addition to the Meanwhile catalogue.

Opening proceedings, the title track glitters in a velvety night sky where pinpricks of melodic light illuminate a cavernous bassline. White-noise pans in gentle waves across the stereo spectrum as thickly stratified pads join forces in synthesised union. A true force of nature erupts in symmetrical brilliance where “Equinox” delivers a timeless masterpiece.

Full of groove-inspired character, “Generator” builds a new powerline. Heavy bass sequences spawn a heady concoction of low-end energy that revolves in perpetual cycles. Rhythmic dynamism develops in hypnotic patterns as subtle synth motifs are charged by rib-cracking kick and syncopated vitality.

Rhythmic intricacy and poise form “In My Head” where popping percussion delivers a vibrant framework that fizzes with brio and intensity. Pulsating waves of sound vibrate in aural synchronicity around ethereal vocal touches, and gentle melodic juxtaposition revolves around a heady mixture of exquisite suspense that represents a new conduit for machine-generated sounds.

Through beautiful sonic symmetry where rhythm and melody are balanced with immaculate precision, a new “Equinox” emerges from the brilliant mind of Imran Khan.

Roaring to life as knight and day collide in an explosion of sound and colour, a new nirvana emerges. The stars shimmer over the Melkweg and rippling arpeggios take Shelter on the north side before analogue synth motifs find a sweet spot in the Sugarfactory. Imperceptible melodies fade away on the still night air, anchored to their rhythmic foundations that are infused with history and aural narrative.

Being a name, that’s been seen more frequently the past 6 months, he now brings on another top notch production with us on PHW, called “Serene”.The youngsters true talent to build melodic hooks shines through here, when he unleash this melodic monster.On remix duty, you will face 3 different remixes from friends around us. First up is a newcomer on PHW but definitely not on the progressive house scene. Being a part of the well-known producing act Answer42, it is with great pleasure that we have tied up a pure mint production from the always stunning Nap’Till Nine, also the owner of the great Dutch label NRG Dance Records.He brings on some fabulous chopped vocals, a groovier rhythm and an overall tasty interpretation with great textures and smooth harmonies built together, stunning work.The 2nd remix comes from returning artist and someone we are truly happy we gave a shoot some time ago when signing his first record deal to our record label, PHW. Nico Schinco is a name that is here to stay, we are so certain of that and we will continue to have him on the label and help him build his reputation. With his crisp sound design, this time with great pads and super smooth plucks, he takes on Jordans original and builds a great re-take of some of the ideas to his own, we are hooked.The 3rd and final remix comes from another young producer, based in the US. Adam Dopierala, more known from his Airdrop alias, has joined us to bring his touch on this magic ride. We can’t say anything less than that we feel he has succeeded without a doubt.Bringing on the full artillery of melodic hooks and arpeggios, he for sure gives us a great journey here. Sound Quelle makes his return on Enhanced Progressive with a massive double header - 'Nulla / Laguna'.
 
Following his last release, 'In The Morning' from summer 2013, ‘Nulla’ is also a summer inspired track with Balearic vibes throughout. A lyrical bassline and guitar play melody to this playful piece of progressive.
 
'Laguna' is more energetic with its harder and faster kicks. The breakdown however is host to beautiful piano riffs and filtered synth plucks which build up to a fantastic, melodic drop.

Both huge names in the progressive house genre, Alex O’Rion & Ezequiel Arias join forces for a debut on Meanwhile as the GMJ & Matter led imprint celebrates its 34th release with “Solis”. Two further solo tracks from Alex O’Rion complete the musical picture.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

The headline track is thus a powerful reminder of the combined talent of the Dutch and Argentinean pairing as “Solis” powers forward with chest-thumping kick and sublime bassline groove. Clave percussive flourishes add a summery vibe to proceedings as a filtered synth line gradually comes to the fore, mirroring the bassline foundation. Gently evolving across the 6-minute piece, a free-flowing synth line wends its way across the melodic collage while a beatless breakdown creates the perfect opportunity for a variation in the cadenced chord progression. Hitting its stride once more in the second half, “Solis” is a timely reminder of the silky-smooth skills and unrivalled craftsmanship of the talented duo.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

The final piece finds “Sericum” proving an apposite title as a smooth-roasted bass groove sits below deep kick and cavernous sub-bass pattern. A shuffling hi-hat top line provides subtle urgency as a mellifluous synth line flows like honey as the track reaches its mid-point. A reverb-soaked lead line adds harmonic variation as a vibrant breakdown creates the perfect moment of reflection. The rhythmic melange once again hits its mark again in the second half, accompanied by the array of opulent melodic elements introduced earlier in the piece.

“Through “Solis”, Alex O’Rion and Ezequiel Arias burn brightly in a stunning array of iridescent aural colour.
