A school final project asked me to think about my cases, case presentations, classes I’ve taken in the past and in this program, past jobs, and anything and everything inbetween. There was no doubt I would write a song. I thought about myself as a learner, a researcher, a clinician, and a person. My theoretical orientation is influenced by what I have read and heard in class, out of class, my culture, traditions, and spiritual beliefs which guide much of my thinking processes almost instinctually. Sometimes these align with choice of interventions discussed in cases in class, and sometimes they do not. 

I have struggled to come to terms with the fact that it is impossible to suppress those values of my culture that have inherently been taught to me since birth. Nevertheless, I am striving to develop my own sense of self amidst these often clashing perspectives. I now understand it is okay to be vulnerable; it is actually preferred. It is okay to admit my faults and insecurities, because ultimately, those allow me to be empathetic and compassionate. Without my negative experiences, I would not understand risk and resilience. 

In my song, I write about many interacting concepts. We are all flawed. We are not looking to fix someone, although we may feel like we have to or want to. We are not standing in front of someone pulling them or behind them pushing them, but beside them, taking steps with them. A few other themes I write about include: confronting fears of the unknown, embracing the unknowns and mysteries of life, and understanding and taking responsibility for our biases and judgments. Trusting the process is a concept learned from experience and time.

Two of my favorite songs: Cosmic Gate's "Be Your Sound" + Dash Berlin's "Better Half of Me." My first go at a medley and hoping to get better at transitioning and whatnot, but hope that you guys like it. 

Emma Hewitt's definitely one of my favorite trance vocalists. Beautiful voice, beautiful all-around. Seeing Dash Berlin at the Hollywood Palladium 2.24.2012 was one of the best shows I've ever been to, and having the chance to see Johnathan Mendelsohn live was incredible too. 

I want to dedicate this song to all the friends in my EDM circle. Thank you for the music, for the dancing, hanging out at the shows, house parties, everything, I love you guys and I know that 2012 will be another amazing year filled with lots of EDM madness.

Two of my father and I's most favorite songs. 
I am lucky to have been blessed with his vocal genes and because of him, I learned to appreciate all types of music. 
His birthday is today, August 22nd, and I recorded this medley for him and even though he lives far, far away from me in China, I hope that he can always hear my voice no matter where he is.
