"Agua Salgada," (Salt Water) by Chude Mondlane, came out of "live" improve sessions with the group Projecto TRANSITO (Chico Antonio, Edmundo Matsielane, Chude Mondlane and Nico M'Sagarra). It speaks of the bodies of water that carried slaves from their African homelands to the "New World" and into the diaspora. "Agua Salgada" begins with the calls from the Xigovia (made from a masala fruit - http://bit.ly/12bhLwB), a globular flute instrument used for communication. The song then brings the echantation of a "curandeira" (healer) the sounds of the throwing of cowrie shells (xiki xiki wava!) to predict the future and then the guitar introduces the rhythm as the journey begins. It is a work in progress…

TRANSITO "TRANCE II" Ft. Chico Antonio & Chude Mondlane - Live @Modaskavalu

Projecto TRANSITO (Chico Antonio, Edmundo Matsielane, Chude Mondlane and Nico M'Sagarra). It is an "accoustic" journey of discovery between musicians of varied musical and cultural origins (Mozambique, USA and France) using traditional instruments from around the world. They came together to experience they common love for music in "live" improve sessions that developed into compositions. It is a work in progress…
