As individual artists, Argentinean pair, Nicolas Leonelli and Diego R are no strangers to the dance music limelight, now joining forces for their debut release on Proton Music with "Dreaming / Continuation". From a musical family, Nico's sound has seen him become a regular DJ across his homeland with residencies in Buenos Aires. His production work since a 2019 debut for WH Records has seen a steady stream of releases light up Traful, Clubsonica Records and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. Meanwhile, fellow Buenos Aires resident, Diego R, began with DJ performances across the capital in 2016/17 before embarking on his production journey with the help and expertise of Andrea Cassino and interaxxis' Emiliano Folgar. Opening his account in mid-2020 with a debut on 3xA Music, Diego quickly went onto to see his work feature for the likes of AH Digital, Superordinate Music and The Soundgarden.

Opening their Proton Music account, "Dreaming" is characterised by a punchy kick, flowing percussive shakers and deep sub-bassline pattern. Building with ease, a smooth plucked motif wends its way across proceedings in hypnotic repetition, while a pitched down vocal phrase adds weight. Rising and falling with immaculate dancefloor knowhow, textured pads and spot effects add to the intrigue in a thoroughly modern progressive gem. "Continuation" quickly follows the same rhythmic and bassline narrative as its predecessor while a head-shaking clap brings percussive energy. Before long siren-inspired lead motif glides up and down as the mesmerising sonic collage builds with white-noise washes and eerie vocal flashes. A pounding bassline adds to the club-friendly prowess as a beatless breakdown pauses momentarily for breath before the track drops back into familiar rhythmic territory.

On remix duties, Juan Deminicis is another Argentinean needing no introduction as a long-term contributor to legion Progressive House gems on Proton Music with his distinctive soundscapes and unrivalled production techniques. Remixes for such celebrated names as GMJ, Michael A, Savvas and Luis León & Unseener have stood alongside original EPs such as "Life on the Moon", "Synchronicity", "Water" and "Cycles" across a 13-year period of endless highlights. Now remixing Nicolas Leonelli & Diego R, Juan Deminicis takes "Dreaming" in a typically luscious and smooth direction. A trademark groove of trance-inducing majesty lilts effortlessly across a near 7-minute interpretation as familiar melodic refrains from the original sit loftily across the top. Waxing and waning through its phases, the immaculate groove and rich pads create a superb textured soundscape.

Another Proton Music regular, Iran Khan has seen almost a double century of production credits grace a plethora of high-profile labels with 30 on Proton's labels, dating back to a 2017 debut on Particles. Graduating onto Proton Music in late-2018, remixes for Sebastian Sellares, Petar Dundov and dernis, the kid have been noticeable highlights with the "Organik" and "Sunsweat" EPs showcasing the UK artist's original work. Now returning once more, the Imran Khan reworking of "Dreaming" opens with a beautifully crafted atmospheric soundscape that glistens around a thumping kick and low-slung grooved percussion. A smooth bassline evolves out of the rhythm as a swathe of effects, with their roots in the Nico and Diego's work, coruscate across the left-right spectrum. Dropping the beat momentarily, the original's central melodic character makes its presence felt at the breakdown before joining with the powerful and dynamic rhythmic section through the second half.

The 4 track EP" Wrong Floor" is the Berlin-based producers first release on the danish label and it contains the two groovy tracks Almos and Bright Side. The melancholic vibe haunts the EP created by bubbling synths and lazy beats. The 2 remixes from Talul & Tony Casanova and of course Meggy, only emphasize the classic and pure German house sound.
Meggy contributes with a catchy remix of Bright Side, where the focus is directed at the vocal chops and the steady pace of the techno-beats, while the guys Talul & Tony Casanova interpret the original sound from HRRSN into a much more atmospheric and dreamy remix. We welcome the charismatic producer HRRSN with all of his originality and dedication to what we all love house-music.

Clear and stompy, that’s how Pauke Schaumburg’s “Hubble“ is starting. The elements not rushing in, a lot of time to discover that refreshing sound, which is getting a big floor anthem. The second track “Exchange“ is much more melodic from the beginning and it is sending some sunbeams through the clouds in April. At least “Violett feat Sebastian Baumert“ is really intense and trippy. A track full of pleasant sounds, with a great break and a rarely but present used vocal on it. “Runnin’ out of time“ - it is possible with this excellent release by Pauke Schaumburg.

"Hubble" will be out April 25th 2016.

Dear friends of Connaisseur,

In our scene, a decade is a long time.

When we started the label, we didn't have a master plan, we simply wanted to put out good music we loved, of which we were sure others would love it as well. The way Connaisseur subsequently grew came naturally. If you are music lovers like we are, current musical tendencies will of course always have an infuence on your sound, but basically we stayed true to ourselves and our core has always stayed the same. Yes, we love melodies, yes, we love deepness and yes, we love great emotions, but in which electronic style these are conveyed, is rather secondary. That is our leitmotif, from "Eve By Day" until today and every day to come.

For our anniversary release, we had the idea of asking for collaborations only, as we like the energy of two creative minds coming together and creating something special. Some of the chosen couples had already worked together, others had not. As a result, we now have 6 collaborations, which will be released digitally in two parts and as a selection of three tracks from the two parts on a very nice, limited vinyl.

We are very happy about the variety of styles we have received: From modern trance in the best possible manner fromOlderic and Peter Pardeike, over timeless Detroit-infuenced techno-guardian sound by the two legends Aril Brikha and Chymera, start-of-the-art melodic tech-house from our fgureheads Lehar and Musumeci, a cover-version of the 90ies alternative rock classic „Pets“ from Pornos for Pyros by our norse darlings Of Norway in collaboration with the Scandinavian pop- star Linnea Dale and the multi-instrumentalist Preben Olram, a Warp-style electronica pearl by the Wareika sidekick project Silky Raven together with Hamburg club-dj legend Solaris, to last but not least a techy guarantor by Maltese pirate The Element and Connaisseur label head Alex Flitsch.

