Every time Guy J releases his solo material on Lost & Found, the world of music lovers is ready for a treat. He's not only one of the leaders of the global scene but a musical innovator pushing the limits of studio techniques and borders of abstract emotional content. His latest conceptual masterpiece consists of two tracks ranging in length from over 7 to almost 11 minutes and a total run time of over 18 minutes. The opening track, Last Standing, blends the progressive motifs with an out-of-this-world anthemic breakdown. The piece is simultaneously melodic and nostalgic but manages to deliver a new, previously unheard edge to the technical execution of the production. The closing track, Fire, uses temperamental arpeggio resonances, constructing a mystical soundscape for a joyride into a higher state of perception. Guy’s sonic skills work as a hypnotic tool. Both huge names in the progressive house genre, Alex O’Rion & Ezequiel Arias join forces for a debut on Meanwhile as the GMJ & Matter led imprint celebrates its 34th release with “Solis”. Two further solo tracks from Alex O’Rion complete the musical picture.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

The headline track is thus a powerful reminder of the combined talent of the Dutch and Argentinean pairing as “Solis” powers forward with chest-thumping kick and sublime bassline groove. Clave percussive flourishes add a summery vibe to proceedings as a filtered synth line gradually comes to the fore, mirroring the bassline foundation. Gently evolving across the 6-minute piece, a free-flowing synth line wends its way across the melodic collage while a beatless breakdown creates the perfect opportunity for a variation in the cadenced chord progression. Hitting its stride once more in the second half, “Solis” is a timely reminder of the silky-smooth skills and unrivalled craftsmanship of the talented duo.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

The final piece finds “Sericum” proving an apposite title as a smooth-roasted bass groove sits below deep kick and cavernous sub-bass pattern. A shuffling hi-hat top line provides subtle urgency as a mellifluous synth line flows like honey as the track reaches its mid-point. A reverb-soaked lead line adds harmonic variation as a vibrant breakdown creates the perfect moment of reflection. The rhythmic melange once again hits its mark again in the second half, accompanied by the array of opulent melodic elements introduced earlier in the piece.

Premiere: Kasper Koman - Locomotif (Tantum Remix) [Lost & Found]

A Colombian of rare quality and distinction, Kamilo Sanclemente has been a force to be reckoned with via his "Beyond the Future" series. A trio of new track opens "Vol. 4". Joined by Fernanda Olaya on the powerful rhythmic force of "Empty Spaces"., a bouncing bassline is soon accompanied by a beautifully ethereal synth line. Textured pads contribute to an unhurried feel before a sparkling arp and haunting vocal enters at the mid-point. The result is a progressive house tour de force that adds more melodic layers and effects post-breakdown to dramatic effect. A darker vibe exudes from "Dissension" with its steady beat and hypnotic bass sequence. Melodic layers fill the mid-range as a filtered arp rises and falls with the bass pattern. New motifs make their presence felt at the stripped back mid-point as they shimmer and undulate into the second half rhythmic melange. The final offering sees Kamilo and Zalvador create a wonderful "Coalition". Trademark synth lines combine with a heavy beat and rolling percussive groove as filtered motifs and running melodies cascade off each other in bright sonic patterns. Converging half-way, a series of effects and white noise fills sit behind the melodic patterns as the dynamic rhythm creates an immaculate and club-friendly finale.

Danny Bonnici is a name requiring little introduction to the underground dance fraternity. A legendary figure and part of the triumvirate that made up the NuBreed act, the Australian star has gone on to achieve notable success under his own name for over a decade. Collaborations with fellow countryman, Luke Chable, have garnered much success as have releases for the likes of Open Records, Balance Music and John Digweed's Bedrock. Making his Proton Music debut, the Danny Bonnici remix of Kamilo Sanclemente & Mauro Aguirre's "Ambar" is a sparkling, haunting gem that resonates with melodic themes found in the original while a swathe of effects and new production material showcases precisely why the Australian is such a revered figure. Hitting its stride post-breakdown, a glorious new sustained bassline glides across the driving rhythmic foundation while pads and intermittent keys add depth to mesmeric interpretation.

Proton favourites, Trilucid, have mined a rich seam with a trademark sound that sees them sat regularly atop the progressive house charts. Through 2019's "Glint", 2020's "Astral" and July 2022's remarkable "The Loved Are Never Lost", The UK duo have harnessed a glorious sound that speaks volumes for their production prowess. Remixes for Pole Folder, Stas Drive and Petar Dundov have illustrated their credentials as they return to rework Kamilo Sanclemente's "Innocense", written with Giovanny Aparicio. Harnessing the rich melodic vibe, Trilucid have transformed the earworm motif of the original by encasing it within a crisp new rhythmic shell and nourishing it with a shimmering array of new counterpoint melodies that sit effortlessly alongside as though they were destined to be together. The result is a sublime club gem that waxes and wanes with dancefloor know-how, the epitome of exquisite modern progressive house.

Hitting the heights for a timely fourth time, "Beyond The Future" continues to show the way forwards.

Premiere: Ezequiel Arias, Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor - Blue Sphere - Melorama Música

Sébastien Léger is one of the most influential electronic music producers with sold-out shows, number one singles, and the respect of his peers. However, the fame doesn't stop the chart-topping musician from pushing the boundaries even further.
Léger returns with his new release on Guy J's Malta-based label Lost & Found and once again proves the hype about his artistry is real. The two-track material delivers almost eighteen minutes of pure brilliance. The conceptually consistent sound makes the opening and the closing work a piece of the seamless universe.
Nevertheless, Sébastien's double feature explores the hitherto unheard of vocal sample experimentations at the beginning of the release and lands a safe landing at the end. The release is Léger's first appearance on Lost & Found since 2019. It was worth waiting.
