One year on since the release of their latest EP, “Rituals”, German flagship duo Township Rebellion returns to SVT with “혼돈 과 질서” (“Chaos and Order” in Korean). Clad in some kind of sci-fi-indebted dystopian - yet no hopeless - scenario, the twofold EP summons ambiguous visions of a world caught in limbo between technologically advanced societies bound to collapse and ambitions for a brighter future through enhanced levels of empathy and understanding that long to surface.  

First is “Chaos”, a slo-blooming roller that steadily swells towards proper club epicness as its arpeggios unfold. Tapping into 80s-laced, Moroder-friendly Italo with a train-like electro-swing for the main conductor, the cut reels out like the soundtrack to a bumpy otherworldly dream where shapes, colours and sounds entangle in a cosmogonic ballet of sorts. Flip sides and here is the steely, yoking counterpart to TR’s free-flowing opener, “Order”. Flexing its metal muscles and giving maximum room to martial kicks and AI-implemented programming, the track reels out like a brooding call-to-arms, merging thunderous echoes with a truly enslaving gridlocked groove.

From his adopted home in the French capital, Pedro Caldeira is an artist able to reflect on a considerable rise to prominence in 2015 with his Pete K production moniker. As Caldeira continues to impress further still over the early months of 2016, Proton Music is proud to add another new artist to its roster as Pete K delivers his "Inner Circle" EP.

Haling from Lisbon, but now based in cosmopolitan Paris, the Portuguese producer draws inspiration from such celebrated names as Jeremy Olander, Eric Prydz and Guy J. Beginning a production career aged 17 at the turn of the decade, the Pete K musical style has been developed from a melting pot of ideas and styles with the progressive genre at its core. With the techno deep and tech house genres also playing their part, Caldeira shot to attention through a remix of Rony's "Colour of Love feat Rachele Dione" for Sorry Shoes. Supported by an elite roster including Miss Nine, Thomas Penton and David Vendetta, a growing collection of production material that included original and remix work for SQUAD and Nueva has seen growing 'A-List' support from Marcus Schossow, Alex Gaudino and Ruben de Ronde. Furthermore, it was Armin Van Buuren's playing of Pete K's remix of Sonny Zamolo's "Lion" for Nueva, at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, that skyrocketed Caldeira's career higher still.

Hitting the heights in 2015 with work for Intricate Records, Perplexity Music and an appearance on Ministry of Sound's "Trance Nation Mixed by Simon Patterson", support from Gareth Emery, Paul Oakenfold and Jaytech continues to see the Pete K name firmly in the spotlight. With the monthly "Inner Circles" show proving a success on Proton Radio in 2016, it is thus with great pleasure and no small measure of delight that Proton Music now welcome Pete K to the label with his sublime "Inner Circle" EP.

Opening track, "Lotus" is a wonderfully crafted affair that is a study in modern production techniques. A supremely programmed grooved bass line fills the lower frequency spectrum accompanied by thumping kick and cadenced hi-hat percussion, while a pulsating arpeggiated riff immediately brings dance floor energy to proceedings. Emotive key changes and white noise washes in the breakdown prepare the ground for a high-impact crescendo as a set of textured pads and counterpoint lead line provide further intrigue in third and fourth movements.

Partner track, "Utopia" is redolent in the same strong rhythmic foundations as its predecessor with immaculately programmed rhythms and pulsating pads radiating out across the left-right spectrum. Building effortlessly across its eight-minute journey, a warm bass line supplies a subtle sinister edge as a rippling motif coruscates in the upper frequencies. Building to an effervescent zenith, a raft of side-chained pads creates a dance floor vitality that is certain to find "Utopia" on the playlists of the world's elite DJs.

A career that continues to blossom with each passing release, to be welcomed into Pete K's "Inner Circle" is a privilege indeed.

Yoshitoshi’s Four Points series is about celebrating the vibrancy of different international dance cultures, bringing producers together from four “points” across the globe to create something truly special. Now in its 3rd iteration, we’re buzzing off the contributions to Four Points III. Each artist on the package brings their signature sound to the release, but we find consistency throughout in the melodic and groovy style of the music.

Representing Paris, France is Olivier Giacomotto, whose smash EP “Elle / Lui” was one of Yoshitoshi’s recent highlights. His track “Breath” picks up where the EP left off, continuing the dark and trippy journey Olivier is becoming known for. The track is full of beautiful, fine details, shifting constantly through new sonic territories that leave dancers in a state of awe with its absolute funkiness.

