I spoke with Garland Nixon today about the state of democracy in the west. Why is it so hard for ordinary people to influence outcomes in our societies? Were the things we learned in school about Britain being the home of modern democracy and the House of Commons being the 'Mother of all parliaments' ever really true?

We talked about how decaying capitalist-imperialism needs to keep workers as distracted as possible from their declining conditions by an ever-more hysterical and partisan 'news cycle', which does not actually represent the really important things that are going on in the world and only aims to keep workers 'entertained', demoralised and divided into tribal 'culture wars' groupings.

And we discussed the nature of the state under conditions of capitalist rule, and how that differs under socialism. What is the content of the term 'democratic socialism' and whose interests do the self-identifying 'democratic socialists' really serve? What politics do the Greens really represent? Can politicians like Zohran Mamdani in the States and Zach Polanski in Britain really be as 'anti-establishment' and 'disruptive' as the spin doctors want us to believe?

Nigel Farage is simply one more player in a game of ‘divide and rule’ that the British ruling class has been directing for 200 years. With the Labour and Tory parties both drained of credibility, the ruling class has been training up a new reserve team, which is now ready to be brought into play. Farage’s job is to pose as an ‘outsider’ the establishment doesn’t want us to listen to – all while his party and its anti-migrant rhetoric are given massive promotion in establishment media. The aim is both to keep workers putting their faith in the increasingly distrusted parliamentary system, and to persuade them to direct their anger and frustration at other workers rather than at the capitalist system and those who rule it.

Today I spoke with Garland Nixon about the ramping up of attempts by the British state to silence all dissent on the question of zionist genocide and the Palestinian freedom struggle. 

As it resorts to ever more fascistic and heavy-handed policing against journalists, political figures and health workers in particular, we are seeing not its strength but signs of the regime’s weakness and the system’s decay.

Why is the General Medical Council being weaponised? Why is the government doubling down and continuing to insist on its promotion of a concept of ‘antisemitism’ that has been thoroughly exposed in the eyes of all thinking people? Why does it continue to insist that support for Palestinian resistance = terrorism?

We talked about the case of Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, cleared by one tribunal of any activity that should prevent her from practising medicine, and then immediately called to a new hearing despite no new ‘offence’ having been committed – essentially in response to the health minister Wes Streeting kicking up a stink about the verdict.

What is the role of the official Palestine solidarity and trade union movement leadership in all this? Why is Dr Aladwan being vilified in the media and used as a test case by the ruling class? Why is Wes Streeting so desperate to make sure that the (zionist) IHRA’s ‘definition of antisemitism’ is rolled out across the entire NHS? What it it about medics speaking up for Palestine that has the ruling class so jumpy?

And, as the detaining of our comrade and RT journalist Steve Sweeney shows us: how long before this entire machinery of islamophobic and genocide-enabling repression is aimed at the beating heart of the anti-imperialist movement – the communists?

We also talked about the creation of controlled opposition, with a particular focus on the pseudo-revolutionary anticommunism of imperialist agent Leon Trotsky and the movement he spawned (Trotskyism).

We discussed the true impact of the Soviet Union during the period of VI Lenin and Josef Stalin's leadership of socialist construction, and just why and how workers in the west have been lied to about the USSR's phenomenal achievements.

Meanwhile, the US ruling class continues its genocidal campaign to try to starve the Cuban people into submission. After decades of resisting such efforts, what is the source of the tremendous resilience of this tiny island nation?

We also spoke about the economic crisis that is gripping the world capitalist system; why it is driving the monopolists and financiers into ever more war, and why we can expect more lay-offs and more austerity at home.

The truth is clearer than ever: socialism or fascist barbarism. We can keep begging for crumbs that are not going to come and keep allowing our rulers a free hand to drown the world in blood, or we can take hold of revolutionary Marxist science, build a real working-class organisation, and wage a determined struggle for socialist liberation.

US Democrats aren't socialists Joti Brar on Revolutionary Blackout Network with Nick Cruse

George Korkovelos, Cultural Secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain (M-L), gives a short but powerful presentation of the lasting cultural legacy of the Great Socialist October Revolution of 1917.

Lenin and the Bolsheviks, in revolutionising Russia, set culture the task of going amongst the working class and peasant masses to truly serve it. The masses must be elevated to the heights of culture. Culture should not be flattened to its lower level.

The October Revolution was a true renaissance in human activity and this was reflected in the flowering of its culture. 

Turning from words to song: George introduces Comrade Eleanore who sings three beautiful songs, each of profound revolutionary significance. 

1. “Song of the Volga Boatmen”. A timeless song lamenting the oppression of the toilers, sighing under the oppression of serfdom in the Russian Empire. When Robeson sung the song he united it with the masses of the oppressed throughout the world, in particular with the sufferings of the oppressed black workers and peasants in the USA itself.

