The latest release from -102C welcomes Mattias Herrera to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Argentina, Mattias Herrera first emerged in 2020 with a release via Balkan Connection's United division, following years of perfecting his craft under the guidance of Claudio Cornejo (Analog Jungs) and Ezequiel. Arias. Success came quickly thereafter for the La Rioja resident, as only a few short months later progressive house icon Nick Warren signed an EP project from Mattias to his highly regarded The Soundgarden imprint. Also finding a home on 3rd Avenue, Droid9, Freegrant Music, One Of A Kind and more, Mattias now steps up to -102C for his label debut entitled 'Naeza'.

Title track 'Naeza' captivates immediately with it's long atmospheric intro, perfectly building anticipation and drama across a near three minute stretch as the beats eventually drop and a wonderful percussive journey begins. Soulful motifs create a gorgeous colour as the first act smoothly segues into a swirling break and balmy finale. Selection two 'We Trust' follows with a slight tempo increase and an equally impressive array of percussive elements. Exotic and detailed, their clattering meditative drawl blankets a warm, well spaced groove and pixie-like fragments for a proper daytime dance floor journey. Continuing on an organic sensibility is the EP's closer 'Cayman', which again carries a gentle hip-swinging cadence, along with a gorgeous complement of melodic elements. Perhaps the most reflective sounding of the three, it puts a resounding stamp on one of Mattias' best releases date, while -102C adds another creative talent to their roster. Highly recommended.

Uplifting summer sounds here with the latest on Magnitude Recordings by Ultraverse. Both the title track 'My Universe' as well as 'Vintage' have got that distinctive sunshine feel with it's warm chords and sexy basslines. Qbical adds a bit of uplifting summer melancholia with the sole interpretation on the EP. Quality feel good pack!

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint opens the month of October with a new EP from DJ Choopie and Golan Zocher. The former, based in Israel lays claim to over two decades of production work and releases via long standing imprints such as Bedrock and Yoshitoshi. Meanwhile, Colombian born, Israel based artist Golan Zocher has enjoyed similar success across his five-year career, landing releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Beatfreak and Clubsonica Records. Having been occasional studio partners for some time, Choopie and Golan have collaborated on projects for Mango Alley, Sol Selectas and Choopie's Agnosia Black imprint. Also calling Sound Avenue affiliate 3rd Avenue home, the duo now steps up to Sound Avenue for a three track showcase entitled 'Amirim'.

The latest release on Madloch's 3rd Avenue imprint finds the label showcasing the 13th edition of their popular 'Three Of A Kind' series. These VA EP releases feature three producers who contribute two originals, with the end result being a unique amalgamation of sound, something which has now become synonymous with the Sound Avenue affiliate. Invited to showcase their talents for the thirteenth edition are artists from Argentina, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

The release opens with Rich Towers who made his label debut earlier this year on the "We Are The Future' compilation while Darren Bray & Leandro Murua both released a lot of music on sublabel Future Avenue.

Leandro Murua - White Tusk [3rd Avenue]

A rising artist with a strong set of progressive house credentials to his name, Ric Niels returns to Particles with his "Finding Myself" EP. From his Argentinean home, over 200 production credits have come out of the Ric Niels production studio including work for the Soundgarden, Balkan Connection and Mango Alley. A 3-track EP in October 2020 saw the "Erised" EP take centre stage as Ric now returns with two new original pieces.

The "Finding Myself" title track is a fizzing percussive gem that drives forward with heavy beat while a filtered synth motif gradually comes into range. A deep bassline groove adds dancefloor prowess while a swathe of stereo-panned effects and clave top-line add intrigue. A sublime array of synth phrases enters the fray at the mid-point breakdown before the relentless groove hits the heights once again in the second half. Following the same driving rhythmic narrative, a shaker-fuelled percussion and strong grooved cadence effortlessly propel "Reasons" forward apace. A simultaneous and immaculately syncopated bassline adds weight and gravitas before a suite of emotive synth lines create tension and emotion aplenty as the track pauses for breath. Closing with the metronomic rhythmic layers of the first half, Ric Niels' talent is in full view.

A Canadian star with work signed to the likes of JOOF, Univack and Mango Alley, Dowden has been at the forefront of the progressive house scene since a debut for Yin in 2017. During that time, support has come from the likes of Soul Button, John 00 Fleming and Quivver, as Dowden now makes his Particles debut with a typically masterful reworking of "Reasons". Taking rhythmic elements from the original and transforming them with a hefty bassline groove, haunting melodic lines build in elegant fashion. Ethereal pads sweep gently across the sonic background while a searing lead cuts through the rhythmic melange like an acetylene torch. Picking up the pace once more in the second half, the Dowden remix is a powerful illustration of technique and craftsmanship.

A second remix sees another Particles debutant take their bow in the shape of Bodai. A talented DJ and producer, the Argentinean's performances in Australia, Chile and across her homeland have been coupled with a clutch of releases on the likes of Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and her own Auditen and AMITABHA labels. Supported by Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J and Eelke Kleijn, Bodai arrives on Particles with a standout reworking of "Finding Myself" which revels in a stripped back broken beat backdrop carved from the Ric Niels' rhythmic foundation. The growling bassline from the original can also be found front and centre amidst an immaculately syncopated synth line. New vocal phrasing makes its mark at the mid-point in a metronomic loop, before melodies, bass and beats combine in the second half to majestic effect.

With two new original tracks and a pair of remixes from Dowden and Bodai, Ric Niels has created a wonderful journey to "Finding Myself".

Known for his expertise in crafting captivating progressive house tracks, Doppler does not disappoint with this latest EP.