Next we have a collaboration representing both US coasts, with DC-based Enamour and LA-based Rinzen pulling out all the stops on “Quark.” Each of these guys has bubbled up strong over the past year and “Quark” demonstrates exactly why. The track is a case study in precision-engineered production, with grandiose synth builds and riffs that flex like muscular tissue around the track’s backbone, a wildly dynamic and punchy groove.

Representing Vigo, Spain is Aaryon, who made his Yoshitoshi debut in January with the Nos EP. “Atica” dabbles in the sort of cool, nebulous, and experimental techno that makes Aaryon’s sound so intriguing. It’s perfect for easing into the night or bringing down a crowd that’s spent the last few hours hopped up on sonic steroids.

Last but certainly not least is Corren Cavini from Tilburg, Netherlands, who won our Splice remix contest last year for his remix of PQM’s Yoshitoshi classic “The Flying Song.” Corren’s mix grabbed our attention with its slowly developing sequences and clever use of the original vocal. Corren’s remix is a stellar example of how you rework a classic.

Four countries, four impeccable tracks – this is Four Points III.

Acetylene-edged leads explode in burnt-orange fire as analogue "Loyalty" finds LADISLAØ blossoming in Mango Alley. Immaculate motifs cascade off one another in joyous harmony; metallic-tinged percussive line and driving rhythm highlights Argentinean artistry. Melodic refrains from "Kalpa" stretch out across time – glittering arpeggios rise and fall in hypnotic splendour with crystal clarity and precision engineering.

A vibrant, cultured mix of sounds flows through Anton Make in easy cross-genre appeal. "Loyalty" stirs from a dense, metronomic framework of heavyweight beats and shuffling hi-hats. Familiar melodies ripple across the deep blue waters of the Volga before talent and prolificacy combine under the auspices of Chook where "Kalpa" has a new timeless quality. A rolling groove broods menacingly against growling analogue bassline while reverberated percussion creates its own patterns across the lowlands. Memorable themes resonate in new percolating patterns that intrigue and delight.

The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Starkato back to the label for a new EP. The German artist has found a comfortable home on the Greek imprint with this being his ninth appearance. Also laying claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Beatfreak and ICONYC, the Wiesbaden resident remains an in-demand talent across the melodic techno landscape. Having most recently collaborated with Movement boss Tash on 'SQR', Starkato now makes a welcome return to the label with 'Sunspots' alongside a remix from D-Nox and K.A.L.I.L.
Spread across four tracks it's the progressive techno crossover sound of the title track which leads the EP off. Dark and punchy from the outset it's robust low end and crisp stabs make an immediate impact, while driving percussion and luminous arps fill in the framework. Smooth chord changes and poignant overlays advance the narrative into emotive territory, before becoming fully realized during the main break and fiery finale. Continuing with 'Python' Starkato follows a similar sonic ethos with a tough, arp driven slice of cosmic techno. Once again, a series of emotive swells off sets its crunchy drive and piercing effects for a perfect balance of colour and texture. The third and final original 'Kneel' follows suit with more of an esoteric narrative. It's backbone of punchy beats creates a big presence as buzzing synths and striking tonal design fully saturate your senses. Building with a veteran's savvy it's granular lines eventually open up, inviting you to a more emotive lean on the piece while an astral arp adds just the right cosmic vibe for a stellar final act.
The lone interpretation of 'Sunspots' is provided by D-Nox and K.A.L.I.L who have been occasional studio partners in recent years. Their collaborative efforts for Balance Music, Beat Boutique, Parquet Recordings and Stil Vor Talent have all been exceptional. Now landing on Movement Recordings D-Nox and K.A.L.I.L provide a stunning rendition of 'Sunspots'. Taking a cue from the original the duo maintains the tough foundation while expanding on the rhythmic narrative for what results in a sure-fire peak time bomb. Flurries of exotic drums, ghostly vocal phrases, and a deadly stab work in perfect unison, while rising atmospheres make for an unforgettable finale. A massive remix from D-Nox and K.A.L.I.L which rounds out a top notch offering from Tash's Movement Recordings once again.

The team up with Peer Kusiv on this brand-new release is genius… Peer adds his techno infused progressive sounds which match perfectly with those highly recognisable grooves we are so very used to.

Mesopotamia is full of special one shots, a deep driving bass and clever synth work that really takes centre stage throughout the breakdowns. REALPROG lovers get ready, this one is a stunner!
