This one is one of the best remix of the EP!

An artist with an impeccable production record, Saultloom returns to Proton Music with his "Aurora" EP. With releases on the likes of Hoomidaas, Manjumasi and Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas, the Russian artist made an impressive Proton debut remixing Michael A's "Centaur" in late 2017 as a twin-track original EP is joined by a trio of remixes form a quintet of global artists. The "Aurora" title track is thus a beautifully crafted piece that floats across an 8-minute timeframe, anchored by heavy kick and whip-cracking snare. A glorious array of meandering pads provide texture in abundance as delicate arps and reverb-drenched piano motifs supply a subtle melancholy that is revealed fully at the breakdown and into a magical second half. "Ethereal" continues Saultloom's penchant for haunting piano melodies as emotive phrases wander across the 8-minute piece. Building underneath a rolling percussive groove, a syncopated motif adds dancefloor character while a clarinet sequence creates another wonderful melodic layer before vocals and harmonious textures combine in the third movement.

German and South African pairing, LADS, have become a firm favourite with the Proton faithful through their "Miss Jean", "Hagel" and "Stoyote" EPs, plus remixes for Dmitry Molosh, Imran Khan and James Warren. Returning after seeing a quartet of "Stoyote" remixes across both Particles and Proton Music, the LADS remix of "Ethereal" is a typically innovative offering that transforms the original by taking a key melodic element and reworking it in entirely new directions. The result is an immaculate interpretation that sees a club-friendly backdrop combine with familiar motifs, haunting vocal textures and additional production material to create a dynamic and spine-tingling dancefloor gem.

Chris Domingo and Eric Lune are a nascent artistic pairing. Both successful artists in their own rights, Domingo has been a regular contributor to Particles with his "Azimuth" and "Lose Control" EPs with former production partner, Mariner, while Lune has impressed with his work on Proton, not least through his "North to South" EP with Golan Zocher and solo "Airbag" EP. Combining for the first time on Proton Music, the Domingo + Eric Lune remix is a powerful groover that dominates with elegantly cadenced hi-hats and bassline sequence. Intelligently reimagining elements from Saultloom's original, familiar themes resonate across the 7-minute piece while a swathe of production material and synth work creates an entirely new framework from which "Ethereal" bounds and recoils within its new rhythmic structure.

London based, Erol Arda, can boast an impressive production portfolio since 2018's debut for Kindisch. Going on to feature for the likes of Dream Culture, Variety Music and Cervidae Recordings, the English artist opens his Proton Music account with a rich and evocative reworking of "Aurora". Using Saultloom's components to effortless effect, a pronounced kick propels the track forward before the central motif is given a different focus across a newly cadenced backdrop. Intelligent and sensitively placed additional production material add to the atmosphere in a delightful debut.

Shining brightly a new "Aurora" forms over Saultloom intensified with remixes from LADS, Domingo +, Eric Lune and Erol Arda.

The Merin EP returns… Renaissance’ eponymous VA series makes its third, and final, showing of 2021 with arguably its strongest line-up yet. As ever, it’s a four track EP that seeks to showcase the most exciting talent on the planet, spread across different genres; variety is very much a key ingredient to the latest edition.

Representing team indie is another young producer from the hotbed that is Israel, Millero. Although he only has a few releases to his name he already counts the likes of Solomun, Âme, Lehar and Hernan Cattaneo amongst his supporters, and has a Beatport Top 10 under his belt. It’s been a stellar start to what promises to be a stellar career. “'French On Acid' is a track with psychedelic acid vibes. It starts with the insane vocals that get you into the mood and then, the acid lead kicks-in. When combined together they hopefully take you to another planet!” - Millero

Electronica and breaks have always been a part of Renaissance musical DNA, so it’s only fitting that two of the scene’s brightest luminaries represent the genre on the EP. Step forward Just Her & Nolan, whose ‘Blue Sky’ is as atmospheric and infectious as it gets, rich with that magic, yet elusive, hairs-on-the-back-of-neck ingredient. “As a track ‘Blue Sky’ didn’t come together all at once,” they admit, “it took a few bites at the studio apple before it ended up at a place we were happy with. Funnily enough, we didn’t add any further production during these sessions, rather re-arrange and strip back. It’s a great example of less becoming more.”

Next is a man who needs little introduction, Jim Rivers. With a CV that includes Global Underground, Bedrock and Intec, he’s a man whose dance roots run deep. His contribution to Merin may surprise many as he sheds his trademark, techno inspired sound in favour of a house-tinged dive. “When I called Renaissance I actually said, ‘I’m not sure this is quite right for you, it’s a deep, chunky 118 BPM thing,’ so I was delighted when they came straight back and said they had just the project to include it on. The riff is warm and simple but it’s got that uplifting vibe with some texture and soul in the synths and arrangement". - Jim Rivers

The quartet is ably completed by a rousing finale courtesy of Russia’s blaktone and ‘ExMachine’, which is a power house slice of melodic techno. Infused with their trademark, futuristic style, the duo describe the track as, “Our musical imagining of a robot suddenly becoming human. For us it’s a very emotional record that combines a tough dance groove with melodic touches.” If this doesn’t have peak time written all over it, what does?!?

and future with 20 artists across 20 tracks, for the 20th Anniversary celebration of the beating heart of EC1.

1999: the beginning of the story. 1,000 weekends and 3,000 events, together with a seminal CD series that wrapped up last year with closing instalments from fabric residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis with club founder Keith Reilly, alongside London underground innovators Burial & Kode9 for FABRICLIVE. 

This special 20th Anniversary release reflects the history of the club from the very beginning to the current crop of residents. Here you’ll find artists who helped shape the sound of the club, grew up in the club, have been inspired by the club and have become part of the fabric family. 

FABRICLIVE represents the finest in dubstep, drum & bass, jungle, breaks and experimental beats. Houndstooth’s Special Request leads the charge in trademark style, opening the floor to Friday night luminaries Source Direct and J Majik. Shackleton and Pinch & Trim started playing the club during the birth of the UK dubstep scene and give a taste of the hugely disparate evolution of bass music. Daniel Avery and B.Traits show off their dancefloor versatility, while Rupture co-founder Mantra plants a flag for London’s
vibrant musical future. Closing are two of the club's longest associates Groove Armada and original FABRICLIVE resident James Lavelle as UNKLE.

fabric has been responsible for nurturing the underground London house and techno scene, inspiring and revolutionising the clubbing landscape by confidently proving that you don’t have to book commercial acts to be a success. The breadth of talent here displays the far reaching arms of the night - with an opening spread of melodic techno from Nina Kraviz, the shuddering electro of Steffi, and evolving experimental house of Margaret Dygas. New resident IMOGEN veers things in a darker direction towards Cassy’s pumping house and Marcel Dettmann’s classic late-night techno. Anastasia Kristensen drives ahead while Houndstooth’s Call Super takes things down a deeper notch with a track reminiscent of many a classic night
in room 3, and Maya Jane Coles steps up with a playful slice of house. British dance music pioneer Sasha closes out on a euphoric high with layers of building vocal and melody.
