In January 2021, the label launched Anjunabeats Rising: a new EP series highlighting the next generation of producers and championing emerging artists from around the world. 

Alex Sonata & TheRio, meHiLove and Naz feature on the latest edition in the series, Anjunabeats Rising Volume 4.

Scottish/Italian duo Alex Sonata & TheRio may be familiar to many of our fans through their output on Enhanced and Armada Music. ‘Time’ is a strong start to their Anjunabeats journey, watch this space for more music from them on the label soon.

Ukranian producer Yuriy Mikhailov, aka meHiLove, joins the Anjunabeats ranks with ‘Beautiful’. There’s echoes of the classic, groovy Anjunadeep sound of the 2000s on this one.

Rounding off the package is Naz. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, she’s a versatile producer and multi-instrumentalist now based in Amsterdam. She returned to music production in March 2020 after a decade away, and her comeback ‘Voodoo / Lost’ EP on Ruben de Ronde’s Statement Music caught our ear. ‘Underwater’ is dark progressive music with a touch of 80s glam, and features a spirited vocal from Deanna Leigh.

It’s been approximately one year since our first retro futuristic compilation was released, and as we’ve moved further into the future, it appears we’ve come closer to the 90s, if not even ventured a tiny bit into the 00s. We might even be in the present, if not even the future. Somehow, with one foot still in the 80s.
As our universes collide, it’s hard to tell what is what. Whether you think this is a futuristic take on Eurodance with an 80s twist, Italo Body or Trance, that is totally up to you. Graeme Shepherd (a.k.a. Grum) has gone from darling of the blogosphere to breakout progressive star over the past decade. Today, he is one of the most consistent and and in-demand producers on Anjunabeats, churning out 80’s infected progressive bangers that tug on your hips, feet and heartstrings: ’SOS’, ‘Price of Love’ and ’Shout’ (sampling the legendary Tears For Fears) are just some of the belters from Grum’s Anjunabeats back-catalogue.

His second artist album ‘Deep State’ was released last November. A showcase of Grum’s ability to craft pitch-black progressive and immersive vocal pop, the album embraced vintage dance floor ideas in a thoroughly modern way. Since the album’s release, Grum has toured ‘Deep State’ throughout Europe and North America, as well as launching his own Deep State Recordings imprint in January 2020. 

The deluxe version of ‘Deep State’ sees nine album tracks emerge as extended, DJ-friendly mixes. It also features Grum’s private ‘Future Mix' of ’Tomorrow’ and remixes of ‘Stay’ and ‘Afterglow’ from Genix and Kryder. Completing the package are acoustic renditions of ’Stay’ and ’Tomorrow’, featuring vocalists Natalie Shay and Dom Youdan.
