Survey - Away [Forthcoming 26th August 2013]

The single kicks off with Cursa’s fast paced and break heavy a-side, Flange. The track starts with a menacing horn like sample as bass booms and hints of percussion break through the atmospherics. As the synth build sharpens out of the gloom the break also comes into focus, ensuring that sense of excitement only found on the dance floor when you know something big is about to hit your eardrums. At the drop the bass flows from the bottom end of your subwoofer through the techy disjointed mids tailing into the highs in one continuous, satisfying growl. The furious, complex tempo of the jungle like break is woven seamlessly into the dark weighty bassline to ensure that the song stays consistently satisfying and groove inducing. 

On the flipside, Sister P explores the other end of the spectrum, swapping the pacey breaks for a minimal deep and equally as dark sound. Starting with some subtle foreboding pads and only a few snippets of percussion, further highlighting Cursa’s sound engineering prowess in their ability to forefront simple percussion and hold your attention. As the pinpoint percussion fades the track drops into near silence. Contrasting with the previous tracks energetic build up Sister P utilises its minimal foundations to create a tension and sense of wonder until the gut-wrenching bassline kicks in. The bass twists and turns creating a considered but continuous pace, working in subtle bass and percussion licks which serve to gradually intensify track. 

Offering the best of both worlds, but never letting up on the shady tones and immaculate sound engineering Cursa’s single is set to satisfy the needs of anyone with a sound system meaty enough to handle it.

Opening to tranquil keys and the sound of a distant downpour, ‘Sorrow’ creates an air of reflection as a carefully precise portamento reigns through the dynamic bassline while meticulously produced pads carry throughout.

With support from drum & bass’ most prominent players such as Hospital’s Etherwood and RAM regular Rene LaVice, there’s sounds to appease every drum & bass enthusiast.

As the year 2013 starts to pick up the pace Protect Audio is back once again for its 5th release in the form of two tracks from artist duo 'Survey'. Berlin's Stephan Albrecht & Hardy Schulz are the men behind the name, and with them they bring years of individual production and DJ experience now safely housed under the one alias. 

First off we have 'Grid Sheet' which wastes absolutely no time at all in introducing you to the duos dark and heavy sound. Sinister, siren-like screams move in and out whilst combining with the snarls of tortured synthesized bass to give this track a thoroughly frightening feel. Add in the intricately put together kick-based percussion and this track has everything the DJ needs to shock the audience to attention. 

On the B-side lies 'All In All' which brings back the dark old-school roller with a nice dash of modern-day production quality. This track has a feel of sci-fi mixed with a tough and gritty nature, dropping its bass on the listener like a punch in the chest. Once again you will find the growls of chopped synthesised sounds and stabs accompanied by crisp rolling beats and low end drone-like textures that really push home this modern-day industrial sound.

Since it's launch in June 2012, Protect Audio has been committed to showcasing contemporary drum and bass with a  focus on the deeper and more tech influenced side of the spectrum.  Over their initial five releases Protect Audio have brought some new names to the scene including most recently Berlin based duo Survey and northerner Marukomu.   

The sixth addition to the label's growing discography is the "Diffraction Of Sound EP. A four track EP featuring four tracks from artists previously featured on the label.  Marukomu, Survey, Shiver and Homemade Weapons all make a welcome return with some smooth production and contemporary vibes.  The music speaks for itself.
