«Strange dreams» was composed for C Barré ensemble in frames of Composers Lab of «reMusik.org» festival. This piece explores transition between conditions of being awake and falling asleep. I tried to recreate some thoughts and images emerging at this moment, which are extremely chaotic and elusive. Rhythmic structure is inspired by Myoclonus phenomenon – irregular twitching of muscles when person is falling asleep. This element creates ostinato background for brief phrases and passages, which improvisatory nature reflects the main idea of irrationality and unpredictability of this boundary state of our consciousness.

Strange dreams (ensemble, 2021)

Chronoclasm - in science fiction is one of the possible consequences of travels in time. As a result of meeting people from different eras, ideas and information are transferred from the future to the past. This causes some events and actions in the past, but all their consequences are already reflected in the future. Thus, the reality does not change, all the rings of chronoclasms ever created are already included in the course of history. On the contrary, the abolition of one of the chronoclasms will lead to a change in the future.
In this piece the idea of “broken time” is reflected in “broken” musical continuum and “broken sound”, since some of musical instruments are detuned.
The piece “Chronoclasm II” was written especially for the ensemble “C Barre” and was premiered at the festival on May 31, 2021.

Vento Solare (Solar Wind) is a particle flux outgoing from the heliosphere into the outer space. Solar wind is the cause of not only magnetic storms and related cataclysms, but also the cause of such fantastically marvelous natural phenomenon as polar glow.

Когда Солнце закрыто тяжелыми облаками, а воздух наполнен легким туманом, мы часто видим солнечные лучи, проходящие сквозь прорывы в облаках и прочерчивающие свой путь сквозь туман благодаря рассеянию на каплях, из которых он состоит. Лучи как бы берут начало у облаков, отбрасывающих тень. В Германии это явление называют "Солнце пьет воду", в Голландии говорят "Солнце стоит на ножках". У англичан это явление называют "лестницей Якоба" или "лестницей ангелов". 
В сумерки также можно наблюдать другое явление, когда облака, уходящие на западный горизонт, отбрасывают полосы тени на все небо, подобно гигантскому вееру. 
После мощных вулканических извержений, когда в атмосфере имеются мельчайшие пылинки – аэрозоль,  наблюдаются яркие "лучи Будды",  и вся сумеречная картина приобретает феерические краски.

ERE [ 11 string arrangement ] (2017)

Natalia Prokopenko was born in Russia. 
She graduated from Composition faculty of Moscow State conservatory in 2010 cum laude. 
Natalia is a winner of composition competitions: The First All-Russian composers’ competition on YouTube (2010, II prize), IV International composers’ competition for youth “A Step to the left” (Saint-Petersburg, 2011, II prize), II International Myaskovsky competition for young composers (2012, diploma), VII International Jurgenson Competition of young composers (Moscow, 2013, I prize), II International Sergei Slonimsky Composition Competition (Saint-Petersburg, 2015, diploma). 
In 2012 she was a student in the Second International Moscow contemporary music ensemble Academy, where she studied composition with Mark Andre and Klaus Lang.
In 2014 she was a participant of the 47th International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt, where she studied composition  with Hans Thomalla, Mark Andre and Clemens Gadenstätter. 
Today Natalia is a member of Composers’ Union of Russian Federation.