This is part one of 10y of Connaisseur featuring Olderic & Peter Pardeike, Lehar & Musumeci and Silky Raven & Solaris.

01 Olderic & Peter Pardeike - Connaisseur (Snippet)

In September 2016, Polish superstar producer and long-time friend of Proton, Kobana unleashed his three-track, "Boyhood" EP to critical acclaim. We now return to the release with a trio of remixes from Greece, the Netherlands and USA.

A child of the 1980s, Nikko.Z has blossomed into one of the underground dance scene's most respected artists. A Greek native, Nikko's exploration into the world of electronic music saw an early DJ career underpinned by his studies at the SAE International Institute, Athens. A regular across the clubs of his home country, and abroad, Nikko's production career has seen his work allied to a plethora of highly acclaimed labels that include Movement, Lowbit and his own, successful, Dopamine imprint. Supported by the DJ elite that includes Cattaneo, Warren and Digweed, Nikko.Z's 2012 Proton debut was complemented by the standout "Sungazing" EP in June 2015. Now, returning to the label, the Nikko.Z remix of "Together" takes Kobana's original and turns it into a huge pounding, techno offering that makes intelligent use of the Pole's remix parts. Driving relentlessly forward with hypnotic precision, the vocal phrasing from the original forms part of the percussive backdrop as the key melodic riff takes an innovative new path. Full of additional production material and melodic verve, Nikko's remix is a work of ingenuity and skill.

Dutch pair, Huminal, have ridden the crest of a sonic wave over the past eighteen months. As talented as they are affable, Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen have delighted audiences with a unique brand of music that has kept them at the cutting edge of modern underground dance through rich analogue melodies and growling filtered basses. Able to call upon Hernan Cattaneo, Marc Romboy and Umek as fans of their work, the duo has seen their sound find favour with a host of impressive imprints, not least in Mango Alley, Lowbit and Visceral. Regulars on Proton Music, the 2015 "Knocking on the Sky" and 2016 "We Dwell in the Past" EPs have been remarkable highlights. Now returning for a third remix by reworking "Anna", the rippling, evolving melodies of Kobana are well suited to the Huminal sound as their distinctive remix builds elegantly, gradually revealing components of the original, surrounded by a mesmerising collection of additional production material. By the third movement a dominant rhythmic backdrop and filtered melodies erupt in joyous harmony to an epic denouement.

Mark Slee is no stranger to the world of dance music. A sought-after DJ around the clubs of his San Francisco hometown and beyond to "Burning Man" and Cape Town, the US producer has gathered a legion of admirers that have grown further through his number one ranked, "Heron Sound" show on Proton Radio. A producer of redoubtable talent, Slee's work for Looq, Cityfox and Submarine Vibes has been impressive, as has his stewardship of the rapidly rising Manjumasi imprint with co-owner, Atish. A trio of remixes for Proton Music thus far, now sees Mark Slee return for a welcome fourth as his remix of "LoHi" skilfully takes the fundamental characteristics of Kobana's track and transforms them into a deliciously lilting affair, accentuated by a laid-back groove and percussive flow. Intelligently reworking original components into a new melodic envelope, Slee's trademark freeform motifs are in full evidence post-breakdown with his "Plastic Piano Mix" an impressive addition to the package.

Three new remixes have seen Kobana's work mature from "Boyhood" to adulthood via the work of Nikko.Z, Huminal and Mark Slee.

Bristol based multi-instrumentalist and visual artist edapollo released his 2nd EP ‘Sanctuary’ on May 26th via US Label Svnset Waves. The new EP showcased the producer’s ability to concoct a potent organic meets electronic blend, while coating the productions with atmospheric arrangements. Following on from the release, edapollo and Svnset Waves are now presenting a hand picked collection of remixes from talents based around the world. The release includes a splendid remix from fellow Bristol producer Gallago, who has turned in a brooding eight minute gem.

Kicking this release off is one of India’s main DJ’s and producers; Praveen Achary. Flowers and Sea Creatures teamed up with David Granha earlier this year to bring you ‘Better Tomorrow’, a single that caused quite a stir in the underground electronic music scene and is currently the top selling Strange Town release, topping the labels’ Beatport chart.

The original release came with Jaap Ligthart and Tone Depth remixes and if that wasn’t enough the label is excited to show you the official remix single that includes reinterpretations by Praveen Achary, Futur-E and Dustin Nantais.

Praveen Achary, the Juicebox label owner takes the deep and chilled out approach with his lovely remix. It’s one of those tunes one can dance to when at a sun drenched beach party but will also bring you in a dream like state when listening to it in the comfort of your own home. Truly a quality moody piece of work here.

Greek producer Futur-E turns things up a notch with his more melodic / emo approach. Known for his releases on Tulipa, Cinematique and MNL to name a few, Futur-E is always a sure thing when it comes to delivering the goods. His remix is dance floor friendly and pumping but doesn’t loose sight of the vibe of the original. This marks his return on the label and makes us all look forward to his upcoming EP on Strange Town later this year.

Another artist that is returning on the label is fellow Canadian citizen Dustin Nantais on remix duties. Dustin has turned heads in recent years with his steady output on labels such as Manual Music, Kittball, BluFin and Wide Angle amongst others. His version is build around a highly infectious drive and when the arps are introduced you just know you’ve got yourself another winner here.

Three different interpretations make this a release that will appeal to many. There’s really something for everyone to love on here. What’s your pick of the bunch?
