Astral Records continues a strong start by welcoming Paul Angelo and Don Argento to the label for their first EP. Hailing from Cyprus, the much loved duo have been regular contributors to parent label Movement Recordings, having appeared there seven times since making their debut in 2017. Often walking the line between melodic house and techno and progressive house, Paul and Don have become fixtures in Beatport's sales charts of late with a string of impressive outings via Clubsonica Records, Timeless Moment and UV. Now making a welcome debut on Astral, the duo presents a three-track showcase entitled 'Icarus'. 

Working well with the label's ethos Paul and Don lean closer to the melodic house and techno side of their studio repertoire. The title selection 'Icarus' sets the tone with a pulsating, hypno groove and a simple yet foreboding arp. Stripped and tense in equal measure, the duo build drama across the first act with rising modulation, percussive splashes and a backdrop of prophetic pads. Opening up during the main break, a wave of atmospheric swells rises momentarily, gently teasing the senses before getting pulled back in favour of the deliberate groove and meditative structures.

An artist renowned for his attention to detail and magnificently equipped studio, Petar Dundov has been at the vanguard of the techno genre in all its guises and within the wider canon of Melodic and Progressive House. Already featuring on such esteemed imprints as SCI+TEC, Cocoon Recordings and Sudbeat Music, December 2020's "Salvation / Nature of Nature" EP was a glorious Proton debut. Now following up with another pair of original tracks, "Spark" is redolent in all the trademark features that make Dundov such a respected figure. Through heavy beat, rolling percussive groove and hypnotic bass phrase, sparkling synth motifs gently work across the 9-minute piece in unencumbered fashion. A stripped back breakdown adds further texture and effects before the shimmering melodic sequences take centre stage in the second half. "Day Unseen" provides immediate energy via a syncopated synth motif that provides further intrigue through open filters, modulation and note placement. A clicking, tom-infused percussive groove supplies innovation as a new melody makes its way to the fore and additional strings create a smooth counterpoint to the elements introduced in the first half.

A powerful force withing the house and techno genre movements, BLANCAh, continues to hit the sweet spot with an immaculate blend of melodic components fused to dynamic and powerful dancefloor rhythms. A debut on the renowned Steyoyoke in 2014 signalled the Brazilian's intent as a panoply of original music found its way on to the likes of Lost on You, Sprout and Renaissance Records. The latter bore witness to her debut full-length album in May 2020 with the outstanding "Arias of Sky". Making her Proton Music debut, the BLANCAh remix is a wonderful interpretation that intelligently makes use of Dundov's components while introducing an array of her own production material. The result is a stunning interpretation which bristles with vibrancy as analogue synth lines infused with white-noise, reverb and delay, ripple across the stereo spectrum with ease backed by a chest-thumping kick and elegant percussion.

Regularly seeing his music featured on the likes of Meanwhile, 3rd Avenue and Clinique with a variety of original and remix production material, Imran Khan has shone brightly through 2018's "Arrival" EP on Particles, while August 2019's "Organik" and November's "Sunsweat" EPs continued his story on Proton Music. Remixes for GMJ, Dmitry Molosh and Michael A for the latter, have continued to showcase a burgeoning talent as the UK star now works his magic on "Spark". Characterised by a hefty rhythmic groove and seismic bassline, growling synth lines swim across the stereo spectrum as delayed percussive hits and ticking hats supply hypnotic energy. Evolving with elegance, pads and effects are introduced as pitched variations on the original's central motifs bend and echo into the distance in intriguing fashion. The result is an innovative and dramatic interpretation with its roots firmly in Petar Dundov's "Spark".

A "Spark" of ingenuity sees Petar Dundov light up Proton Music once again aided by iridescent remixes from BLANCAh and Imran Khan.

Black Roses Seventeenth EP comes from Italian duo MAAND. The guys from Naples provided three great tracks with a very romantic and melancholic feeling but at the same time full of energy at the right spot. "Anorher Day Without You" it's a journey with atmospheric pads and deep vocals, a perfect dream scenario. In "Faithless" we have the same dream scenario and atmospheric pads but in a more energetic way enhanced by the groove and bassline. The last one "Introspective" as the title suggests is a journey to discover ourselves, the leads and pads will bring you into a meditation phase till your be released with the explosive drop in the main break.

Rafa'EL and Carsten Halm join forces for their first collaboration ever with 'Atlantis Flower'. The track embodies perfectly the vision of the two men, with a sound that transitions from progressive into the realm of melodic techno in the stripped-down dark drop. The record, produced by the seasoned producers who've released on the likes of Traum, Parquet and Mango as well as Strange Town, showcases airs of grandeur with its ethereal voices and uplifting melodies.

