Welcoming new artists to Proton Music is always an honour and Dimuth K is no exception. With his first outing on the label, the Sri Lankan delivers his "Minesweeper / Beams Aglow" EP.

Involved in music from an early age, seeing him share the decks with Khen, Guy J and Third Son and music signed to the likes of Balkan Connection, Sudbeat Music and JOOF Recordings, Dimuth K has made a growing name for himself since a 2015 debut. Finding his music supported by the likes of Nick Warren, Marcelo Vasami and Cid Inc., the Colombo resident now opens his Proton Music account with two high-calibre originals. With a high-energy opening of running, grooved bassline and hypnotic driving beat, "Minesweeper" is a full-on aural assault of the highest order. Building in intelligent fashion with ticking shakers and filtered arpeggio, a rich chord progression provides emotion and dynamism. Reaching a crescendo at the mid-point breakdown with white-noise powered effects and risers, the driving rhythm hits its stride in the third movement to impressive effect. The more languid percussive groove and rolling beat of "Beams Aglow" paves the way for a melodic bassline phrase to play its part before textured pads add depth. Delicately delayed keys ripple in sparkling fashion, dancing in sunlit patterns, while a distinct plucked guitar phrase makes its presence felt. Always held in place by the strong club-friendly framework, the track eases into the second half with rhythm and bass in full evidence as melodic elements are reprised once again in the latter stages.

A regular on Proton Music with his immaculate original music and trademark melodic prowess, the "Hidden Arcadia" series has seen Erdi Irmak at his very best. Reaching its fourth and fifth incarnations in 2020, the series has come off the back of the sparkling "Night" EP in 2015 and the full-length "You're Either Guilty Or Not Guilty" album for Particles in 2014. Following on from an April 2019 remix of Senses Of Mind, Erdi now returns with a glorious reworking of "Beams Aglow" that captures the essence of Dimuth K's original with delicate use of the plucked guitar motif that transcends the Turkish producer's remix. Adding a smooth percussive backdrop, a freeform, flowing lead line ripples its ways across the six-minute piece while a smooth vocal line meanders gently alongside. The outcome is a cleverly worked interpretation that retains the hallmarks of Irmak's distinctive style.

Another artist that requires little in the way of introduction is Simos Tagias. With a back catalogue that includes over 300 production credits, the Greek artist has found a home on Proton Music with his "Airlock" and "Audacity" EPs lighting up the label with a distinctive musical style that has drawn worldwide admirers. Indeed, such renowned artists as Petar Dundov and GMJ were inspired to remix his most recent EP in June 2019. Now returning to Proton after a July 2019 remix of Color Ray, Simos Tagias takes "Beams Aglow" on a wonderful dancefloor journey that builds on the core elements created by Dimuth K and turns them into a storming club anthem. With an ever-involving interpretation that gently builds pace through driving percussion and head-shaking bassline, an array of new production material catapults the track into the third movement with a powerful drop and hypnotic arpeggio sequence.

Cid Inc's Replug Records begins the new year by welcoming DJ Zombi to the label for his debut single. Based in Tel Aviv, the Israeli artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for over a decade. Whether operating as one half of the famed crossover act Weekend Heroes, or under his solo moniker of DJ Zombi, Eli Baltsan is well travelled, having curated music for the world's premiere festivals and trendiest venues. With a renewed focus on his solo productions in recent years, DJ Zombi has found a home on Guy J's Armadillo Records, Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Beatfreak Recordings, Chapter 24 and his own Beat Boutique imprint. Now making his much anticipated Replug debut, DJ Zombi presents ‘Octopus' alongside a remix from Cid Inc & Orsen. 

DJ Zombi is an artist who has worn many stylistic hats over the last two years, compiling a discography that features a clever amalgamation of genres. With ‘Octopus' he takes a deeper more melodic approach, one which has already been winning over crowds during his sets in recent months. Anchored by a warm, full bodied groove, its rhythmic core comes up quickly, with layers of exotic drums carrying a buoyant cadence. Subtle shades and hopeful tones coverage as the narrative evolves, before rising atmospheres and radiant chord stabs unite during a grandiose break. Tense yet exhilarating, a drummy build marries waves of white noise during a colossal crescendo, as the groove drops for an emotive, arp driven finale.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Octopus' is Cid Inc & Orsen. Based in Finland and Austria respectively, 2019 proved to be a fruitful year for both artists. Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc. once again delivered one of progressive music's finest moments with the March release of ‘Via Karelia'. Similarly, Dan Baseley aka Orsen won the hearts of the genre's tastemakers with the November offering ‘Falling In'. Having commemorated the label's ten-year anniversary with their first ever joint production in October, Cid Inc and Orsen now build on that creative synergy with an inspired take on ‘Octopus'. The duo expands on the smooth, emotive qualities of the original with a tougher more peak time approach. Possessing a dramatic undercurrent, it's punchy kicks and fiery percussion create waves of energy as the first act evolves. The main arp adds nicely to it's hypnotic drive, gradually opening up against a backdrop of hopeful pads, as the breakdown reaches a euphoric peak, before shifting energy into a smooth yet exhilarating conclusion. A gorgeous rendition from the Replug bosses which caps off a hugely successful label debut from DJ Zombi.

The latest release on Clubsonica Records welcomes Julian Nates to the label for his debut EP. As one of Argentina's most promising talents, the Cordoba resident lays claim to releases on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Antrim's Or Two Strangers and Soundteller Records, while also earning the praise from progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J. Now embarking on the biggest release of his career, Julian lands on Clubsonica with 'Wild Side' alongside remixes from Analog Jungs and Fabri Lopez.

