The "Consensus Must" EP opened Lonya's Proton Music account in stunning fashion. The twin-track offering provided a powerful tech house window into the Israeli's musical mind as Proton now returns with remixes from Dark Soul Project and Karl Johan (via his C9 alter ego).

Ivan Jaime and his Dark Soul Project have been an influential force in the Argentinean underground dance movement. Born in the Buenos Aries capital, Jaime has always had a passion for the creative arts – from drawing and painting in early childhood, to guitar and piano later in his development. The outcome: a multi-talented individual with the ability to find a way to channel his creative expressions.

With a unique perspective in his production style, the Dark Soul Project foundations are based upon finding balance in frequency response to elicit notions of sadness or joy, "to play with feelings". Furthermore, the architecture of life's surroundings can be found in this balance and the continued search to find equilibrium. This resulting balance finds a catalogue of high-calibre music wed to some of the finest modern labels, not least in the thirty production credits for his own Baires imprint run with fellow countryman, Santiago Garcia. Hope, Mistique and Sudbeat have all played host to the Dark Soul Project Sound as Jaime now follows up a remix of Chicola in mid-2014 with a dark and twisted rerub of "Franchise". Taking the chunky bass vibe of Lonya's original, the Dark Soul Project is a clever interpretation, reworking key themes and transforming the track with smooth percussive groove and house sensibilities through well-placed lead motif. A soft vocal sample adds further depth to an impressive rework.

Karl Johan is a name long-associated with the upper echelons of the underground house scene, now moving forwards under his C9 soubriquet. A Scandinavian with an ear for melody and an intuitive sense of what works on the dance floors of Europe, Johan has seen his work allied to a host of leading imprints including a debut album in 2009 for Spiral Trax plus stand out work for Baroque, Lowbit and Mango Alley. Indeed a remix of Cid Inc.'s iconic "Cloudberries" for the latter was a landmark moment that has found its way to multiple Proton "Compiled and Mixed" releases.

His work supported by the leading lights of Hernan Cattaneo, Jamie Stevens and Jerome Isma-Ae and now returning to Proton after 2012's best-selling remix of Moonbeam's "Dark Face", Johan has begun the transformation to a new set of production values under his C9 moniker. Already seeing his work signed to DOS and Patterns in 2012, Johan has reinvented his C9 name in 2015 with a dazzling rendition of "Consensus Must". Using elements of Lonya's stab motif as a building block, the C9 remix is a shimmering, melodic affair that opens up the remix into a light and airy offering that drifts enticingly over its near ten-minute journey with cascading arpeggios and counterpoint melody, to wondrous effect.

A pair of new remixes of Lonya from Dark Soul Project and C9 have ably illustrated why "Consensus Must" continue.

Cairo-based DJ/producer Fulltone debuts on Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint with ‘Depth Over Distance’, arriving on 14th November. Known for his deft melodic touch and effortless sensibility to create diverse sonics, Fulltone’s discography includes releases with All Day I Dream, Klassified, Folder, and more, as well as a recent collaboration with Parallele. Now, his latest outing sees him channel the club environment while seamlessly blending deep textures with euphoric notes - ‘Depth Over Distance’ speaks as much to the listener as it does to the dancer.

“Lately I’ve been listening a lot to electronic music from the early 2000s. I wanted to create something that feels a bit nostalgic, but also carries some grunge. I experimented with running my synthesizers through guitar pedals to add texture and depth. Like always, it started as a jam and evolved over weeks, sometimes months, until I felt it was finally complete.” - Fulltone.

The title track, ‘Depth Over Distance,’ is a warm, organic house cut where layered arpeggiated synths meet swirling cosmic stabs and slick vocal echoes. On the flip, ‘Once A Child’, Fulltone adds his idiosyncratic flavour, as playful rhythms and driving low ends command the cut into a lush, cinematic atmosphere. Here, guided by soft, female vocals and ethereal, melodic strings, listeners journey on a dreamlike trip.
