OK, we don't know whether Grammy-award-winning Jazz icon Al Jarreau has actually already thought of the twelfth Cocoon Compilation when he wrote his 86' hit. But that the Cocoon Compilation L is all about love, is beyond debate: the love for electronic dance music, for its complexity and its diversity, the love for this global musical language and last not least the enthusiasm for the well-known and the still non-famous protagonists of this tonal romance that faithfully accompanies us through night and day for more than 30 years now. And that's why L begins with a proper love song: for "Equilibrio", the Berlin residents Tale Of Us have teamed up in the studio with their - currently extremely hip - boosters Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss aka Visionquest. The result is a romantic sonnet for the 21st century, and its dreamlike dabbed piano will be carrying us into some sunrise still - a perfect start for this compilation. On with the Tiefschwarz proteges Rampa & Re.You, whose club hit "Ghost" was essential in last year's Ibiza season. Also "Yeah Yeah Yeah feat. Meggy" bewitches with a unique sense for soulful vocals without baroque-like embellishment, and with its deep organ riff the dry and bass-heavy Trax House gains unimagined emotional intensity. DJ Tim Green from London, well-known for his releases on Four Twenty, Trapez and last not least for his "Lemon"-EP on Cocoon Recordings in 2011, generates in "Curious Smile" club-related but still shy Pop House from playful keyboard improvisations. This is what you - in a better world - would hear on standard-format radio. And also in the further course of the compilation the cornucopia is lavishly emptied: the Italian duo Doomwork, well-known for tracks for 100%%Pure and Tronic, is lustfully petering out in the summery space-time continuum with percussive Dub, gorgeous sound layers and slow-motion vocals; Graham Goodwin aka Sian is pumping out his subsonic rave signal "East Of Eden" to the front and will thus presents true challenges to some club PAs. Keinemusik act Adam Port, who seems not to have any stylistic anxieties, does his gusto for Boogie bass credit also with "Black Noise", while DJ globetrotter and Tronic label boss Christian Smith (currently on everyone's lips with his remixes for Carl Craig and Underworld) will make even bigger floors shake with his tropical, powerful energy. Two extraordinary percussion-driven energy infusions are then celebrated by Mark Reeve ("Planet Green") and DJ Paul Ritch from Paris, whose core statement "music never separated people" can't be emphasized enough, while the Dutch dream team Secret Cinema and Peter Horrevorts serve a surprisingly industrially-characterized Techno. The finale is initiated by the best known Israeli producer besides Guy Gerber, Guy J, whose "Genesis" finds a perfect balance between hypnotic melodies and demanding rhythms, totally in the manner of his works for John Digweed's Bedrock label. The last chord is set by Daniel Stefanik from Leipzig: his more than ten minutes long "Everything Goes Green" elevates the process of waiting for the right moment to an art form and is, with fragmented rhythms, patient enough to intonate grated chocolate instead of exuberant sweetness. There's no better way to capture the magic intensity of a terrific after hour party for ever and ever. An album to fall in love with!

Thanks in part to John Digweed’s mentorship, Pole Folder has led this Millennium's European progressive house movement. His Reworck imprint defines sophisticated house and techno with releases by Amine Edge, Oliver Schories, Petar Dundov and many more. As one may discern from its star studded roster, the label is also home to the Belgian's most innovative original work. Almost two decades of creative risks leads to January 17’s "Contes d’Automne” — or “Autumn Tales.” Titled in Pole Folder’s native tongue, "La Riviere d’Argent” evokes the smooth melos one would expect to encounter on his sonic "Silver River.”

As a rising star with an impressive 2018, Mio and His Flute found himself integral to the Particles artist roster. Now returning to the label, the German producer presents "Ping Pong in Space".

With his Particles debut, "Barbecue on the Moon" debut, Mio and His Flute created a wonderful slice of progressive heaven. Now, the title track of his sophomore effort is full of the Freiburg artist's trademark attention to detail as elegantly crafted rhythms and freeform lead riff give a distinctive flavour of far off lands. Meandering across a near ten-minute journey, the track waxes and wanes, held together by a metronomic four/four beat and a raft of panned effects and club-friendly rhythms. "Brimborium" is characterised by a wonderful plucked earworm riff repeated in hypnotic fashion while a subtle percussive groove is the perfect backdrop. Final track, "Summa Summarum" continues the penchant for strong melodic lines as an intricate riff works in syncopated fashion with robust groove and middle-eastern timbres. Pausing for breath at the mid-point with rich pad tones, the third movement creates a mesmerising and original work.

