Building his name and reputation up through regular releases with the likes of Hip Dozer, Inner Ocean, Aviary Bridge, Cascade Records, Handbook has built up a loyal fanbase, accrued significant champions on BBC Radio 1, KCRW, across French college radio, and boasts multiple tracks with many millions of streams to their name on the major streaming platforms... 

In his debut full length for the label he brings his already popular sonic palette of warm, tasteful, and reflective grooves, but stretches his artistic horizons with a plethora of analogue synths, organic elements and some definite nods to electronica, despite remaining firmly in beats territory.  

Deliberately opting for an upbeat tone and positive feel across the album tracks, he worked with Maschine and Ableton - drawing inspiration from film scores, Madlib’s recent album ‘Sound Ancestors’, and the process of resampling his own work. His creation process operating entirely ‘in the box’ might be a surprise to some who hear the record due to his fondness for organic sounds and analogue warmth, it could well have been a vintage console recorded to tape.

Slow Waves is a collection of multi-layered memories, stacked like grainy polaroids in an old box in the closet or under the bed while the colours fade. A young Rob at the beach or on his first day of grammar school. Images of travels across Europe and Japan, moments slipping in trains or planes while landscapes pass by. Memories so unique to his life, yet so similar to the fading memories of youth and adolescence we all have...

After a series of well acclaimed EP’s, each of them created at very specific moments in the artists life, @submerse took the time and sat down to reflect and convert all these memories into his first full length album on Project: Mooncircle.

'Slow Waves' comes out worldwide on limited double vinyl, limited handmade and handpainted cassette edition (both including download code) as well as a limited edition CD including a bonus track via @flaurecords in Japan.

'Push’ sees the bridging of two minds, a spontaneous event of shared loops, ideas and vision. My Panda Shall Fly (@mpsf) & Mau’lin (@maulin) join creative forces giving birth to five abstract free-form compositions. Having followed each others work for some years, the pair found themselves in an East London studio first commencing a sonic dialogue just days before Christmas.

Each track breathing a new life; a conventional genre is hard to pin down. Fusing elements of neo-jazz, broken house and down-tempo ambient, resulting as an eclectic product of unforeseen joint creativity. 

Opening track ‘Sea Beast’ heralds entrance into a murky journey through time and space. With jilted, broken keys drizzled upon a throbbing bassline a distant moan finds its way through dense textures. ‘Red’, eases up tightened bolts, it lifts a hazy smog with its loose, almost 'Buddha Lounge’ melodies. A poly-rhythmic venture of crossing synths, snares and percussion each teasing the other in & out. Taking you into a videogame-like realm, ‘Gingerbread House’ summons intrigue with a conflict of virtuous and sinister emotives. Its minimal pulsing bass line transports an ethereal synth with playful bleeps and shuffling stirs. Calling in Irish outfit Lakker (@Lakker), they instinctively gravitate towards the more organically moulded ‘15Keys’. Dismembering a canon of cascading marimbas and chromatic percussions they splice and reconstruct it into a euphoric slow burner. Marking the last leg of an enchanted journey, ‘I’ finds its dance-floor energy in swelling melodies and a confident staccatoed bass gifted with sharp hi-hats & breaks. Twinkling keys descend as if embossing a newly-cleared night sky with falling stars. 

Devoid of preconceived concepts, MPSF & Mau’lin have managed to bind together their own musical idiosyncrasies creating an EP of seductive suspense and intelligent textures.

 Memoosh’ is the collaborative project between William Yates (@memotone) and Soroosh Khavari (@Soosh).&#13;
Without any pre-planning, the project started to grow and develop a life of its own as soon as the first session started. Over the course of more than eight weekends spread over a year, the two visited each other for recording sessions, not relying on modern modes of communication. Making all the music in person to keep to the collaborative nature of the project, leaving more room for improvisation and opportunity to jam out all their ideas.&#13;

The album is a mixture of live instrumentation (guitars, piano, cello, zither, drums, clarinet, synths and numerous others) coupled with effect boxes, samplers, vocals and field recordings, influenced by everything from random static and buzz, to a beautiful early morning rain or the bass thud of a closing door. The whole album being more an exploration of their approach rather than anything conceptually thematic, representing both characters and personalities in the music.&#13;

“To be honest, had we not been asked by Project Mooncircle to make the album we probably would never have met to make music. Thankfully they did ask! And it has been a very fruitful conquest. Not only has the album created music we are proud of, but in it’s construction it created a new and lasting friendship.“&#13;

‘This album is all about ebbs and flows. It’s been a very interesting few years to say the least, both personally and in terms of the world. I always kept coming back to the concept of Tides, the cyclical nature of everything and the way sadness gives way to happiness… and vice versa. It all works out in the end though… and regardless of what’s happening, the sea is still there, a constant in the madness.’

Working closely with string arranger Thomas Lea (Adele/Bonobo/Rhye), Catching Flies, real name George King, has created his most emotional and cohesive project yet. A beautiful, moving record, with sounds that unmistakably come straight from the heart, it’s all held together by a singular sense of purpose and that trademark intricacy. ‘I wanted it to feel as intricate and as layered as possible. I tried to really push myself musically. The challenge was – how do I make this sound much bigger than a guy sitting in a room with a laptop and a MIDI keyboard?’

Typically wide-ranging in genre, the album highlights his ability to effortlessly manoeuvre and experiment across the spectrum of electronic music, from hip-hop to house, from soul to neo-classical. The album is led by new single ‘Halo,’ which sees him at his best - a melodic mesh of harp samples, vocal chops and a soaring string quartet finale. It’s highly textured, deeply melodic and effortlessly marries live instrumentation with warm electronic beats. ‘Spring’ utilises a vocal sample he found whilst touring China, and ‘The Last Phone Call’ merges a spoken word voice-note from a friend with a vocal recorded on his iPhone on Hampstead Heath - ‘I was pushing my bike and heard this guy singing in the distance, hidden in the trees… I had to EQ out the sound of my bike wheels turning to make it work.’ ‘Macerato’ was made in lockdown with a couple of friends, whilst the album track ‘Tides’ caused the most headache - ‘it went through about 20 different versions and ended up having 270 tracks of audio - there’s so much in there that you don’t necessarily hear on first listen.’ The album also includes the ‘absolutely brilliant’ (Lauren Laverne, BBC6 Music) hit single ‘GLY’ which has received over 20 million streams to date and came with remixes by revered British dance/pop band Hot Chip, and Ninja Tune’s DJ Boring. Also featured is piano piece ‘Diamonds,’ which has gathered artist support from the likes of Nils Frahm and Jungle. The album will be released in combination with a live video performance featuring a string quartet and a harpist.

Second solo LP from Causa Sui guitar player/producer Jonas Munk. These three long pieces aren't defined by Munks signature guitar-approach, but is rather a musical vision of vintage synthesizers, organs, piano and analog electronics elegantly weaved together to create extensive formations of pure sound. The harmonic simplicity and unrestricted dedication to sonic balance and texture is something of a first in Munk's body of work. This is pattern music, characterized by slow builds and subtle, but refined, transformations, where gradual tectonic shifts and tiny harmonic gestures generate vivid emotional responses. Instead of imposing any direct intention or meaning, it's an album that can create a mental environment for the listener to expand and open up into.

Music like this is perceived as incredibly simple and free flowing, but, as is the case with the biological world, reveals textural minutiae and interweaved intricacy once studied close-up. Every tiny detail serves the bigger picture. It's music that's practically vibrating with possibility.
