'Les Apaches' was a group of French musicians, writers and artists which formed around 1900. They adopted the name which refers to the Native American Apache tribe, but had the additional meaning in French of 'hooligans'. The group, which included renowned composer Maurice Ravel, met every Sunday.

'Les Apaches' was also a Parisian criminal subculture of early 20th century hooligans, night muggers, street gangs and other criminals. After the news about their notoriety spread across Europe, the term was used to describe violent street crime in other countries as well; for example, the Russian apaches.