Delivering the first remix are Canadian duo Executive Producer which have been featured on the imprint previously with their blissful track 'Trust X Love'. The pair offer a more laid-back take on the production, with a powerful bass growling under the main arp's evolution. The first half of the song leads into a complete die down before its slow resurrection into the second part.

Finally, Strange Town's own Wolf Ear & Fassbender offer an eerie take on the composition. With its crispy industrial textures and high-speed melodies in the build, the remix is sure to make heads turn.

Atlantis Flower

Above the Balearic Sea, Madrid and Genoa are joined by a central musical thread where Nosssia and My Flower combine under "Claro de Luna". Familiar melodic themes rise across the cityscapes in the velvety night sky, supported by a cast of rolling rhythmic patterns and ticking percussion. A new musical vision emerges through the clouds as South America and Sri Lanka converge over the African continent.

Filtered synth lines materialise over clave percussive pattern as melodic themes echo in newly orchestrated shapes from Juan Sapia and Hasith. Amidst a pulsating wave of sound and white noise effects, glittering counterpoint and heavy beat create a new dark majesty before a "Tranquillity Mix" paints an ambient canvas that projects into the clear night sky. A swathe of ethereal and liquid soundscape builds into ordered chaos and simple melody.

The final destination finds a bright clear moon rising over Montreal. Tyler Mesa's stuttering bassline intent collides with melting synth lines and a new sonic array. Undulating rhythmic foundations create a fresh textured surface that hits glorious peaks and valleys along memorable aural landscape.

Tash's Movement Recordings rounds out the month of March by welcoming Reboq to the label for his debut EP. Based in the north east of Italy, Enrico Trevis aka Reboq has been involved in house and techno for over a decade. 2009 marked his production debut where he operated under a variety of monikers, earning support from world class DJs such as Roger Sanchez, until 2019 saw the birth of Reboq. With a focus on melodic house and techno, Enrico has compiled an impressive catalog under the Reboq guise, landing releases via ICONYC, Polyptych and Steyoyoke. Now adding Movement Recordings to his resume, Reboq debuts on the label with 'Tales From Mars', alongside a remix from Not Demure.

Destined to be a highlight in Reboq's discography, it is the electric stylings of the title selection which get the release underway. Rhythmically charged from the outset, its pulsating cadence, striking sweeps and devilish effects set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Placid pads and waves of percussion rise as the first act evolves, carrying momentum and mood into the main break. Astral arps rise across the centrepiece, eventually melting down to a flurry of drums for a tasteful crescendo and symphonic finale.

Returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of 'Tales From Mars' is Not Demure. Born in Argentina and now based in Spain, Not Demure first emerged in 2017 with releases courtesy of Hitclub and TOTUM Music. Gaining momentum and fans quickly, the Mar del Plata native went on to showcase his music via LAIKA Sounds, Magician On Duty and Univack. Not Demure's Movement Recordings debut came in 2020 with a contribution to the label's 'ProgNoesis' Vol. 1 collection, a release which eventually led to EP's for both Movement Recordings and Movement Limited. Now returning for his first remix, the Balearic Islands resident dials in a powerful remix of 'Tales From Mars'. Adding more of a progressive state of mind, Not Demure carves out a dynamic groove adorned with firing percussive, striking chord stabs and fresh rhythmic themes. Hypnotic arps emerge as the first movement takes shape, adding a meditative quality to its dance floor inspired framework. Coming to full fruition during the main break, a gentle sonic sizzle brings moments of calm, before symphonic synths triumphantly rise towards an exhilarating final act.

Tash Movement Recordings opens the month of April by welcoming Alfonso Muchacho back to the label for a new EP. With a career that spans a decade, the UK artist found his footing early on, showcasing his music via long standing imprints such as Bonzai Records and Beatfreak Recordings, while progressive music tastemakers such as Hernan Cattaneo quickly took a liking to his dance floor minded creations. 2019 marked Alfonso's Movement Recordings debut in the form of the well-received 'Stranger Danger' EP. A bond with the label was nurtured going forward, with the London resident returning in 2020 with a powerful remix of Forniva's 'Tinkerbell'. Now as we enter 2022's second quarter, Alfonso returns to Movement with a three-track showcase 'Walk on Water', alongside a remix from Matias Chilano.

Rounding out the release are 'Diamond Hands' and 'What Had To Be Done' which find Alfonso delivering two progressive minded stompers. The former delights with its robust design, wavy groove and clever cosmic storyboarding. Sitting as an ideal complement to its predecessor, buoyant arps, ghostly vocal phrasing and a forest of detailed percussion precedes an emotive break, one where trance-inducing arps and glowing swells take centerstage, as a timely drop ushers in a colourful, kaleidoscopic finale.
