💦Grain Rain: Rain nurtures all kinds of grains. Duckweed begins to grow, turtledoves flutter their wings, and hoopoes descend upon mulberry trees. A reminder that it is time to sow. 

In the Original Mix, Inoie and Alacrán del Amor cut through the skin of electronic music with guitar, bass, drums and untamed vocals. Seeds of dub and reggae sprout in downtempo soil, growing into the wild grass of indie rock, swaying yet unyielding in the stormy winds before the rain. While the Instrumental Revision version layers synths like a continuous spring rain, nourishing the newly sprouted roots.

The Matija & Richard Elcox Remix stays true to their signature style: textured percussion and barely detectable yet pivotal ethnic accents. It evokes a gentler rain, droplets bouncing off floating duckweed.

The VTZN Remix is a bit more gritty, with a solid kick and bassline, that sound like pouring rain hitting the muddy ground. 

The DVNIEL Remix is soft yet powerful, melancholic yet warm, carrying a poetic paradox of embracing life amidst mortality. Quietly rhythmic and soul-stirring. 

On April 20, when the sun of America evaporates into the mist of Europe, when the roots of rock wrap around the skeleton of downtempo, hope grows out of the cracks in the boundaries of nothingness. Let's wait and see what blossoms.

Brooklyn-based imprint Sounds of Khemit proudly announces its next sonic journey—Harder Still EP, a powerful four-track release from the collaborative minds of King Ben and Lazarusman, with remix support from Hauy (All Day I Dream) and Amadori (Rummel, Barcelona).

This EP is a deep and evocative conversation between poetry and rhythm, introspection and motion. It emerges from a cross-continental dialogue: Lazarusman, South Africa’s unmistakable voice of deep house and electronic poetry, meets King Ben, the Swiss producer known for his intricate and deeply textured productions.

At the core of this EP is Lazarusman, a trailblazing spoken-word artist and lyrical force whose words have become anthems for some of the most respected names in the underground scene. With collaborations spanning across global electronic music, his voice brings gravity, meaning, and an unmistakable presence to every track he graces.

King Ben brings his signature blend of melodic depth and emotive production, making this collaboration feel both organic and striking. Reflecting on the process, he shares:

“When Lazarusman and I met, we instantly felt a strong connection—not just musically, but personally as well. Initially, I had asked him to contribute as a poet on a track. But after our exchange, it quickly became clear that we wanted to go deeper and create a full EP together. With Lazarusman in South Africa and me in Switzerland, it’s yet another proof that music knows no boundaries.”
Adding their unique flavors are the remixers: Hauy, a Canadian talent affiliated with All Day I Dream, brings an atmospheric, meditative touch to "Harder Still", while Amadori, hailing from Barcelona’s vibrant underground, reimagines "Strength" with a hypnotic, cinematic edge.

Harder Still EP is a reflection of global connectivity, poetic resilience, and the power of electronic music to transcend physical and cultural divides. It is both a dancefloor statement and a meditative journey, crafted for the soul.

It is always a pleasure and a privilege to welcome a debutant collaborative pairing to Proton Music. The "Superposition" EP from two outstanding Australian artists is no exception and it is thus with great excitement that we welcome Matter and GMJ to our talented roster.

A regular in the clubs of his Melbourne hometown, self-taught musician, Matty Doyle, has built up a growing head of steam under his Matter production soubriquet since early production work for Underphunk Recordings. A producer much in-demand, his elegant production style has won Australian plaudits and fans in equal measures. Taking his audio cues from the hotbed of talent that saw Luke Chable and Kasey Taylor rise to prominence in the heyday of progressive house in the early 2000s, Matter's style and panache behind the decks and in the studio has seen a blossoming talent. Work for Balkan Connection, Stellar Fountain and Clinique has overseen an ever-expanding portfolio, as have a pair of remixes for Proton Music in the shape of Biologik's "Freon" and Dousk's iconic "Look Good Tonight".

Gavin Griffin is another Australian talent causing quite a stir over the past eighteen months after building a strong reputation under his GMJ production moniker. Initial work for Vapour Recordings in 2010 that included remixes from Dousk and Jamie Stevens thus saw GMJ in the underground dance limelight. A long-time DJ with over two decades of experience, the GMJ production sound has seen a penchant for "deep rhythms and spatial textures" transformed into a raft of successful original and remix production work for Balkan Connection, Clinique and Particles. Indeed, it is with the latter that almost a quarter century of production credits led to the successful "Edge of Remembrance" and "Forgotten Wisdom" EPs with high-profile remixes from the likes of East Café, Stephen J. Kroos and Rick Pier O'Neil.