Both successful artists in their own rights with music signed to Balkan Connection, Clinique and Superordinate, the Argentinean pair of N'Pot and Nahue Juarez hit the headlines with their 2016 "Selcouth" EP for Stellar Fountain, before "Endless Summer" showcased the duo's talents on Particles in April 2018. The four-track offering shone a spotlight on the duo's collaborative work together and it a pleasure to welcome them back to the label remixing Mio and His Flute. Taking "Ping Pong Space", N'Pot and Juarez have generated a clever remix that builds upon the elements in the original, turning them into a deep, club-friendly track. Adding a swathe of additional sounds and melody N'Pot and Juarez have retained the themes of Mio's work while creating an innovative new narrative.

Argentinean, Antrim, is no stranger to success in the underground dance scene with over 400 production credits found against the Cordoba resident's name for the likes of Balkan Connection Perspectives Digital and Clubsonica. Supported by a DJ elite that includes Nick Warren, Eelke Kleijn and Hernan Cattaneo, his debut on the "Summer Particles 2014" compilation with "Metheny", went on to see a release of its own with remixes from GMJ and Simos Tagias. January 2018's "Dizziness" was a further highlight as Antrim now returns with a glorious club-friendly remix of "Brimborium". Redolent in pulsating bassline emotion, Mio and His Flute's central melody soon comes to the fore anchoring the Antrim remix to the original. Building effortlessly, a sublime a new riff appears in the third movement along with sumptuous pads and a rolling clave percussion to create a strong and mature reworking.

A trio of new tracks alongside remixes from N'Pot and Nahue Juarez and Antrim have found Mio and His Flute champion of "Ping Pong in Space".

'Antrim's Or Two Strangers imprint welcomes Sebastian Sellares to the label with 'Epiphany In The Woods'. Also known under his previous moniker Monje, Sebastian hails from one of Argentina’s most talent rich regions in Cordoba. His smooth progressive minded sound has become a favourite amongst old and new school fans of the genre, landing him releases on ICONYC, PHW Elements and Massive Harmony Records. Now fresh off an EP for AMITABHA to begin the year, Sebastian debuts on Or Two Strangers alongside remixes from Simply City and Golan Zocher.

The first interpretation of ‘Epiphany In The Woods'’ is provided by Simply City who is making his label debut. Hailing from Chile but now based in Montreal, Cesar Romero aka Simply City has become a fixture in the city’s burgeoning nightlife, earning a spot as one of Stereo’s resident DJs. On the production front he lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings.

Now making his first appearance on Or Two Strangers he delivers a superb take on 'Epiphany In The Woods'. Incredibly rhythmic with fresh design qualities and soft, creamy melodies, it moves elegantly across it's ten minute running time. Immediately captivating as an array of shifty atmospherics and tranquil melodies create a redolent air. Warm, dreamy overlays soon follow and you’re effortlessly taken away into a melodic wonderland. Subtle yet powerful, it’s blissful theme plays off smooth chord changes and subtle modulation for a string of magic moments, making for an exhilarating third act finale.'

'Higher States enters the summer season by welcoming Navar to the label for his debut EP. Through releasing material on Guy J’s Lost & Found Records, the Dutch artist emerged in 2014, firmly establishing himself in the world of deep melodic house. Subsequent releases for Cid Inc’s Replug Records, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Belgian Events brand EDGE, further solidified Navar’s place amongst the genre’s elite.  Now following a remix of Eric Lune’s ‘Benji’ to begin the year, Navar presents his first original project of 2020 via Roger Martinez’s Higher States.

Spread across four tracks, Navar explores a broad spectrum of organic sensibilities on ‘High Noon’, beginning with the free-flowing tranquillity of ‘Moon At The Window’. A bed of broken beats and exotic drums sets the stage for hypno grooves and pixie-like melodies. Transcendent and glowing in equal measure, it’s fuzzed out stabs, incandescent harmonies and unpredictability showcases an artist operating at his creative peak. ‘Desert Storm’ follows suit with a similarly charming quality. Subtle shades and fragmented tones coverage as the narrative evolves, creating a contemplative yet emotive drawl which is sure to resonate on multiple levels. 

Beginning the EP’s second wave are the dulcet beats of ‘Arctic Vibez’. Spacious and smooth, it’s a piece built around warm bass tones and luminous cascades. Spiralling overlays strike at opportune moments, blanketing the robust framework onwards to a meditative finale. Rounding out the release is the title selection ‘High Noon’ which finds Navar flexing the peak time prowess of his studio repertoire. Sitting comfortably between the playful and emotive, it’s dusty percussion and bouncy arps bring texture and drive to a brilliant rhythmic theme. Tranquil tones and smooth chord changes marry for an elegant apex, ultimately putting a stamp on this sensational release. Sure to be an important piece in Navar’s discography, it’s a collection of music which further solidifies his place amongst the progressive house elite, while continuing to forge new sonic blueprints for the future.'
