We’re very proud to present here the first of two legendary ‘lost’ albums both previously available only as rare-as-hen’s teeth private presses, from one Samuel K. Mfojo, the man known as Rim Kwaku Obeng.
As well as heralding the arrival as solo artist of an exciting new drummer, the title of his 1977 debut, Rim Arrives, also makes reference to the long struggle Kwaku had in getting to that point. To say that he ‘paid his dues’ is an understatement!

Back in the early 1990s house music was having perhaps its most fertile and creative period. The original house from Chicago had blown up back in the ‘80s and left nothing short of a cultural revolution in its wake, with regional variants springing up all over the US, the UK and Europe.
London in particular was a global hub for house music, with a whole slew of clubs and a long established underground scene that had taken house to its heart. A key mover-and- shaker was a young Jeremy Newall, who worked successively at a whole bunch of record stores including Catch-A-Groove, where the likes of Tony Humphries would come and hang out when in town (Humphries used to record his shows at a flat above the shop with a wide-eyed Jeremy soaking in the vibes), and latterly Release The Groove, where he could be found well into the twenty-first century. A close association with Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson saw him repping for the big fella when Trouble was unable to do his Kiss FM radio show, and as the resident alongside him at Trouble’s much loved Loft Sessions in Camden. He also played on many pirates, at all the best parties in London, Europe and beyond. Jeremy’s position as the go-to guy behind the capital’s hippest record store counters saw many visiting US jocks passing him records that barely saw the light of day in a scene where superb new tunes were coming thick and fast. Therein lie the roots of this compilation ... a collection of overlooked, unreleased, and just hard-to-find gems to put alongside some of the better-known and overplayed classics of the era.

New Zealand born singer, SACHA VEE is known for a voice beyond her years. Channeling a mix between Jill Scott and Erykah Badu this international star on the rise will keep you doing double takes as you try and work out how such a voice can emerge from this friendly kiwi girl from down under. Her majestic sound and quality productions have recently been released by UK music heavyweights BBE Records (J.Dilla, Will.I.Am and Bilal) and her songwriting skills are now sought after for collaborations all over the world.
The most successful collaboration to date has been with Polish Hip hop legend O.S.T.R, with whom she has three hit singles, 2 x Double Platinum albums and over 20million views on youtube. O.S.T.R. is a strong believer in Sacha's vocal ability, "Mary J Blige is my all time favourite singer, and then I heard Sacha's voice...". Other project highlights have included working with Benny Tones "Chrysalis" (BBE), K+Lab "Need to Know", State of Mind "Black Raven" & INT (NL) "Love Me Up". In 2012 Sacha made it through to the top 10 finalists of the widely loved talent show The Voice of Holland.
Currently esiding between New Zealand & Amsterdam, Sacha's latest body of work, "Rising One” EP (BBE Records, 2015) blends the earthy roots of her background of Jazz & Soul with the raw elements of hip hop & electronic pop. To get the sound she was after she worked with dutch producers Killing Skills and Chef Red and explored areas of her incredible range, playful attitude and engaging fresh lyrical content to deliver us an impressive taste of whats to come. The first single from the EP "Hey Sugar" reached a wide audience and featured remixes from INT, Mr Bird & Sumsuch.

It's fair to say that veteran Portland rapper Vursatyl has been making major waves of late, with praise and support for his 'Crooked Straights' coming from Kenny Dope, Okayplayer, 2DopeBoyz & Urb magazine among many others. Off the back of a world tour supporting the mighty Blackalicious and in response to popular demand, we've decided to press two very special new remixes on strictly limited 7" vinyl.
First up, NY legend DJ Spinna lends his deft, soulful touch to 'I Got It', which summons up memories of the golden era with its deft, conscious lyrics and jazzy, off-kilter beats. On the flipside, underground stalwart Jake One takes control, serving up a fiery version of tongue-twisting lyrical missile 'Bring It To A Halt' with a side order of heavy drums and clinical cuts from DJ Flip Flop.

Perception Productions, a New York based label that ran from the late 60s through until 1974, was a strangely eclectic affair. Its roster stretched from a radical Afro-American poet through to the pop band King Harvest whose hit ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ became a massive hit for the UK band Toploader a couple of decades later. The inbetween points covered jazz, funk, vocal harmony soul and proto-disco. In fact distilled down into this compilation the label provides us a view of Manhattan’s black music scene of the period, from the established greats to the fresh young things who would make their mark in the coming years. The two men who ran the label, President Terry Phillips and Boo Frazier burned brightly for that half a decade before almost entirely disappearing from the music scene.