Emotion and groove have always been at a premium in Julian's productions, and the title selection 'Wild Side' exemplifies that perfectly. On a bed of rippling bass tones comes buzzing electronics, growling stabs and perfectly manicured shakers. As momentum builds a tranquil arp advances the narrative into hypnotic territory, before effortlessly segueing into a musical interlude which seals its dance floor appeal. The companion piece 'Exchanging Souls' continues the smooth and seductive ethos of the EP with rolling grooves, lively rhythms and glowing atmospheres. Mysterious and mystical from the outset, the piece flows through bouncy arps and buoyant tones, before haunting overlays and wispy effects entice the final act with emotive moments.

The first interpretation of 'Wild Side' is provided by Analog Jungs who make their label debut. 2019 proved to be a breakout year for the Cordoba duo, landing releases on Nick Warren's two prestigious imprints The Soundgarden and Hope Recordings. Also, a favourite of world class DJs John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo, Analog Jungs now follow their well received 'Liria' EP with a stunning interpretation of 'Wild Side'. Full and driving, the groove commands a large presence as percussive flurries and arpeggiated fragments adorn the framework. Evolving with a veteran's savvy, timely modulation provides waves of euphoric tension while bulbous tones and lively percussion add momentum. Haunting harmonics highlight the main break, delivering impassioned moments, before a rush of beats and drums unite for a powerful drop.

The second and final interpretation of 'Wild Side' is provided by Fabri Lopez who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the Colombian imprint in June of 2019 with a remix of Russlan Jaafreh's 'Hanguk'. In a year that saw play and support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Villa Mercedes resident now gets 2020 underway with a superb take on 'Wild Side'. Taking a cue from the original Fabri crafts a full groove and smooth rhythmic core. Nostalgic in nature, the piece flows through emotive chord changes and sparkling electronics, before shifting energy into a transcendent break. Delicate yet buzzing, the centrepiece expertly melts down into a dramatic build as rugged synths and a wave of noise spark a character filled finale. An inspired remix from Fabri which rounds out a stunning Clubsonica debut for Julian Nates, an artist who continues to operate at a creative peak.

The latest release from Clubsonica Records welcomes Dowden and Adrian Roman to the label for their debut single. The former sits as one of Canada's premiere progressive house talents, having earned the support of top international DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Guy Manztur and John OO Fleming, while finding a home on Beatfreak, Soundteller and JOOF Recordings.
The latter, hailing from Spain boasts a similarly impressive resume with releases on Asymmetric Recordings, Beatfreak and Uner's Solar Distance. Having worked together once previously on DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique, Dowden and Adrian now debut on Clubsonica with 'White Rain', alongside remixes from Dmitry Molosh and Simos Tagias.

Beginning with the original mix its clear the duo's creative synergy has only grown since their first collaborative effort. Tough beats, clattering drums and an ominous effects narrative begin the seven-minute journey. Senses heighten as astral synths and hypnotic arps unite across a foreboding backdrop. Anticipatory and tense, the main break saturates your senses with phasing noise, before a bed of sizzling electronics sparks a timely drop and thrilling finale.

The first interpretation of 'White Rain' is provided by Dmitry Molosh who makes a welcome return to the label. Having made his Clubsonica debut in 2016 with a contribution to the labels ADE Sampler, the Belarus native has since gone on to provide two additional singles while also showcasing his music on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. Now following a remix of Quivver's 'Forest Moon', Dmitry returns to Clubsonica with a powerful rendition of 'White Rain'. Backed by a chunky, house inspired groove, Dmitry has carved out a strong foundation, complemented with rhythmic pulses and percussive drive. Club friendly in design yet hypnotic in delivery, it's fragmented motifs and hopeful overlays slowly engulf the framework, eventually carrying the piece into an emotive break. As the groove strips down, harmonic phrases converge, opening up for moments of reflective warmth, before a rush of drums shifts energy into a groovy finale.

Providing the second and final interpretation of 'White Rain' is Simos Tagias returns to the label for his second appearance. As one of the most recognized names in progressive house, the Athens resident has showcased his music on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc's Replug Records. Having made his Clubsonica debut in 2018 with a well received remix of Armandhe's 'Ozadya', Simos now returns with a peak time take on 'White Rain'. Taking a cue from the original while adding a techno state of mind, the Greek artist carves out a dynamic groove adorned with astral sonics, firing drums and fresh rhythmic themes. Devilish stabs and cosmic arps continue to push momentum forward, before melting down into a cavernous break. Emotive yet tense, the one-minute interlude is a delight, with it's mind-bending modulation and methodical build ending in a trail of sonic decay and striking re-entry. It caps off a hugely successful project from Dowden and Adrian Roman, one which makes for a unique release and further solidifies Clubsonica's place amongst progressive music's elite labels.

His productions always sound fresh and airy, and have got that kinda trancey vibe going on as you'll hear whilst listening to his latest two productions 'Mirrormask' and 'Spellbinder'. Pure bliss!

Kai Castro is a fast emerging talent from Austin, Texas who first entered the scene two years ago. He takes on 'Mirrormask' and got so inspired by the song that he decided two make two totally different but equally cool interpretations. The first remix is a nice progressive dreamer whilst the 'Afterhours Dub' sounds like a timeless deep tech tune, a proper heady one.
