A growing force in the world of underground dance, Juan Pablo Torrez is a renowned artist in his Cali hometown and far beyond. Head of the impressive Clubsonica Records, his growing portfolio has seen music signed to Perspectives Digital, UV and JOOF. Following a 2017 remix for Particles, the Colombian makes his original EP debut. "Nia" is a pounding progressive house gem that bristles with menacing bassline and rolling percussive groove. A vocal cut adds stereo-panned spice before emotive melodies make their presence felt into the breakdown and onto a dynamic third movement. "Jara" continues the glorious driving power of its partner track as hypnotic rhythms and arpeggios lay the foundation for a filtered female vocal to sit atop. A rippling synth line adds intrigue and a strong bassline change immediately adds energy and emotion as the track reaches its zenith. Additional synth lines in the second half provide a touch of class and mature production prowess.

A Melbourne resident, David Leckenby has seen his career trajectory rise impressively since a 2016 debut for Crosslink Music. An artist who has seen his work allied to such impressive imprints as Soundteller Records, Consapevole and Emotional Content Recordings – with support from Hernan Cattaneo, Mariano Mellino and Andrea Cassino – the Australian's "Primal Connection" EP for Particles marked a notable highlight in February 2020 including a remix from fellow Melbourne residents, GMJ and Matter. Now returning, the David Leckenby remix takes "Jara" in a smooth organic house route that envelops the listener with relaxed groove and muted synth palette via glorious piano phrasing. A ticking percussive groove adds intensity while a series of counterpoint motifs play off the central motif; the result is an innovative and impressive remix.

Joining forces in 2018, Toronto based duo, Beije, have an impressive selection of releases under their belt for such blue-chip imprints as Nugget Music, Polyptych and Paul Hazendonk's Manual Music. Now making their Particles debut, the Canadian pair have created a wonderful reworking of "Nia" that uses the recognisable melodic elements of Juan Pablo Torrez's work while creating a new rhythmic framework and mid-range bass pattern. The vocal phrase so central to the original is reimagined in hypnotic patterns that criss-cross the stereo spectrum in dizzying fashion. The result is a strong Particles debut appearance full of Beije's "hypnotic rhythms and melancholic melodies".

RIGOONI - When Midnight Comes [Higher States]

Two of the most exciting progressive house producers from the USA carry the weight of the latest MNL release as Kaspar Tasane drops two brand new originals and Kai Castro joins on remix duties.

Kasper Tasane has been making name for himself in the past five years by putting out a strong run of high quality progressive house releases in his own distinctive sound. His productions always sound fresh and airy, and have got that kinda trancey vibe going on as you'll hear whilst listening to his latest two productions 'Mirrormask' and 'Spellbinder'. Pure bliss!

Kai Castro is a fast emerging talent from Austin, Texas who first entered the scene two years ago. He takes on 'Mirrormask' and got so inspired by the song that he decided two make two totally different but equally cool interpretations. The first remix is a nice progressive dreamer whilst the 'Afterhours Dub' sounds like a timeless deep tech tune, a proper heady one.

With 'Closure' we welcome Adam Trist feat. m_tthew to ICONYC Noir. Adam treats us with a brand-new track that oozes class and sophistication. 'Closure' features rich driving textures; as well as euphoric and moody deep house vibes to satisfy ambient, uplifting and feel good needs, which are the keywords for this beautiful and extraordinary release.

Adam opens proceedings with his smashing original mix. His musical development is in full swing, interspersed subtle effective percussion, accompanied by profound floaty grooves and indie influences lead the way. Utilizing the hypnotizing groove and vocal, as the basis of the original underpinned by a rumbling bass that gradually eases its way to the breakdown, before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect.

The first remix comes courtesy of Andrea Cassino; which hits all the right chords from the word go. Andrea's deep entry merged the roomy glowing drive, filtered stabs and stunning groove which beautifully lead into a drop full of tension and excitement, while the understated yet driving bassline and layered vocals power the groove along. He manages to keep the energy up, allowing the driving melodic house feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape to round off this classy underground crowd pleaser. Essential stuff from Andrea!

Next up we welcome back Las Von. His unique act and emotional creations carry quite a large scope. He is not afraid to explore esoteric or introspective themes and the end result is always a compelling one. Such is the case with his remix of 'Closure', which carries many of Las Von's most loved production hallmarks. From a warm, meaty low end to icy atmospherics and an effects storyboard to get lost in, there is certainly a lot to like. The main break is perhaps the high point, with the mood shifting from emotive to ominous with effortless ease. It's something you rarely see and he pulled it off beautifully here.

Adam Trist's 'Closure' really shows that there're no boundaries, as this beautiful deep melodic release will leave you with many smile induced moments! Not to be missed.

Wow, hadn't realised what a journey SoundCloud would take me on.  After many years of passive listening to music I've dieted on a variety of tastes. My appetite for new sounds is undiminished and SC provides plenty of food. I am not a musician and have only recently started to listen positively to the sounds.
