For this week's Edit Room release we are gassed to present a hefty one from Warrington based producer, @prodbygrabba. Having previously studied in Leeds and made music with Frazer Ray (fka Soundbwoy Killah), Grabba is returning to the scene after a break from music, getting back into it during the first UK lockdown. 

Grabba has put together a percussion-heavy remix of Lil Mama’s 2008 track ‘Lip Gloss’, with no shortage of heavy sub hits, this track has some serious swagger to it. We’re massive fans of what Grabba has produced, and have heard that his daughter also loves his music! 

Massive shoutout to Will Weaver for this weeks artwork, keep your eyes peeled for more collaborations between us and Will!

Since his last outing on Control Freak with the sold-out Bunzunkunzun EP, Syz has built a reputation as one of the UKs most distinctive club producers, weaving playful, percussive techno with soundsystem-driven bass music. Releases via Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs and more recently on Banoffee Pies have cemented his position as a rising star of the UK scene.

Much of this acclaim started with 2020’s Mindforms - a self-released mini-LP which saw the young producer step away from the dancefloor to explore an expansive sonic world, ‘balancing the tranquility of the ecological world with the immediacy of the digital one’.

The original release was accompanied by a highly limited run of just 10 dubplates. Deeming this 6-tracker too good not to receive a proper pressing, Control Freak are proud to present the first ever complete vinyl run for Mindforms, housed in full-colour centre-cut sleeves featuring an adaptation of the original artwork by Jamie Fallon (Ghost Cell), reworked by London-based designer Blixa Aguerreberry.

Alongside the record, Syz & Control Freak have curated Clubforms, a collection of remixes from some of our favourite producers, each bringing the original release firmly onto the dancefloor with their own production flourishes. Daisy Moon takes a decidedly Bristolian approach, delivering a scorching hot, bass-driven club stomper.

DEEJAY MAQUEEN is a young DJ from St. Petersburg, and one of the key members of the @urbanstghetto label and collective.  She recently started her career as a DJ, but has already developed a significant following.  Her sets are charged with powerful energy and leave no chance to sit still. Despite the huge variety of genres of music that she skillfully interweaves in her sets, the love for broken and fast rhythms, as well as overloaded bass, is clearly visible in each of them. Her arsenal includes electro/breakbeat/acid/uk garage sets with acceleration from 145 bpm to a powerful steady beat at 160 bpm whilst also incorporating elements of incredible Juke, Ghettotech, Footwork and Jungle.
