An experiment in guitar tone turned into a cover of Lamb of God's sludgy intro track Straight For The Sun.

Maybe I just need an Axe FX. 

This was using a Line6 POD HD and a cheap (but awesome) Ibanez Gio 6-string baritone. The bass is a big part of the tone. I used a cheap (but awesome) Ibanez Soundgear direct-in with no amp modeling and a heavily distorted, mid-heavy parallel channel.

Tuning is G#FA#D#GC ... not sure if that's the exact tuning he used, but it's probably close since it was really easy to play this. Definitely an interesting one.

I'm in love with the new At The Gates album and I thought I'd try covering the title track today. It might be a bit sloppy, but it was just a one day recording exercise.

A few years ago I saw the trailer for this Fulci Italian horror film from 1981 and the title music struck me. Particularly the aesthetic. A few weeks ago I decided to finally try covering it.

Originally it was going to be a straight metal cover but I realized that I would lose the aesthetic. So I brought in the synths, organs, and choir, as well as mixed it to sound a bit more like the source than a modern mix.

An original with long time collaborator Andy Shinn. Though before this we hadn't recorded anything together for at least 3 years. This was a fun weekend project! Otherwise I would have gone kayaking...
