Back for a full debut on Meanwhile, Ruben Karapetyan returns with a twin-track offering of impressive stature as he delivers “Nostalgic Moments / Perceptual Isolation”.

Formerly hailed as Armenia’s top electronic music export back in the late 1990s, Ruben Karapetyan has continued to find himself at the forefront of the global Progressive House community with a distinctive sound palette. A double century of production credits since a November 2020 release on Tash’s Movement Recordings and the Armenian has not looked back. A host of original and remix production material has since found its way onto the likes of Paul Thomas’ UV, John 00 Fleming’s JOOF Aura and 30 credits for Mango’s top-selling Mango Alley. Moreover, Ruben has also found notable success on his own RKP label.

Opening his Meanwhile account in July 2023 as part of the “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 3” compilation, Ruben Karapetyan illustrates impressive flair with opener, “Nostalgic Moments”. Fuelled by percussive verve and effortless bass groove, it is certain to rip up dancefloors. Full of gravitas and a deep dark character, an increasing number of rhythmic layers add groove aplenty while a breakdown introduces increasing energy via pitched effect and snare rolls. The drop back into the earlier bass groove is a joy to behold.

The lighter, more airy qualities of “Perceptual Isolation” creates a magical touch that glistens and shimmers through the early phases. A subtle bassline sequence adds depth and club-friendly quality while the smooth melodic flourishes are able to shine through the delicate breakdown. Picking up the pace again in the third movement, a delicate and meandering acid-tinged arpeggio adds another memorable touch.

Reflecting on beautifully imagined nostalgia, Ruben Karapetyan reflects in glorious isolation with “Nostalgic Moments / Perceptual Isolation”.

A pairing of considerable experience, Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone return to Proton Music with a brand-new original track in the shape of "Got to Get it Started", alongside remixes from Michael A and Orsen.

A powerful duo with a rich combined history stretching back more than 15 years, the UK / Italian axis has accounted for some of the finest underground house releases. First coming together in August 2021, their "Lust Stop / Letter to Her" EP shone a bright light on Guy J's esteemed Lost & Found imprint before going on to feature on the likes of Selador, Renaissance Music and Sudbeat Music. A 2023 remix of Verche for Particles was then followed by a debut Proton Music remix of dernis the kid's "Maybe feat. Clara Jo" a year later. Now returning with a debut original offering, "Got to Get it Started" is a powerful progressive gem that hits hard with thumping beat and ticking hats before a smooth female vocal proclaims the track title. A cast of hypnotic melodic elements builds with filtered intensity with a pulsating arp and hefty bassline to keep the energy high. A glorious piano phrase supplies old school vibes at the breakdown while cadenced vocal snippets evolve with the hypnotic array of pitched synth arps in the second half to reach a stirring crescendo.

Michael A has been at the vanguard of the Proton Music sound since his 2017 "Bright Hope" EP. Over 60 production credits later and the Belarusian has seen an ever-evolving sound feature on the likes of "Aura Tears", "Geometria" and 5 incarnations of the popular "Fantasy" series. Remixes for such iconic figures as Pole Folder, Dousk and Trilucid have also contributed to a sought-after production talent as Michael A reworks "Got to Get it Started" in typically majestic fashion. A huge thumping beat opens proceedings while a syncopated bassline echoes Luke Brancaccio and Gai Barone's original. An immaculate percussive groove supplies dancefloor sensibility as the remix builds seamlessly. Pausing for breath at the breakdown, familiar melodies from "Got to Get it Started" shine through as they intertwine with Michael's original production material. The result is a seething, progressive gem that is another commanding reminder of Michael A's talent and passion.

Legendary figure, Dan Orsen, has been at the progressive scene's top table for over a decade. Responsible for some of the finest modern underground house tracks, the UK-born, Austrian-based artist has been a regular on Sudbeat Music, Perspectives Digital and a raft of releases on Cid Inc.'s Replug where he heads up A&R. Nine remixes for Proton Music since a 2016 reworking of Mondkrater has seen Orsen interpret the likes of Roger Martinez, Dimuth K and GMJ & Matter, while a 10th Proton Music remix now sees him produce a driving mesmerising interpretation. Playing handsome tribute to the sonic overtones and vocal cadence of the original, Orsen transforms it into a spiky, coruscating, acid-powered affair that gradually builds in energy using the melodic crescendo of the original to magnificent effect in the second half. The result is a dramatic and impressive departure from the traditional Orsen sound.

A dancefloor classic, "Got to Get it Started" sees Luke Brancaccio and Gai Barone jumpstart their Proton Music sound with glittering remixes from Michael A and Orsen.

Baylee Brown hails from the coastal town of Grimsby but has made a global mark with his glitchy take on the Romanian minimal sound. His distinct style has led to releases on top labels including Roots Recordings, Issues, and Roush, all while earning support from key tastemakers such as Jamie Jones, Paco Osuna, and Marco Carola. Following the launch of his own newly minted label, OUT OF FOCUS, Brown now steps out on Lee Foss’ South of Saturn for the first time with ‘Omen’.

“The A-side to this EP has been in the back of my mind since I first started producing, growing up watching MTV. The Prodigy's tracks have always stood out to me, and this was later made more true when Marco Carola dropped a track that sampled them at We Are Festival in 2023. Since then, I was just waiting for when I felt I could best do the sample justice, and with this being my most requested track I've made, I feel I've done just that.” – Baylee Brown.

The wonderfully warped 'Omen' features synthetic synths wrapped around a lithe and minimal groove. Glitchy electronics sound like a motherboard in meltdown with whirring FX, emo vocals, and rave sirens adding futuristic character. 'DeepR' follows with dubby, twitchy textures and twanging synth notes that make for a tactile groove. Throw in spoken words and plenty of production trickery, and you have a fresh and compelling minimal house sound.