2. "Whirlwinds of Danger," an English translation of the Polish socialist revolutionary song "Warszawianka". Paul Robeson recorded a version of this song, much loved by the English and Welsh miners and working class. It was a song sung by the revolutionary people’s movements abroad Europe, from Poland to Russia, during the period of the 1880s until the October Revolution.

3. “Bravely, comrades, let’s march”. Lyrics by the revolutionary poet Leonid Petrovich Radin, written in 1897 following his imprisonment in Moscow's Taganskaya prison for his dedication to the liberation of the working masses. This song led the Russian workers to October and, enduring the Civil War, resounded on all fronts as the marching anthem of the Red Army.

Comrade Eleanore’s beautiful voice brings these sacred hymns of the working class to life for us once more.

Comrade Tushika Ranasinghe of the Janatha Vimukth Peramuna (JVP) delivered a powerful fraternal address honouring the October Revolution and outlining Sri Lanka's recent political transformation. He described the decades of corruption, ethnic divisions, and capitalist decay which culminated in the 2022 Aragalaya uprising. The JVP and its broad front, the NPP seized this historic moment and mobilised workers, women, peasants and the youth to win the presidency and parliamentary majority in 2024.

The U.S is recycling its old ideas again (remember the concocted idea of Operation Norwoods!) in order to attack Venezuela. No longer can it call Maduro an undemocratic dictator as it did through the early 2000s and so it has changed tactics. Maduro is now a drug kingpin and a designated terrorist with a bounty on his head. The US wants to invade Venezuela for its oil and to destroy the example it is presenting to the world that there in fact is a different route from capitalism; that route is called socialism.

Last week I spoke with Garland Nixon about the so-called ‘peace plan’ for Ukraine and why all the argumentation and speculation over its details remains in the world of narrative management and fantastical/wishful projection. Until such time as the defeated Nato camp is prepared to sign up to an enforceable agreement that resolves the key drivers of the war, it is battlefield realities that will shape the outcome. 

And on the battlefield, Ukrainian proxies and their Nato backers are being roundly defeated.

No matter what Trump says or does, or how many tantrums the Europeans throw, Ukraine will be demilitarised. It will be denazified. The Russian-speaking population in the country will have its rights protected. Ukraine will not be joining the EU or Nato. There will be no western bases or military advisers. 

And IF the actor-stooge ‘president’ Zelensky finds a way to escape the wrath of his angry people and his fascist henchmen when the frontlines collapse, my best guess is that it will be in a chopper full of dollars a la Hamid Karzai.

We also reflected on Garland’s recent trip to Russia and Belarus and the things he saw in both countries. In particular, the civilian war effort being run by volunteers to support their soldiers on the frontlines in Russia. And the way in which much of Soviet industrial, agricultural, technical, educational and social structures have been preserved in Belarus.

As Garland says: “What we are told about these countries and what we are told about socialism is not just a lie, it's the ABSOLUTE OPPOSITE of the truth.”

Can the UN system be brought to serve the real interests of the global majority? 
The Communist Party of China (CPC) is promoting an approach to international affairs that aims to put the principles of the UN charter into practice. What stands in the way of such a development is not the will of the peoples, but the rabid warmongering and endemic supremacism of the imperialist ruling classes. Given the USA’s vice-like grip over the UN, it remains to be seen whether that institution can possibly be reformed, or whether the emerging anti-imperialist world will find itself forced to simply set up new mechanisms and institutions elsewhere.

Dockworkers in the Italian port of Genoa have consistently led the way in obstructing the efforts of the Nato war machine. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is an organisation whose chief aim is to disseminate its 'working definition' of Antisemitism among the nations and institutions of the world. It was first adopted by Theresa May on behalf of the British Conservative (Tory) party in December 2016, but also on behalf of the British Nation. There has been no consultation about this. Nicola Sturgeon led the SNP and Scotland to accept it. Jeremy Corbyn led the Labour Party to adopt it while leader. After him Plaid Cymru, the Greens, the Liberals and every mainstream party of British imperialism has accepted and adopted it. 

THE definition has been pushed onto schools, universities, the police forces of the UK and now has been forced onto the NHS and all of its institutions in November 2025 by none other than the arch-ZIonist Wes Streeting, currently Labour Party's Health Secretary.

It is a dangerous definition because it seeks to brand all criticism of Israel as 'racism' (antisemitism). By doing so it will outlaw all real criticism of Israel's genocide, all support for the freedom struggle of the oppressed in Palestine and by extension elsewhere. It is a means of Political policing and political repression - with very real economic consequences for those accused - by employers, the Labour Party apparatchiks and zionist activists - of "antisemitic" support for Palestine and criticism of Israel.

Dr Ranjeet Brar - himself the serial victim of this legislation, definition and action - explains point by point, what is wrong with the IHRA definition, and why a rigorous campaign against it is needed throughout British society, including but not limited to the NHS, to defend basic political liberty and freedom of speech for the whole of the British working class.

An essential tool for education and the campaign - please watch it in full and spread it widely.