Joining forces for the first time, Proton Music is thus proud to release the much anticipated collaboration between Matter and GMJ in the shape of the "Superposition" EP.

"Atoms" opens proceedings with a rich and sumptuous bass line that ties itself seamlessly to a dynamic percussive groove and strong beat. Elegant melodic flow oozes from every pore as textured pads and delicate riffs vie for attention as they cascade off each other. Evolving fluidly throughout, "Atoms" is a mature and exacting work.

Partner track "Space Between" continues the rich, deep production values of its predecessor as intricate, cadenced rhythms and bouncing bass groove provide a perfect vehicle for trademark sequenced melodies to emerge from the aural melange. Developing effortlessly over a near nine-minute outing and rising to an emotive zenith in the third movement, "Space Between" is a superlative piece.

As the working "Space Between" Matter and GMJ exudes production excellence, the "Superposition" EP is sure to be the nucleus of a hugely productive relationship.

Last month (april) we played our first ever fully live set at Wildwood's great event "wild people".

Huge thanks to the guys for having us as their #91 podcast!

"This week we are honoured to showcase two very good friends of ours, the extremely talented GMJ & Matter. This is the recording of their live set from our most recent event, Wild People."

GMJ (Gavin Martin) & Matter (Matty Doyle) joined forces in late 2015, inspired initially through an interview Matter penned for PHW that showed his understanding of & passion for sound & its connectedness to the bigger picture of life as a whole. A triggered recognition & magnetism for the twos shared perspectives & love for deep atmospheric music led to the formation of the GMJ & Matter collaboration.

Already drawn by a respect for each others unique sound, their meeting point soon saw them in the studio crafting the acclaimed “Superposition ep” for Proton music, which was debuted at 2016 Rainbow Serpent Festival & released afterwards to big success, supported by industry heavyweights including Hernan Cattaneo & Cid Inc. This was followed by the “Osmosis / 11 moons” EP in 2017 which further highlighted the pairs distinct & accomplished sound.

A natural synergy & seamless understanding has seen works flow ever since, including remixes for Pete K & Andre Sobota on Proton Music, the huge of success of their original track “Earthless” on the mighty Anjunadeep, remixing each others work for Particles & PHW elements, a remix for Funkform on Aussie juggernaut Open Records, & many more exciting releases soon to be unveiled.

With constant inspiration raising the heights in reflection, the future is to the stars!

Roger Martinez's Higher States imprint continues a strong start to their journey by welcoming GMJ to the label for his debut EP. Based in Melbourne, Australia GMJ aka Gavin Martin has been a primary figure in the progressive house scene for over a decade. His passion for deep and emotive electronic music has seen him land releases on the industry's most esteemed imprints. From Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music to Cid Inc’s Replug Records and UK behemoth Anjunadeep, it's GMJ's storytelling style that continues to surprise and inspire even the genre's most discerning fans. Now following an EP for US conglomerate Proton Music, GMJ debuts on Higher States with the much anticipated 'Enter Universe' artist showcase.

Spread across three tracks it's the warm, redolent grooves of the title selection which gets the release underway. The seven minute journey effortlessly melds organic percussion, arcane atmospheres and hazy harmonic concepts, for what results in a travelogue of mystical audio. Delicate yet powerful it perfectly sets the stage for the peak time flavoured 'Multiverse'. It's astral designs and percussion cadence prove instantly compelling, while a foundation of pulsating beats and electric rhythms continues to drive momentum forward. A cascading motif sits at the spiritual core of the piece, evocative and fluid, gently elevating mood with each successive pass, until elegantly peaking during a poignant final act. Rounding out the collection is the mid tempo 'Niloquai'. Highly creative, it's blend of clustered vocal fragments, spatial arps and textural drifts makes for an enticing storyboard, all playing out over waves of contoured bass and striking tonal design. Reflective in mood it caps off what is an impassioned collection of music from GMJ, one which sees him raise the bar once again and continue what has been an inspired year for the Australian producer. Highly recommended.
