Danny McLewin aka Skyrager is one of my favorite people on the planet. His ability to dig out rare unheard of bangers and drop them hot on the dance floor sums up all the reasons we love to go out. Based out of England, Danny travels the world spreading love through music with the group Psychemagik and under his solo moniker Skyrager. An avid record collector and dealer, I'm always so excited to comb through all his mixes. Before After Hours takes you on a blissful musical odyssey. From demented dubbed out synth reggae jams, Krautrock, Italo, Arabic disco and beyond, this mix has it all. Enjoy friends x

Before After Hours

This month we drop a 2 parter episode, with Andy Pye from balearic Social dropping the second part to this episode some time next week. A little matter of Covid and big birthday celebrations  standing in the way of Andy Pye Balearic Social getting his mix over. He's also busying away with a new residency warming up proceedings for the longstanding Back2Basics! 

Andy is a good friend, musical font of knowledge and all round good guy so its great to welcome him back to the ReFrame for his second round, last one was clsoe to a decade ago now... wowzers!

Part 1 is two hours of cosmic disco balearica with a dash of 80s swerveballs and a chunk of ReFrame edits from myself. Music from artists/editors including Wrekin Havoc, Yaniel, Approach Release, Baz Bradley, Eden, Unreasonable echo, Lynsey de Paul, Pascale, Jorge Schellenberg, Eurythmics, Ptaki, Will Powers amongst others.

Tomorrow is the last time

Next up on @idlecellars mix series we have a dear friend, legendary Dj, selector and producer @felix-dickinson blessing us with his unique style and effortless flow. Some sweet unknowns and a few lost classics thrown in, a perfect journey from start to finish.

Felix has been part of the UK's underground dance scene for the last 3 decades, learning his trade DJing at free parties and illegal raves and co-founding his first record label Ugly Music in the 90's. He's produced records for well renowned record labels worldwide including DFA, Rush Hour, Eskimo, Golf Channel, Claremont 56, Futureboogie and his own label Cynic.

He has secured slots at well known clubs and festivals across the globe, and the last few years have seen him receive a lot more attention due to his high profile residencies for Block 9 (Glastonbury) and Croatia’s Love International as well as regular appearances at Houghton, Gottwood, Thailand’s Wonderfruit festival and regular tours of Japan, the USA and beyond.
 
Felix:

"The brief for this mix was something that you could listen to with a glass of wine in your hand as the sun goes down. It’s a pretty mellow early evening selection, something you can unwind to at the end of the day, but get’s a little more lively as the second and third glass goes down, so could just as easily be something to bung as you’re getting ready to go out."

Felix Dickinson - Sundowner

Danish music connoisseur Mike Salta is a man of many talents. Whether he’s acting as musician, DJ, record producer, radio broadcaster, remixer or composer, Mike Salta always strives to create musical magic. Operating in a sphere where time and genre is nothing and vibe is everything, and with 35+ years of experience from performances and entrepreneurship all over the world, Salta has released records on an array of highly regarded labels including NuNorthern Soul, Music For Dreams, Café Del Mar and Claremont 56. Keep a look out for Mike Salta's 12" remix of 'City Lights' by Flashbaxx which is due out on NuNorthern Soul this spring. He also has a single called 'Espalmador' coming out on Music For Dreams in March/April and a full length album due for release in the summer.

Mike Salta has delivered an outstanding mix for the series. Recorded in 2022, his thoughtful selections are a perfect balance of old and new. There’s no shortage of gold on here, such as Suso Saiz' ambient masterpiece ‘Un Humbro Oscuro’. Back in 2016 Music From Memory licensed and made this track available on both vinyl and digital formats for the first time. Quincy Jones smooth jazz-funk classic 'Velas', off his 1981 three-times Grammy Award winning LP The Dude. Philippe Royan’s blissed-out ‘Cap Malheureux‘, the instrumental B-side of a super-rare 7” from 1990. Absolutely gorgeous record. As for some of the newer material represented here, there's Simon Mills' brilliantly emotive track 'Coco', a digital/Bandcamp exclusive from 2020 which I'm hoping will get a physical release at some point. Closing the mix is Pablo Color's lovely guitar noodle 'El Abrazor' from his latest (at time of writing) LP Hora Azul, released in 2021. A big thanks to Mike Salta for taking the time to record this mix.
