This second attempt is a track that shows songs just do what they want to do. I was going for something ambient, but it turned into something rather more aggressive and hard as it went along — kind of at odds with the Chiangmai synth. I just went with it, and like the way this one builds. Lots of really interesting custom patches, too.

In all there are 12 tracks in this one, several just to boost the signal for certain track types. The bleeping background riff from the start is one, three are used for the bass drum and two for the snare; one additional track is used for a hi-hat later on. Other than that, there are three layers of bass raps and two tracks for a melody around the half-way point.

Competitor Chiangmai (Project Noise) _02_

A dark, moody and progressive piece of electronics, created in Korg Gadget. This one's all about the atmosphere, with bass loops swirling in the background, and rhythmic leads swapping in and out, before the beat kicks in.

From a technical standpoint, there are 13 tracks here, all using custom patches (apart from some of the drums). Two Chicago synths provide the initial bass raps, and Dublin's used for the simple bass line that runs throughout. Helsinki, Brussels and Chiangmai are the three leads. Chiclago's used for a background arp and sawtooth effect. Finally, three London synths provide the drums, apart from the initial bass drum, which is two overlaid Chiangmai synths.

He Dislikes Spikes (Korg Gadget experiment)

A bit of explanation here, since this is different from the usual stuff on this feed. Our six-month-old was being restless but seemed interested in the iPhone, so I opened Novation Launchpad. What you see here is done entirely without my interference, with her at some point hitting record, activating various loops, and a few minutes later hitting record again to stop the music.

So Novation Launchpad is apparently so easy to work with, even a six-month-old can create some music!

It's been a couple of months since I uploaded anything, although I've still been writing music. (Mini-G and life has rather taken over.)

So here's a piece I wrote last night, after getting immersed once again in the wonderful Chiangmai Korg Gadget synth.

Craig Grannell aka Project Noise is a writer and musician, working nearish to Londonish. He first started tinkering with music in his teens and has since composed hundreds of songs, ranging from often atmospheric electronic pop through to noisy soundscapes.

He's currently infatuated with taking weird little acoustic guitar loops and smashing them into retro-infused clockwork pop songs. Well, that and Korg Gadget.
